battle of alberta on new years eve game just ended. calgary 6 edmonton 5. final game of 2005. see you in 2006
world jr tournament canada just beat the u.s. 3-2. canada gets first place in pool a and gets an automatic bye to the semi finals. a great game to watch as well. us will be in one of the two quarter final games. who they will face will be decided tonight.
new years eve that time already. got canada vs u.s. in the world jr hockey tournament. college bowl games this afternoon. and nhl hockey tonight. laundry too. 30 years tonight was the infamous new years eve game between the montreal canadiens and central red army (soviet hockey team, and they were good from what i hear). montreal outshot them 39-13, but the game finished tied at 3. i saw the game on new years eve 1994. boy was that ever a great game. danny gallivan calling the game. so a productive night tonight.
canada vs norway canada beat norway 4-0 tonight. they outshot norway 50-13. almost one sided. 32 penalties called tonite. personally, the officiating is killing the flow of the game, and other games of this tournament. anyways, canada plays the u.s. on new years eve. gonna be a dandy.
canada vs switzerland canada just beat switzerland 4-3. the swiss played pretty damn good. the officiating stunk. thats probably made watching game more frustrating. 21 penalties in the game. missed calls that should have been, and calls that should have been weren't. canada still wins and they play norway tomorrow. the us play finland in an hour and change.
insight bowl caught the last 8 minutes of this one. arizona state sun devils beat the rutgers knights 45-40. from what i heard, over 1200 combined yards for both teams (rushing and passing). this was the first college bowl game i watched. there maybe room for one or two more. the big one being the rose bowl between usc and texas. both teams 12 and 0 records. should be a dandy.
final monday night game on abc yep, its an end of an era. the new england patriots beat the n.y. jets 31-21 at the meadowlands. abc will do the playoffs - including the super bowl. then next season, espn will take over. seeing some of the highlights from the first game from sept 21 1970 at memorial stadium in cleveland. i think the browns beat the jets that night. 36 years of memories.
boxing day and world jr. hockey survived another boxing day. it was probably nuts in all the malls. which is why im glad i dont shop after work. somehow i dont care for crowds that well. the world jr. hockey championships started tonight. canada just beat finland 5-1. canada plays again on wednesday against switzerland. the tournament is in vancouver.
christmas eve some day today. figured it would get busy today. wasnt busy that much. in the food court you could still see a fair bit of empty tables when i left at four. got home, had a bath, then tallied up all the nfl games from today. im watching the first episodes of season 3 of the dukes of hazzard. got seasons 3, 4, and 5 plus the 1976 canada cup in the mail on thursday. oh yeah, i can smell the dinner too. roast, mashed potatos, corn and other veggies, and gravy. mmmmm, my mouth is drooling. later.
friday night doubleheader 14 games tonight. rare friday night hockey night in canada double header with the christmas break tomorrowand sunday. toronto beat boston in the first game 2-1. calgary @ vancouver just started. a nice two day break - a much needed one. theres always football. so thats what is happening tonight.

the torino 2006 poster title of this entry says it all. i found it on www.aldaver.com . this site has all the posters, logos and mascots of the olympics and major soccer tournaments. 51 days to the beginning of the winter games. they run from feb 10-26, 2006. cant wait.
monday night football this one was a blowout right from the getgo. baltimore beat green bay 48-3. baltimore played well, while green bay didnt play with any intensity. this MAY have been brett favre's last prime time game. whether he returns or not for next season is up to him. the last ever m.n.f. game on abc is next week where the patriots visit the meadowlands to play the jets. there will be some playoff games on abc, including the super bowl. the first ever m.n.f. game was in 1970 in cleveland. i like watching clips of some of the games between 1970 and now. more next week.
sunday night football this was quite the game here. the bears beat the falcons 16-3. the bears defense continously frustrated michael vick and the atlanta falcons. i didnt get the numbers, but i can imagine the atlanta totals are pretty low. that says something to the bears defense. m.n.f tomorrow. green bay at baltimore. next weekend - the christmas weekend. so lots of games christmas eve. then the final weekend of the season on the new years weekend. then playoff time.
christmas memory walking by a yard with a bunch of trees in the back yard made me think of this one. way back in 1994 when darren, jennifer and i went to jennifer's parents farm near onoway, cutting down a tree for christmas. just the whole trip there made it fun. lots of snow. my feet froze a bit. mind you i wore shoes, not thinking i couldve wore boots. a fun day. cant remember whether we had lunch or dinner there. anyways a fun memory
saturday night excitement gotta love saturday nights. ya got hockey galore tonight. toronto and ottawa are in the first intermission with the score tied at one. the oilers and canucks are the second game of the h.n.i.c. double header. two of 12 games tevevised on cbc tonite. that and laundry on top of that, which makes for a productive night. cant go wrong there. update: ottawa 8 toronto 2. game 2 of the double header. five minutes in, vancouver 1 edmonton 0. update 2: edmonton 5 vancouver 4 in overtime. fun game here. quick paced game. edmonton was down 4-2 and came back to win it.
slow evening not much to do tonight. spent my evening watching some of season 2 of the dukes of hazzard. now im listening to christmas music. i havent seen the dukes movie and im not so sure i want to see it. ive seen the trailer to it and somehow it didnt get me excited. and reading some comments from people they didnt care too much for it. i'll stick with the t.v series for now. b.t.w. ive already got seasons 3, 4, and 5 ordered. that's all for now, and im gone
survivor guatamala danni boatwright has just won survivor guatamala. she won the million bucks and a 2006 pontiac. she played awesome. she did what she had to do to win it. had her all the way. she's happy, and im happy for her. congrats to danni

flames jersey heres me in one of the flames jerseys. the road white. the home red ones are HUGELY popular. they're playing now on hockey night in canada. trailing 1-0 to ottawa. update: calgary 2 ottawa 1. final in overtime. WOOOOOHOOOOO!
sombre 25th anniversary december 8 1980. 25 years ago tonite was the assassination of john lennon. the music world lost a good one. ive heard a few songs he sang (so this is christmas comes to mind, and ive taped that one). although ive never heard all of them, he was damn good. im sure other people followed his career more (i was 6 when he got shot). feel free to leave a comment. that way i can get a better understanding of john lennon
survivor guatamala survivor guatamala is nearing the end. the second to last episode is tonite at 9 with the 3 hour episode on sunday (2 hour episode plus the one hour reunion). cant wait. who will earn the title "survivor guatamala." stay tuned.
monday night football seattle blew out philadelphia badly 42-0. the seattle defense scored 21 points off of two interceptions and a fumble recovery. plus the snow was flying in philly. quite the one-sided game. which john madden asked "is seattle playing that good or is philly playing that bad?" next m.n.f. game is next week in atlanta.
winters arrival its arrived. finally. got the snow. got the chilly weather. i like it. nice enough to take a walk, providing you can tolerate -15c weather. just need some more snow. barely got enough to cover the ground. some places has grass showing. oh well. im loving the crunching sound when walking on the snow or the sound the tires make on the snow.
happy december man, december already. okay what happened in november? eskimos win grey cup. tony stewart won the nascar championship. he handled this championship better than the one he won in 2002. that year, he let his temper get the better of him. this year he handled himself better and had a more positive attitude. him and greg zippadeli (tonys crew chief) are quite the team. hopefully they win more championships. hockey kicked it up a notch. whats up for december? more hockey and the nfl playoff run. and the world junior hockey championships late in the month. anyways, thats it for now.

