NHL postseason is set

The postseason match ups are set. They are: Washington vs Florida, Tampa Bay vs Toronto, Boston vs Carolina, Pittsburgh vs New York Rangers, Nashville vs Colorado, St. Louis vs Minnesota, Dallas vs Calgary and Los Angeles vs Edmonton. Playoffs begin Monday.

First no hitter goes to...

....the New York Mets. Five pitchers combined for this no hitter.  Tyler Megill, Drew Smith, Joely Rodriguez, Seth Lugo and Edwin Diaz threw 149 pitches, walked 12 and struck out 6 in the no hitter.  Awesome.

Some Japanese baseball for ya

There's a Japanese pitcher by the name of Roki Sasaki who: threw a perfect game on April 10th, and threw 8 innings of perfect baseball before getting pulled after throwing 102 pitches (that happened not long ago in MLB. Why would anyone do that is beyond me) a week later That is 51 consecutive batters retired. Yesterday, the first pitch vs the Orix Buffalos, he gives up a hit. Oh yeah, in those 51 straight batters Sasaki retired, 33 of them were strikeouts. Wow. Remarkable pitching performance.

3000 for Miggy

In the first game of a doubleheader, Miguel Cabrera went two for four, the first being hit #3000 in his career. That makes him the 33rd player to reach that milestone and the 7th to have 3000 hits and 500 home runs. The other six are: Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Eddie Murray, Rafael Palmeiro, Albert Pujols and Alex Rodriguez. Some elite company. Congrats to Miguel Cabrera.

Chefs de Mission for upcoming commonwealth games

Swimmer Clare Carver-Dias and sprinter Sam Effah were named co chef's de mission for the upcoming 2022 Commonwealth games held in Birmingham England. Announced this afternoon. Great. The games will be held from July 28 to August 8.

Some hockey stuff.

So, the 2022 World juniors that were cancelled over tbe holidays are scheduled for August 9-20 with Edmonton as sole host. Also, Red Deer is hosting the Hlinka Gretzky cup from July 31-August 6. That us a fun tournament to watch in person. The women's worlds are August 26 to September 4 in Denmark and the mens worlds are May 13-29 in Tempere and Helsinki Finland. So some summer hockey to look forward to.

A good easter weekend

Twas a good Easter weekend. Friday was busy with painting a couple of walls and varnishing the floor in the recently vacated rooom, then had dinner with the family. Fun playing with the nieces. Saturday and Sunday i worked. Yesterday i spent part of the day outside, it was such a nice day. Now its crappy and snowy out. Started snowing within the last couple of hours. Figures for April on the prairies. Mother nature is drunk and needs to go home.

A busy good Friday

Was a busy good Friday. Painted a couple of walls in a vacated bedroom, and varnished the floor plus ended up cleaning up some water. Bedroom is done and water is gone. Had my shower and just chilling before going for Easter dinner. Which is good because im getting hungry. I hope you have a good Easter weekend.

Official update

I mentioned this a while ago. Its now official. Canada has a 4×100m silver after Great Britain was disqualified due to one of their runners was caught doping. That puts Canada with 7g, 7s and 10 bronze for 24 total.  Andre DeGrasse ends up with a medal of every color. With the silver in the relay, he has a gold in the 200m and bronze in the 100m. He now has 1g, 3s and 2b for 6 career Olympic medals.

Fun times.

Fun times in SE Saskatchewan and southern Manitoba - if you like snow. They're in a midst of an ugly snowstorm that is supposed to leave upwards of 50cm or 20 inches of snow by the time it ends. Prince Albert isn't anywhere near the storm. Light snow at worst. My sister is supposed to be coming up to visit tomorrow. Depending on how much falls in Regina and how the roads are, the visit may or may not happen.  Yuck i hate winter.

Three more qualified for 2023

Sweden, Spain and France have qualified for the 2023 women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.  That is now 10 teams into the World Cup that expanded from 24 to 32 for this edition.

