1900 summer olympics

the 1900 Olympic games were held in Paris, France. these games had women compete for the first time and Helene de Pourtales was the first womens champion in the 1-2 ton sailing event. Charlotte Cooper was the first individual champion in tennis. Pierre de Coubertin was president of the IOC. the games were from May 14-October 28 and were held during the 1900 Exposition Universelle. odd way to promote the Olympics. de Coubertin admitted to friends that "it was a miracle that the \Olympic movement survived that celebration." some unusual events were held such as motorcycle racing, ballooning, 200m swimming obstacle race and underwater swimming, croquet and cricket. Canada participated at the games for the first time and won two medals - a gold and a silver, both by George Orton - in the 2500m steeplechase and 400m hurdles. tomorrow - the 1908 games in London. below is the poster for these games.