ya know its christmas when..... ...my room gets lit up. heres my room all lit up. im happy with it. and colorful too. cheers
edmonton eskimos 2005 grey cup champions GREY CUP IS COMING HOME!!!!! WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!!!!!! quite the thrilling game that went into overtime. first overtime both teams score a touchdown. 2nd overtime edmonton gets a field goal, then held montreal to nothing. the final score - edmonton 38 montreal 35. ricky ray was named mvp. this was the first overtime game since 1961 with winnipeg beating hamilton 21-14. this is edmonton's 13th grey cup. the other twelve: 1954, '55, '56, '75, '78, '79, '80, 81, '82, '87, '93, and 2003. congrats to the eskimos.
93rd grey cup on sunday the grey cup is less than 48 hours away. it will be the edmonton eskimos and the montreal alouettes. kickoff is sunday just after 4 pm here. the game is in vancouver bc. i smell a grey cup party somewhere.
the heritage classic got the heritage classic on now. the first ever nhl outdoor game that montreal won 4-3 over edmonton. the alumni game had edmonton beat montreal 2-0. geez two years ago today. this is also the anniversary of the nhl forming. yep 88 years ago today. the answer to the quiz question from an earlier entry - the toronto maple leafs was the other team that was at the start of the nhl that is still around today. they were originally called the arenas, then the st. patricks. then a guy by the name of conn smythe bought the team. decided to change the team name and the colors. out was the team name (the st.patricks) and the colors (green and white). in was the more "patriotic" name. the maple leafs. in was the new colors. the blue and white. quiz question. what season did toronto start as the maple leafs?
tony stewart 2005 champion he won it. greg biffle won the race. tony stewart wins the big trophy. he finished 15th. jimmie johnson crashed and finished 40th. carl edwards finished 4th and led the most laps. tony wins by 35 pt over biffle and edwards. mark martin finsihed 4th, 105 pts back and jimmie johnson ended up 5th, 127 pts. back. congratulations to tony stewart. time to celebrate.
owner of the heritage classic i am now the owner of the heritage classic outdoor game between edmonton and montreal. at least the dvd anyways. the first outdoor nhl game between edmonton and montreal on november 22 2003. the oldtimer game was played that afternoon. played at commonwealth stadium in perfect -20c weather. im still hearing the puck hitting the stick, the skates on the ice and seeing the breath from the players and the fans. just like playing street hockey in that kind of weather. i think i will watch it on tuesday - the two year anniversary of that game. november 22 was signifigant in two ways. 1. game was on a saturday (first game of a cbc doubleheader). 2. that was the date on which the nhl was formed way back in 1917. and montreal is one of two teams who was part of the beginning of the nhl that is still playing today. quiz question. who was the other? answer at a later date.
checker auto parts 500 kyle busch held off greg biffle and wins in phoenix. biffle led the most laps in this one. tony stewart finished 4th, carl edwards finished 6th and jimmie johnson 7th. tony stewart leads jimmie johnson by 52 points. carl edwards is third, 87 back and greg biffle is 102 back in fourth. these four has a shot to win it in homestead next week. who will win the 2005 points championship? stay tuned.
great game in montreal quite an exciting game between toronto and montreal. toronto won 5-4 in overtime. both teams had excellent chances to score and there were stretches where they went end to end with no whistles. fun game. now im watching colorado at calgary in the second half of the cbc hockey night in canada double header. update: final score in calgary. flames 5 avalanche 3. a wierd one here. calgary scored four in the first. colorado scored three in the second and calgary scored their 5th one in the third. and all eight goals were scored on one side of the ice.

the beijing 2008 mascots the mascots have arrived. the mascots are named beibei, jingjing, huanhuan, yingying, and nini. heres the cool part (and its on the beijing 2008 website). take the first syllable in each name and you get the phrase "beijing huan ying ni" (i hope i got that right) which means welcome to beijing. cool.
must be christmas time i must be feeling the christmas spirit. went to kingsway mall to pick up a flames jersey (there were flames jerseys in small sizes so i struck out there), undies and a calendar, which i got. i go to sears to look around, not paying attention to the music until i went upstairs. thats when i heard christmas music. im thinking good grief. im not ready for the music yet, although im in the christmas spirit. somehow theres an irony in that story. i even heard it in the bay too, so there ya have it. in the christmas spirit, but not ready for the music. maybe after the grey cup. but not now.
sunshine and snowflakes heres something that darren sent to me and im about to share it. its a christmas album done in 1973 called suneshine and snowflakes. just click to sunshine and snowflakes . great listening i think.
i must be insane - or not i may be going insane. then again i dont think so. this goes back to the 2004 stanley cup playoffs. i cheered for the calgary flames. now that there is hockey again, im cheering for the flames al well as the oilers. the oilers lost to dallas 4-0 while the flames beat vancouver 4-3. its all cool. ive gone flames fan for sure.
dickies 500 wow! carl edwards did it again. gambled on a two tire stop late in the race, came out 6th and ended up catching mark martin and won tonite. mark martin came second and matt kenseth was third. those three had great cars. tony stewart finished 6th and jimmie johnson finished 5th. johnson gained 5 pts. tony now leads by 38 pts over jimmie, and carl edwards is 77 back. two races left - hpoenix next week and homestead on the 20th. gonna be an exciting 2 races.
olympic countdown 96 days to torino 2006. good grief. i cant believe theyre almost here. the torino olympics start feb. 10. doesn't seem so long ago the 2002 olympics in salt lake games happened. or even athens 2004. best salt lake memories - well i got two. the double hockey gold won by the mens and womens hockey teams and the saskatchewan trip with darren during those olympics. gosh that was fun. dont know if that will happen for the torino olympics. one week from today the mascot(s) for the beijing olympics will be released. november 12 would mark 1000 days to the beijing summer olympics. cant wait.