2026 Commonwealth Games hosts are...

..... Melbourne Australia.  They were chosen as main host of the 2026 Commonwealth Games. Victoria was the region chosen to host. Melbourne has the opening ceremony. Geelong, Bendigo, Ballarat and Gippsland are also part of the games.  Games are expected to start March of 2026.

Sweden world men's curling champions

Sweden's Nik Edin is world men's curling champions with an 8-6 win over Brad Gushue and his foursome. It's Edin's fourth championship in a row and sixth overall.  Quite a run for Gushues team. An Olympic bronze, a world championship win and two silvers. All since 2017. I'm sure that is it for another curling season.

World men's curling championship

Wow Italy has been a nice surprise. They had won gold at the mixed doubles tournament at the winter Olympics, and today they beat the US 13-4 to claim their first bronze, and first ever medal at the men's worlds. Any the next winter Olympics are in Italy in 2026. What a story here.

1951-52 NHL season

The 1951-52 NHL season had 6 teams and a 70 game schedule. Alex Delvecchio makes his debut with the Detroit Red Wings. Terry Sawchuk wins 44 games for the Red Wings. Elmer Lach records point 550, claiming a points record that will eventually be obliterated.  March 23, Bill Mosienko of the Chicago Blackhawks scores three goals in 21 seconds. I think that record still stands. November 24, 1951, Chicago trainer Mud Roberts fills in for an injured Harry Lumley in a Chicago 6-2 win over Detroit. Roberts hadn't played in 15 years. March 27, Turk Broda plays in playoff game #100, the first goalie to do so. Playoffs had; SF: Detroit 4 Toronto 0, Montreal 4 Boston 3. Stanley Cup finals: Detroit 4 Montreal 0. April 15 as Detroit wins Cup, Pete and Jerry Cusarano throws an octopus onto the ice at the Olympia in Detroit. With Detroit winning all 8 playoff games and needing 8 wins for the Cup, the Detroit tradition began. Next up is the 1952-53 season.

Today is the day

It's here. It's finally here. Opening day in baseball. A week late but it's here.  First game has Milwaukee at Chicago. Hopefully a good season coming.

It used to be nice out.

Was nice out - two days ago. Today we're getting a mix of snow and rain. 😒. It's +2c out. Figures for spring on the prairies.

Kansas Jayhawks champions

The Kansas Jayhawks are NCAA champions after coming back from a 40-25 deficit at half time to win 72-69. Even survived a late out of bounds gaffe. I think it's their 4th championship. That's another March madness done. Until next year.

Turned out to be a nice day

Was lightly snowing heading to work this morning. Enough to barely cover the bare spots. Just came home and the sun was out and the snow that's still here was melting. Wasn't going to shovel when it was going to melt anyways.  +2c at the moy.  Felt warmer though.  Go away snow, go away.

NCAA semi final two

North Carolina has beaten Duke 81-77 and will face Kansas for the NCAA championship Monday night in New Orleans. Should be a good game. Not sure what time the game is yet.

NCAA semi final one

The Kansas Jayhawks are into the championship game after beating Villanova 81-65.  They will face the winner of the Duke vs North Carolina game. That game is coming up shortly.

A late hello April.

Well hello April. How are you? I see you gave me the 2022 world Cup draw, and I see Canada is in group F. What else do you have? What? Baseball season starting on the 7th? Great. Hockey going down the stretch for the finish? Awesome. What else?  Oh yes Easter coming. I'm munching on some treats. What else? Ahhh yes some Nascar racing.  You better have the snow gone. Much appreciated there.  Is that all you have? Oh okay. Time to find out how nice you are.

World Cup draw

World Cup draw has just finished.  Canada will be in group F with Belgium, Morocco and Croatia. Interesting group to be in. The United States is in group B with England, Iran and the European playoff (Scotland, Ukraine or Wales). Mexico is in group C with Argentina, Saudi Arabia and Poland. It all starts November 21.
