David Wottle won the 800m after being last for the first 600m and won by 0.03s. Aussie Shane Gould won 3 golds, a silver and a bronze at the age of 15. handball and archery made returns to the games after a long time absent, while slalom canoeing made its first appearance. the Olympic oath began at these games.