cool idea this is something that michelle put on her blog. it shows where you've been. its www.world66.com . check it out. p.s.cool idea michelle
november already? good grief. okay, where to start. october saw the chicago white sox win the world series, the nhl season start, loads of car racing and football, halloween and the end of daylight savings time. november brings the grey cup on the 27th, three car races to go on the 6th, 13th and 20th (texas, phoenix and homestead) and remembrance day. oh yeah and more nfl football and lots of hockey. anyways thats all for that.
bass pro shops mbna 500 carl edwards won in atlanta. he won in atlanta back in march as well. gets the sweep and got in the backflip. jeff gordon got second. tony stewart finished 9th and jimmie johnson finished 16th. tony stewart now leads by 43 over johnson and 75 over greg biffle, who finished 7th. next race in texas and the dickies 500.
final baseball thoughts hers some final baseball thoughs related to the world series. jermaine dye was voted mvp and got a new chevy. with the red sox winning after 86 years last year and the white sox winning after 88 years this year, thats 174 years of drought done in two seasons. could the cubs do it next year? last time they won was 1908. we shall see what 2006 brings.
world series game 4 the chicago are 2005 world series champions. a 1-0 win tonite and a 4 game sweep. plus an 88 year drought is over. last time a world series ended 1-0 was 1995 when the atlanta braves won. congratulations to the chicago white sox.
world series game 3 chicago just beat houston 7-5 in 14 innings. longest game time wise at 5h41m. the 14 innings tied a world series record, set in 1916 when boston beat brooklyn 2-1. all time innings record is 18 when houston beat atlanta 7-6 in this years nlds. longest lcs record for innings - 16, also involving the astros. they lost to the mets. chicago is one win away from winning their first world series since 1917. game 4 later tonite. freddie garcia for chicago and brandon backe for houston. stay tuned.
subway 500 jeff gordon won this one. had a good car. first win since talladega on may 1. tony stewart finished second (led the most laps) and jimmie johnson finished 3rd. tony stewart leads by 15 points over jimmie johnson with four races to go. next race in atlanta a week from today.
world series game 2 wow. quite the game that just finished. scott podsednick just hit a game winning home run for the white sox giving them a 7-6 win and a 2-0 series lead going back to houston for game 3 on tuesday. houston was up 4-2 going to the bottom of 7th. i forget who hit the grand slam, but the homer put chicago up 6-4. houston ties it at 6 when lance berkman hit a 2 run base hit in the top of nine. which led to podsednick winning it in the bottom half. game 3, like i said, is tuesday.
world series game one the white sox drew first blood in the first game with a 5-3 win. jose contreras got the win. roger clemens went two innings before leaving with an apparant hamstring problem. the chicago bull pen was working well despite a long layoff. the only action prior to tonite was 2/3 of an inning in game one of the alcs. anyways game two tomorrow. andy pettite goes for houston and mark buehrle goes for chicago.
houston astros to the world series the houston astros are in the world series for the first time in franchise history. they defeated the cardinals 5-1 and the series 4-2. the world series starts saturday in chicago. this was also the last ever game at busch stadium. they start next season at the new busch stadium across the street for 2006. this'll be a great series.
question about "restrictor plate racing" i was reading a comment by darren and he asked what restrictor plate racing was. (i think the entry was after the talladega race on the second of this month). heres the answer. the use of the restrictor plate is to cut down the horse power, which generates speed. the more horse power, the more speed. the only places the plates are used is in talladega and daytona. not only are they 2.5 miles or longer, but if you watch a race from either track, you notice the tracks are wide as well. the result is the cars are bunched up in one "glob" which makes for exciting racing. the downside is the inevitable big wreck. other places like pocono are the size of daytona, BUT they dont use the plate there for two reasons. 1. the shape of the track. its 3 sided. and 2. the thought of going into one of three turns that close together could lead to some serious problems. different kinds of tracks, different kinds of racing. an
nlcs game 5 wow. the astros were one out from going to the world series. before you know it, alber puhols hit a 3 run homer to put st. louis up 5-4 and thats the way game five ended. game six is wednesday from busch stadium in st. louis.
nlcs game 4 & alcs game 5 the houston astros are one win from going to their first ever trip to the world series with a 2-1 win over st. louis cardinals. this may be pay back from losing to them last year. meanwhile the chicago white sox just beat the anaheim angels 6-3 and are making their first trip to the world series since 1959 when they lost to the dodgers in 6 games. cant wait for the world series now.
uaw gm quality 500 crazy. thats all i got to say to describe this race. tire issues left right and centre. most of it the right front. jimmie johnson won tonite. tony stewart ran over debris, cut a right rear and backed into the wall hard enough to continue and finish 25th. stewart and johnson are tied for the points lead with 5777 pts and greg biffle sites 3rd, 11 pts back, ryan newman is 17 back, mark martin is 51 back and carl edwards round up the top 6 54 pts behind the co-leaders. next up, martinsville a week from tomorrow. thats all from me for tonite anyways.
alcs game 4 chicago white sox just won game 4 8-2. geez, one win away from their first trip to the world series since 1959. that year they lost to the dodgers. hopefully they dont pull off on what happened to the yankees - choke. heres hoping.
nlcs game 3 houston won game 3 this afternoon 4-3. dont know how it went since i was working. game four tomorrow.
alcs game 3 the chicago white sox just beat the anaheim angels 5-2 on a complete game pitched by john garland. he threw close to 120 pitches. back to back complet games pitched by chicago - both wins. last time that happed was by florida in games 5 and 6 in the 1997 nlcs. livan hernandes and kevin brown got the wins. anyways game four in anaheim tomorrow night and st. louis at houston for game 3 of the nlcs tomorrow afternoon.
nlcs game 2 houston has tied this series at one with a 4-1 win. roy oswold got the win in this one. brad lidge got the save. both pitchers stymied the cardinals to 5 hits all game. game 3 is saturday in houston.
baseball action st. louis won game 1 of the n.l.c.s tonite 5-3. chris carpenter, i believe, got the win. game 2 tomorrow on fox. after anaheim won game one of the a.l.c.s 3-1 last night, chicago tied the series at one with a 2-1 win. the win followed some controversy when josh paul clearly caught kelvim escobar's pitch before the ball hit the dirt (check the replay). the umpire called strike thre after a.j. piersynski swung and missed, which would have ended the 9th inning and continued into the 10th tied at one. piersynski, thinking maybe the ball hit the dirt, took a chance and ran for first ans josh paul flipped the ball to the mound thinking the inning was over. anyways the umpires let piersynski stay at first, who got replaced by a pinch runner. he stole second. joe crede ended up winning it with a double off the left field wall and chicago wins 2-1.
angels move on the angels beat the yankees 5-3 and goes to chicago to face the white sox in game one of the alcs tomorrow night. geez, three games in three different cities. last night in new york (yanks won), tonite in anaheim and tomorrow in chicago. in the n.l., its the cardinals and the astros starting wednesday.
banquet 400 mark martin won the banquet 400. had the hot rod today and led the most laps. the roushketeers keep rolling. next race is saturdat in charlotte. tony stewart now leads the points by 75 points.
houston advances and sad day for jays the houston astros advance to the n.l.c.s with a 7-6 18 inning game. long one indeed. they play the st.louis cardinals, who won last night ofer san diego. sad day for anyone who's followed the jays. tom cheek, the long time radio play by play announcer, passed away early this morning to brain cancer. he started there with the first game on a snowy day on april 7 1977 with a 7-4 win over the white sox. doug ault with 2 homers. he went 4306 straight games before missing games with his fathers funeral and the operation to remove a cancerous tumer in his brain. best memory - "TOUCH 'EM ALL JOE! YOU'LL NEVER HIT BIGGER HOMER IN YOU LIFE!" that from game 6 of the '93 world series against philadelphia.
a great saturday night im loving tonite. got hockey night in canada going. montreal beat toronto 5-4 in the first game of the double header. edmonton is leading vancouver 2-1 in the 2nd. in the mlb playoffs, houston beat atlanta 7-3, anaheim and new york got postponed due to rain and st.louis and san diego just started moments ago. plus laundry and montreal beating saskatchewan 38-34 in the only cfl game tonite. talk about a great saturday night.
red sox done the defending world series champs are out. the chicago white sox just finished a 3 game sweep (first round best of 5) and are in the a.l.c.s between either the angels or the yankees. a historical fact for chicago - the last world series they won was 1917. two years later (1919) eight white sox players got kicked out of baseball for "throwing" the world series, known as the "black sox scandal." so there ya go.
nhl season begins tonite GAME ON!!!!! the puck drops tonite in 15 sites. yep, all 30 teams play tonite. new rules. new changes. hopefully makes for an exciting season. as morles scott would say - lets play hockey.
postseason baseball the race to the world series has begun. st.louis beat san diego 8-5 and chicago won 14-2 over boston. the yankees play the angels tonite. atlanta and houston start tomorrow. time to go watch some baseball.
uaw/ford 500 talk about a wild finish. im surprised there wasnt a huge wreck at the end (other than kyle petty) dale jarrett was scored as the winner. tony stewart came second and has retaken the lead by 4 points over ryan newman. there was even two mini wrecks that got mikey waltrip and scott riggs to flip over a few times. mark martin, im under the impression, cant stand restrictor plate racing. exciting, yes. unless your cheering for someone (like i was with tony stewart), you hope your guy dont wreck. anyways thats talladega. next race in kansas on the 9th. and no restrictor plate.
mlb playoffs start tuesday the road to the world series start tuesday. the a.l. matchups: n.y. yankees vs anaheim angels and the boston red sox vs chicako white sox. the n.l. matchups: houston astros vs atlanta braves and the st.louis cardinals vs san diego padres. gotta love october baseball.
n.y yankees a.l. east champs the yankees won the a.l. east by beating boston 8-4. even though they could end up tied for the division, if the red sox win the wild card the yankees get it by the season record against boston. so tomorrow its either the red sox or the indians into the playoffs UNLESS they are tied with the same record. then its a one game playoff in boston. well see.
a.l. central decided - officially chicago made it official tonite. they beat cleveland 3-2. so forget any tiebreaks there. with the loss, cleveland lost the wildcard lead. that is being shared by the yankees and the red sox, who are tied for the a.l. east lead. only the n.l. wild card is yet to be decided. fun way to end september. good way to begin october tomorrow too. road to the world series, car racing and football (cfl and nfl). suddenly my head is spinning from all the sports fun.
another division decided chicago white sox got the a.l. central. ok, granted that them and cleveland could end up tied for the division IF cleveland hangs on to the wild card this weekend. chicago gets the tiebreak based in the season series.
san diego padres n.l. west champions the san diego padres wrapped it up with a 9-1 win over the san francisco giants. the down side is their record. they are at 79-79. the 1973 n.y. mets had a 82-79 record. the padres could have a worse record by the time sunday is done. yikes indeed. anyways there ya have it.
stretch drive sand diego can win the n.l. west by beating san francisco. last night, the atlanta braves and anaheim angels won the n.l. east and a.l. west. st. louis had already won the n.l. central about 10-12 days ago. the yankees lead bosont by one game in the a.l. east, chicago white sox lead cleveland by three games in the a.l. central and boston andcleveland are tied in the a.l. wild card. houston leads philadelphia by 2.5 games in the n.l. wild card. i forgot to mention barry bonds hit #708 last night. tonight, the last i checked, san diego leads san francisco 4-0 in the 4th. updates on www.mlb.com . have fun with the home stretch.

flags of olympic hosts another project finished. all the flags of countries who have hosted the olympics. got all the flags from discount flags superstore. i think they look great. already sent these images to the guy who owns the flag store. enjoy
kansas city at denver the broncos owned the chiefs tonight. denver scored 17 pts in the first quarter en route to a 30-10 win. denver's offence mixed up their plays and frustrated the k.c. defence. and the denver defence didnt let k.c. do much. next monday is green bay at carolina.
mbna points race 400 jimmie johnson won today. and i didnt watch it. i thought i had it taped (next time i get a tv guide before hand). then i find a tv guide from the sun and discovered i taped golf and the race was tape delayed for later while i was at work. i should definitely get a tv guide from the journal. from what i read on nascar.com, tony stewart had an ill handling car, greg biffle cut a tire and matt kenseth finished 35th. wild. next race in talladega a week from today. gonna be fun.
autumnal equinox the official first day of autumn began at 4:23 pm edmonton time today. im loving the fall air. the last couple of days its felt like it. i call it world series weather, cause it feels this cool during the world series. especially walking around without a jacket. ive grown to like the fall weather. anyways, there ya go.
he did it again barry bonds hit #707 tonight in washington. which makes me wonder: now that he has hit a homer in washington, how many major league ball parks has he hit in, current or old ones? somewhere, someone has the answer.
barry bonds barry bonds, since coming off the d.l. last monday, hit his 3rd homer of the season tonite. he now has 706 in his career. the giants have 12 games left and bonds is 8 h.r's from tying babe ruth with 714. gonna get good.
some finish in dallas what a finish between the redskins and cowboys last night. dallas honored troy aikman, michael irvin and emmitt smith at halftime and the cowboys weere leading 13-0 late in the 4th quarter. until the redskins scored their first two touchdowns of the season withing two minutes and they end up winning 14-13. that was washington's first win in ten years.
sylvania 300 what a race in louden. ryan newman won. tempers flared. e.g. kasey kahne at kyle busch and robby gordon really got mad at michael waltrip and called him " a piece of shit" on air. all of this prompted nascar to issue this: any more tantrums like this will result in a driver being parked for the next race. rbby gordon will likely lose 25 points and probably lose some money. anyways tony stewart still leads the points. kurt busch lost some points and sits 10th after an early accident with scott riggs. if this was exciting, i cant wait to see what dover will be like next sunday. cant wait
minutes away..... .....from the first preseason game of the year with the calgary flames in town against the oilers. time to let off some steam beforre the first regular season game on october 5th against colorado. lets play hockey.
big oiler news for anyone who doesnt know yet, ryan smyth signed a two year contract. havent heard the terms yet. the oilers needed to sign him too. coming october 3, the oilers will have a brand new look to their website. cant wait to see that.
busy sports sunday boy was this statistician busy today. the usual baseball AND the first sunday of the nfl season. ive got the colts and the ravens on now. 17-0 colts five minutes into the fourth quarter. off to bed once the game is over. good thing the car race was last night. i dont know what i'd do.
the race for the championship kurt busch won the chevy rock and roll 400 tonite. starting in louden on the 18th, the 10 race playoff begins. the 10 drivers who are in and their adjusted points in parenthesis: 1. tony stewart (5050), 2. greg biffle (5045), 3. rusty wallace (5040), 4. jimmie johnson (5035), 5. kurt busch (5030), 6. mark martin (5025), 7. jeremy mayfield (5020), 8. carl edwards (5015), 9. matt kenseth (5010), 10. ryan newman (5005). there we have it. fun begins on the 18th in louden and the sylvania 300.
the red green show the comedy channel recently started airing the first episodes of the red green show when the show first started. for a while they were showing red green from season 4 and up, which makes this pretty cool. now where did i put that bag og m&ms?
nfl opening night tonight is the opening night of the nfl season. kick off between the new england patriots and the oakland raiders at gillette stadium in new england. 14 more games on sunday and one more on monday night. the monday night game between philadelphia and atlanta starts the final season on abc. next season monday night football will be on espn (i think its espn). gonna be a fun season.
sony hd 500 kyle busch has just won his first career race in california tonite. he became the youngest driver to win as well, but by just four days. atta boy kyle. the race for the chase is getting fun now. 62 points between 9th (matt kenseth) and 13th (elliot sadler). mark martin and kurt busch got in tonite (well, kurt has to start in richmond). the last race before the 10 race playoff is saturday night in richmond. gonna be fun on saturday.

view from the ball park great shots of the legislature and downtown. need i say more?
Image
various ones got one from outside the ball park, a car in the stands and crusher showing he can play too. how they got the car there? the use of a crane. crusher is the name of the mascot and what the ball park looks like from the outside.
Image
action on the field the top left with winnipeg batting. the top right with edmonton batting and the left one with the lights on
Image
images from the ballpark yep. was at the ball game against the winnipeg goldeyes tonite. here's the field from left to right field.

baseball pic in a way heres proof i was at the game - kinda. the hat was a giveaway promotion and the ball was fouled back into the area in right where i was sitting. not many people in the area and i had the jump on another guy there. silly me forgot to put the ticket stub there. would have had the pic up sooner, but the batteries in my camera decided to play stubborn. time to get new batteries. may go to a game friday. hopefully i'll remember to bring my camera and get pics of the ball park. oh yeah i almost forgot. happy birthday alberta.
already the end of august last day of august usually means the end of summer (although fall starts on the 22 of september. could be off by a day or two there). august seems like a blur. more like a dream. okay i was right the first time. it did go like a blur. or was it a fog? i dont know. my head is clouded at the moment. anyways what happened? my birthday for starters. 31 already. good grief. darren visited, then went home on the 11th. lots of baseball and cfl football. cbc is on strike. are they really? never noticed. apparantly the cbc televised the last couple of cfl saturday games with no announcers and such. i heard it was beeter than with announcers. i didnt see either game so i dont know. whats to come in september? the start of: 1. the nfl season. 2. the pennant drives in baseball. 3. the race for the championship in nascar. at least once the race in richmond is decided. 10 races to go after richmond is designated at the campoinship playoff. top te
peanuts found a website that has connections to the "peanuts" characters and the creator, charles m. shultz. its www.flyingace.net . shultz has a museum named after him and theres a ice rink named after snoopy. if there are any "peanuts" fans out there (and i know darren is one) , check it out.
sharpie 500 matt kenseth won this one going away. led abour 400 of 500 laps to win this race. made up alot of points to get to the top 10 "chase for championship." tony stewart, jimmie johnson, greg biffle and rusty wallace (okay so rusty has to start in california and hes in) are officialy in. heres a scary stat - the gap between 9th and 14th in the points, 98 pts. two races left for the 10 race "chase" being california on the 4th and richmond on the 10th (both night races). gonna get exciting.
one from the air farce another something from the confused philosopher skit. "if canadians didn't have weather, what would they complain about?" i think theres some truth to the comment.
almost baseball history.....? last night between the new york mets and arizona diamondbacks, 3 mets players almost got a cycle (single, double, triple, and home run in the same game) in an 18-4 romp over arizona. david wright and mike jacobs needed a triple for the cycle and jose reyes needed a double. talk about accomplishing history. that would have been phenomenal. anyways theres your wild stat of the night.
alberta the most comfortable place to live? i guess someone or a group of people did a 30 year study based on the weather and alberta was named most comfortable place to live. my first though was "are you sure you got the right province?" i mean b.c. is the most obviuos choice. one of their points was " the little snow we get during the winters." whoever said that has never lived in this province long enough. maybe they were from some city where they had to call in the army just to get help with snow removal after a major snow storm. anyways when i first heard this, i laughed. i still think b.c. should have gotten the title.
gfs marketplace 400 jeremy mayfield won this one. can you believe it? boy did gas mileage come into play with drivers coming in within the last 15 laps. yikes. tony stewart held the points lead with 3268. he finished 5th. jimmie johnson finished 10th and is 126 pts out in 2nd. next race (and i cant wait for this one) is saturday night in bristol. half mile mayhem at its best.
condolonces to benny parsons bp's father passed away today. my condolonces go to him and his family. from which bill weber threw out an interesting stat. bp's only win at michigan came on june 15, 1980. june 15 1980 happened to be fathers day. im getting chills thinking of it.
something cool okay, heres something cool on the oilers website ( www.edmontonoilers.com ). morley scott has started his own audio blog. morley scott does color commentary on 630 ched. his first blog was on the accuisition of chris pronger. check it out.
a long one in chicago minnesota and chicago just finished a long one. minnesota scored 5 runs in the top of the 16th inning to win 9-4 over chicago. the white sox went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of 16. this game comes almost three weeks after toronto and anaheim went 18 in toronto. any more long ones left? probably. just dont know when.
Image
before and after yep. i finally dyed my hair. got it done after work today. im starting to like it. its a keeper.
tony does it again tony stewart wins in watkins glen. i think thats his 4th win in 6 races. he leads jimmie johnson by 105 pts. next race in michigan.
condolences to sterling marlin condolonces to sterling marling and his family to the passing of his father "coo coo" marlin this morning. my thoughts are with sterling.

gateway to "the room" i show this for a simple reason. a year ago today was the opening ceremonies to the athens olympics. hence the greek flags (and canada of course). boy did greece put on a great show. ahhh the memories. i guess its time to start learning greek. (yes ive gone total greek).
good one in ottawa this was a great game in ottawa. the ottawa renegades beat the saskatchewan rough riders 22-17. both teams traded the lead all game. the difference - 6 turnovers by saskatchewan (sorry rider fans). the cool thing about the cfl - it isnt over until theres no time left in the game.
allstate 400 at the brickyard tony stewart has won it at at his home track - the indianapolis motor speeday. jimmie johnson wreck. finished 37th. tony stewart is the new points leader 75 pts ahead. atta boy tony.
Image
cool lamp this is my birthday present. took this pic with the lamp on only. looks cool with this on in the dark.
jays vs white sox can you believe it? the jays took 2 out of 3 against the top team in baseball - the chicago white sox. pretty damn good. 3 games this weekend against the yankees. go jays
Image
got new digital camera obviously i got myself a new digital camrea. these are the best ones i got. from the olympics to avril lavigne. im very happy so far. enjoy.
oiler news wow have the oilers been busy. last night they get chris pronger from st. louis an a trade (gave up eric brewer, doug lynch and jeff woywitka). just announced moments ago, the oilers got mike peca from the n.y. islanders in a trade (sent mike york to the islanders). details of this trade to follow. the oilers signed pronger to a five year deal. these deals would not have been possible if it werent for the very current cba, shich gives small market teams, like edmonton, to get big name players. i even heard today that the flames signed jarome iginla to a 3 year deal, which is good for them.
fun birthday had a great birthday - at least after work. darren and i went to a greek restaraunt (my pick), hung around the river valley (saw a canoe in the river), and hung around here. still hyper with the pop thats still in me.the restaraunt's name is "its all greek to me." and, boy, was the waitress cute. (sorry). its all good. i think i might want to go back to the restaraunt, just not now.
start of august its august already. whoopee. *hint of sarcasm there* anyways one cfl game and toronto beat winnipeg 34-27, 4 basevall games (and a lot more afterwards lol), more car racing starting in indianapolis on the 7th and preseason nfl football. tonite is the finale of hells kitchen. michael vs ralph. winner gets his own restaraunt. gonna be a doozy. payday today too. well see how fast august goes.
end of july already? shit. damn. where did july go? can't believe its over already. lets see...... got to go to a car race, watch more car races on tv, baseball and football. thats all i can remember. oh yeah and darren coming home. and london being chosen to host the 2012 summer olympics. seems like a lot happened. my sister's b-day this past wednesday. golly. yeah and im threatening to dye my hair black. people, youve been warned.
a long one in toronto quite a long one between the angels and the blue jays tonight. the jays won 2-1 in 18 innings - a franchise record for extra innings played. both teams scored a run in the 9th, then nothing until the 18th. good thing for toronto is the have a 3 game set at home against texas starting tomorrow. bad thing for the angels - they have to go to new york and play the yankees for three. a long night tonight.
nhl schedule is out the first night of the 2005-06 season is wed. oct. 5 and includes all 30 teams (yep 15 games). check out the schedule on www.nhl.com .
birthday reminder okay, i was just reminded my birthday is tuesday when darren suggested a dinner get together on tuesday. its cool. i'm thinking greek. he did say i get to pick. im still thinking greek. still time between now and tuesday.
happy birthday to my sister yeah, today's my sisters birthday. i think i should phone her up and wish her a happy birthday later. hmmm now where did i put that number.......?
is it almost august? gaa! yeah, july is nearly done. 5 days left and next thing we all know its august. klondike days and the world masters games are happening simultaneously which is cool. lots of people here from other countries like australia, south africa and russia. both events going to the end of july. oh the insanity lol.
pennsylvania 500 kurt busch had the car today. led the most laps and won with a green-white-checker finish. rusty wallas was 2nd and mark martin was 3rd. jimmie johnson finished 13th and still held the points. tony stewart is the new 2nd place driver, just 66 back. greg biffle is 3rd, 77 pts back. next race august 7 at indianapolis.
quite the game in winnipeg this mustve been a heck of a game in winnipeg. and i missed it. winnipeg won their first game of the year 51-46. this ended up as the 12th highes scoring game in cfl history. from what i heard (i caught the end of it) montreal made a valiant comeback, but fell short. mustve been fun.
owners ratify the owners have ratified the cba agreement. there will be a 2005-06 season. looking forward to taking some hockey. see you in the fall.
players ratify deal the nhlpa ratified the deal that was made last wednesday (see july 13 post). the owners will vote for ratification tomorrow. so were almost getting a 2005-06 season. stay tuned.
klondike days klondike days start tomorrow. woo! i wonder if i should go tomorrow. i definitely want to go. cant wait. $8 to get in. dont know if i want to play any games or anything. had mini donuts for the first time last year and i got hooked. want some this year. mmmmmm donuts. gonna be fun - maybe.
new england 300 tony stewart led 232 of 300 laps on his way to his 3rd win in four races. the guy is on a roll. throw in a 5th last week and a 3rd on june 19, hes made up alot of ground in the points. he sits 3rd, 85 points jimmie johnson, who finished 13th. greg biffle finished 5th and is 77 behind johnson. gonna make for a fun run to the end of the season. next race is next sunday in pocono.
w.e.m. grand prix of edmonton sebastian bordais won the wem grand prix of edmonton this afternoon. had a pretty decent run today. paul tracy finished 3rd in this race considering a bit of a brake problem. prior to this race, there was the toyota atlantic race. katherine legge won this one after a great pass in turn 12, helped by charles zwolsman getting hung up by a couple of slower cars heading into turns 11 and 12. by the way, my arms are a little on the red side. otherwise, it was a great day.
rafael palmeiro rafael palmeiro has just gotten his 3000th hit tonite in seattle. he is one of four players who has gotten 3000 hits and 500 home runs, joining hank aaron, willie mays and eddie murray. congrats to rafael.
game on the nhl and nhlpa have reached an agreement in principle. both sides will have to vote on the deal next week. once it ratified, there will be hockey this coming season. lets get this show on the road.
the 76th mlb all star game the american league just won its 8th straight all star game 7-5. the national league started making noise late, but not enough. the american leauge, with the win, will have home field advantage for the world series. miguel tejada was named all star mvp.
usg sheetrock 400 dale earnhardt jr has just won the usg sheetrock 400. hopefully some momentum to get into the race for the chase. jimmie johnson still leads the points, now by 108. he finished 3rd. next race in new england on the 17th, while the champ car world series is here in edmonton on the same day. later
the host of the 2012 summer olympics is...... .....london, england. beat out paris by four votes. it took four rounds of voting. anyways the votes was 54-50. pretty close. last time london hosted the olympics was 1948. congratulations to london. i was kinda hoping they would win. *gets up and applauds london.*
independance day happy independance day today. 4th of july in the states. hopefully its been a great one. wish i was there visiting. cheers.
pepsi 400 tony stewart has just won the pepsi 400. he led almost 150 laps tonight. the start was delayed 2 and a half hours thanks to the rain, and the slow drying of the track. made for a long night. jimmie johnson finished 6th and greg biffle finished 36th. so jimmie johnson retakes the points lead by 73 pts. next race in chicago on the 10.
happy canada day today is canada day. yay. lots of people walking around the city with canada flags and canada tatoos (temporary anyways) and fireworks tonite at 11pm, weather permitting. noticing dark clouds and i think we may get slammed with a nasty storm. i get home from work and decided to mow the lawn before the potential storm. all is good.
end of june already geez, june is almost toast. lets see here. there was greekfest. very cool. cfl season started. excellent. loads of baseball, of course. loads of rain causing rivers to rise, which isn't good. cant remember what else. oh well. july tomorrow. more cfl football, more baseball, the mlb all star game, more car racing. (oh yeah there was car racing). got the champ car world series race coming to edmonton on the 17th and im going. canada day tomorrow. nice way to start july.
one more week to... .... the announcement to see who hosts the 2012 summer olympics. the final five is london, paris, moscow, madrid and new york. the announcement will be made in singapore sometime during the late afternoon here in edmonton. at least thats what i read on gamesbids.com. anyways stay tuned.
string of interesting luck just my luck. monday at work, in the midst of a garbage run (busy emptying garbages. it was busy at lunch time) i find 10 bucks, from which one of my supervisors says "now get some smarties or i wont talk to you." (okay there was some sarcasm to how she said it. i know how much she likes smarties). got some pop and smarties (shared the smarties of course) and a scratch and win. (more like a scratch and lose. i never win on those anyways). yesterday i put my uniform into the dryer i find 5 bucks in there. im like shit, what is it with my luck all of a sudden. got more pop. that'll probably be it with my luck for awhile. we'll see.
dodge/save mart 350 geez tony stewart must like road racing. he won today in sonoma and his 4th out of the last 9 road course races. we also have a new points leader greg biffle leads jimmie johnson by 25 pts. cant wait until saturday night. the pepsi 400 in daytona. racing under the lights is gonna be fun. WOOOO!
a cool find i found something cool browsing around. a website of 80's themes (tv shows, commercials, et al). it is www.80stvthemes.com . i had a ball playing around. ahhhh the memories of my childhood.
cfl season underway the cfl started this past wednesday with montreal winning 31-21 over hamilton and edmonton winning 41-16 over ottawa last night. tonight its the 2004 grey cup rematch with bc at toronto and winnipeg at saskatchewan. gotta love the canadian football league
san antonio spurs win nba title the san antonio spurs have defeated the detroit pistons 81-74 in game 7 of the nba championship series, and win the series 4 games to 3. the spurs have won their 3rd championship in 7 years. tim duncan won the mvp award of the series. kaite figures it should have been manu ginobli. anyways. congrats to the spurs.
when greek food does wonders yay for greek food. with my flu over the weekend, i hardly ate (mostly because i felt sick). tuesday i felt hungry enough to get some greek food from opa! souvlaki in the phase 3 food court. (since i got paid on monday, i figured what the heck). it helped immensely. i perked up enough to get through the rest of the day. and i had some more greek food from opa today too. i like greek food. for some strange reason i dont want to eat anywhere else. and i know the people there too. the whole family owns that store work there plus a couple of other people that arent family (i think). anyways, yay gor greek food.
floods, warm weather, and under the weather this province has bee getting flooded. southern alberta got hit twice in two weeks. even the north saskatchewan was higher than normal. red deer, drumheller and sundre got flooded. the culprit - lots of rain. got up to 29c today. too warm for my liking. too warm to work too. supposed to cool of the next few days. i like that. ive been under the weather the last few days. im still not excactly over it yet but im getting more energized and more strength bit by bit. got tommorow of, which helps. need the rest
batman begins 400 greg biffle won his 5th race of the season today. tony stewart had the car and the most laps led, but couldnt get to biffle. next week - the first road course race of the season in sonoma. the dodge/save mart 350 at infineon raceway out in wine country in sonoma california.
greekfest 2005 got to go check out greekfest. it was pretty cool. there was greek dancing going when i got there. that was fun to watch. there was a live greek band. that i enjoyed. and of course greek food. (mmmmmmmm greek food). the only sad part - the damn rain. its been raining all day. otherwise there would have been more people there, which would have made it more fun. it's in the parking lot of st. georges greek orthodox church. they go again tomorrow until 6. cant make it tomorrow cause of work. i'll say this much - that's as close to a greek orthodox church as ever have gotten without going inside. im even listening to greek music now. WOO!
he's coming ba-ack darren is coming back home for 3 weeks. he'll be home on july 21st. way cool. maybe a cracker-cats game. if i remember right, he's got a family reunion to go to at the end of july. and yes darren i looked. later.
the cut i am watching "the cut." the first episode was last week. "the cut" is when 16 (now 15) aspiring designers get a chance to work with tommy hilfiger. they started with 2 teams of 8. last week both teams had to create an ad on a billboard on 50th and broadway in manhattan. tonight the remaining 15 has to work on a pimping ride (they are working on the lincoln navigator) which will be judged by the rapper fabulous. this is hosted by the top designer himself - tommy hilfiger.
feeling better feeling better compared to yesterday. it helps when one has a day off and a chance to sleep in. at least i dont feel like shit, more energized. plus having some pop did it too. so im good now. go to work tomorrow the same as today and were all good - at least i hope.
i feel like shit thats what i feel like now. i wake up from my nap thinking i would feel energized, but i feel like shit. i think im coming down with something. im not sure yet. id have to get a good night sleep and find out how i feel tommorow. good thing im off tomorrow. might be helpful.
pocono 500 carl edwards won the pocono 500 earlier today. even did his patented victory back flip from his window (after stopping his car at the finish line). he made up 5 spots in the points. jimmie johnson finished 6th and still leads the points. it got bigger after greg biffle had an issue with brakes and finished 30th. next race is the 19th in michigan.
red sox vs cubs cheers to interleague. today began a 3 game set between the boston red sox and the chicago cubs at wrigley field (chicago 14 boston 6). this is the first meeting between the two teams since the 1918 world series. that was the last time boston had won the world series until last year. the cubs hasnt won the world series since 1908. perhaps a world series meeting? who knows.
what a "rush" the edmonton lacrosse new team name is the "rush." the announcement was made earlier today. the story on www.nll.com . check it out. the colors and logo will be unveiled at a later date. edmonton and portland (they dont have a name yet) start play in 2006. wow, that would be in 7 months.
baseball milestone alex rodriguez hit 2 home runs to become the youngest player to hit 400 home runs in his career. he passed al kaline and andres gallaraga, who sat at 399. next up: duke snider at 407.
thinking and listening to avril lavigne a random thought ran through my head while i was sitting here and listening to avril lavinge. she is in town here on july 29 and my birthday is four days later. i dropped an obvious hint to a friend of mine, when i "suggested" that he should get me a ticket to avrils concert for my birthday. it's scary what thoughts go through my head when im bored. or in deep thought and listening to avril lavigne.
mbna pointsrace 400 greg biffle won the mbna pointsrace 400 in dover, deleware today leading the last 150 laps (the most laps led in the race). jimmie johnson finished 4th and leads the point by 46 pts over greg biffle. next race is the pocono 500 in pocono pennsylvania. yep the three sided track (my fav).
back at it first day back to work and boy im not used to getting up early. i cant believe how fast the day went, though. had a short nap when i got home. i needed it too. i was zonking out watching tv so off to bed for an hour. my next day off will get here before i know it. and payday is monday too so theres some motivation. i dont know what im gonna do with it besides pay bills. i'll figure it out.
an end of a week off nice way to start june. my last day before i head back to "reality." yep, back to work. shit. it was a nice week too. it was a good week none the less. from the cracker-cats home opener to 1100 miles of racing. it was good. hopefully im refreshed. it'll be back to my usualy grumpy self come tomorrow. back to the freak show that is west edmonton mall.
another may bites the dust geez, another may gone already. i still dont know where it went. lets see, there was the indy 500, the coca cola 600, the edmonton cracker cats inaugural home opener, cfl training camps started already, and loads of major league baseball. june brings more baseball, the beginning of the cfl season and the start of tourist season at THE mall. joy. well, what else can i do? not much.
1100 miles of racing is done dan wheldon won the indianapolis 500 this afternoon. he won it by passing danica patrick with 7 laps to go. i give my props to danica patrick. the first woman to lead the 500 and damn near won it and finished 4th. the winner - as tradition, besides winning a nice sum of money - gets a wreath around is neck AND the traditional jug of milk to drink. fun race. the coca cola 600 was won by jimmie johnson for the 3rd straight year. this had a few records broken for this particular race (which started in 1960 as the world 600). most cautions: 22 (15 previos record at charlotte. record was 20 at bristol), most lead changes with 37 and most drivers who led with 21. this race took 5 hours 13 minutes and 52 seconds to run. 1100 miles and almost 11 hours and im done looking at t.v. screens. i guess that would include this computer screen. and endurance test for sure.
cracker-cats home opener a gorgeous night for baseball. sioux falls won 9-7. this was an interesting one.edmontons piching struggled a bit despite the score. what killed the cats was the 5 run 5th. couple of errors did the damage there. edmonton made it close in the bottom of 9 when they loaded the bases and had scored a run (the 7th of the game). the sioux falls pitcher struck out the edmonton batter to end the game. randy ferbey's curling team - at least him, scott pfieffer and 5th don holowachuk - made an appearance and signed autograghs before the game. edmonton unveiled their mascot. just look at the logo and you'll see the mascot - a cat named ..... well it doesn't have a name YET. the mascot naming contest is on. im thinking "crackers" for some strange reason i dont know why. anyways theres the story on the home opener.
baseball state of mind less than 24 hours to the cracker-cats home opener and i am ready. the sioux falls canaries are the first guests to telus field. and theres a log jam for second in the a.l. east. baltimore is leading with a 30-16 record. toronto and the yankees are tied for second with 26-21 records and boston is fourth at 25-21 record. all of this is mostly due to the fact that toronto just swept boston in a 3 game set that ended tonight. gonna be a great summer for sure.
the contender, baseball home opener, and vacation time sergio mora has won the title of "the contender" defeating peter manfredo jr. in a great 7 round fight. i think sergio won it in the 7th round with an all round flurry. up until then, the fight was pretty close. i now have my ticket for the edmonton cracker-cats home opener on friday night. of course, im gonna be parked in the right field bleachers (so call me a bleacher bum). looking forward to it. the first ever home opener and i gotta be there. i am officially on my vacation. WOOHOO. started after i punched out at 4 pm today. a week away from THE mall. i like the thought of sleeping in every day already. a great opportunity to go to any other mall besides w.e.m.
the nascar nextel all-star race mark martin has just won the annual all-star challenge in charlotte n.c. tonight and picked up a cool million bucks. next race is may 29 and the coca cola 600, also in charlotte. cant wait for the 29th. the indianapolis 500 and the coca cola 600. 1100 miles of racing. gonna be fun.
25 years ago today hard to believe its been 25 years since the eruption of mt. st. helens. the difference between then and now with the scenery is very noticable. after the eruption - a lot of ash all over the place, trees snapped off and rooted up and water ways like rivers and lakes were a mess. today, the trees are green, the wildlife returned and life in the lakes. a lot of the trees that got blown down got removed, which turned up ash and the ground which made planting new trees possible. now they are over 40 feet. even fish returned to spirit lake. quite an event then. theres now a monument in the explosion area. id love to go check it out.
severe weather season has begun yep, its severe weather season time. first storm has kinda passed through. its still cloudy and dark out. its quit raining - for now. havent seen lightning or heard thunder for a bit, but the threat is still here. the rain is much needed. dont need a drought or forest fires. thunderstorms are nice to watch from inside. watching the rain fall, the lighning flash and hearing the thunder makes it fun - even when the lights go out (that can be a pain in the ass too).
survivor finale and olympic sized project (kinda) tom westman is sole survivor of survivor palau. he won one million bucks AND a 2005 chevrolet ssr in a most interesting finale tonite. my olympic sized project is going. i'm putting up my olympic mini posters, emblems, torches and mascots. i got partway done. gotta get more tacks. so far they're looking good on the corkboard. a couple hundred more tacks oughta do it (it might take that much). cant wait to see what it looks like when its done.
chevy american revolution 400 kasey kahne won his first career race tonight in richmond va. he led the most laps tonight. ran away with the finish when they restarted after a caution with 8 laps to go. congrats to kasey.
dodge charger 500 greg biffle won the dodge charger 500, leading the most laps. even a green-white-checker finish AGAIN. the finish sure got exciting. this was the first saturday night race run in darlington in its 55 year history.
the national lacrosse league in edmonton the national lacrosse league has arrived in edmonton. the announcement was made this afternoon. a team name hasn't been decided yet. edmonton became the 11th team in the n.l.l. and will play out of rexall place. there are teams in san jose, rochester, toronto, calgary and arizona to name a few. edmonton will start play in january 2006. hmm must check out.
an interesting blue jay turnaround heres an interesting turnaround. the jays went 0-5 against the yankees and the orioles (0-2 against n.y. and 0-3 against baltimore) earlier this season. after tonights game (the jays play one more game tommorow to finish the 3 game set with baltimore), the jays are 4-1 against baltimore and new york. and the jays are 3-2 against boston. they gotta keep playing like this against those theee teams all season to stay near the top of the a.l. east.
aarons 499 jeff gordon has just won the aarons 499 in talladega today. won it leading the most laps and a green-white-checkers finish. that happens when theres a late caution. jeff gordon had the car today. next race is saturday night in darlington and the dodge charger 500.
good for a laugh here's one for a laugh. this is from the confused philosopher skit on the royal canadian air farce. "someone has to finish last in medical school. how do you know is not your doctor?" worth a laugh eh?
one confused computer this is one for the pages of wierd and confused. from the time i moved into my new place, my computer went wierd. i went from a cable hook-up to a phone hook-up (without the disruption of the pfone line). when i tried to surf the net or talk with katie on msn messenger, it would get stupid. (couldn't find server while surfing or messenger shutting down on its own). this was happening since thursday - at least till today. today i havent had any problems at all. it mysteriosly decided to behave itself and im puzzled by it. ( i think it was the threat of using a cable hookup). anyways. an interesting story
subway fresh 500 kurt busch won the first saturday night race of the season in dominating fashion, leading the most laps. i think he led 250 of 312 laps tonite. jimmie johnson still leads the points, while kurt busch moves into 2nd with the win. next race is the aaron's 499 in talladega on may 1.
moved in..... finally i am now officially moved into my new place. i'm starting to like it. got all my furniture in yesterday - except the hide-a-bed. that came in today. pics will be up soon - at least when i get a digital camera. soon enough. i'm a little sore. not as much as yesterday. i hope it goes well.
samsug radio shack 500 greg biffle won his 2nd race of the season in texas today. i missed this race because of human error of my own. i remember to get the race to tape THIS MORNING instead of doing it last night and had everything set up except to put the timer on. jimmie johnson still leads the points. next race in phoenix and the subway fresh 500 on saturday night. oh boy saturday night racing.
mobile box happening man have i been going today. started hauling some of the boxes to my new place after work today. i had a two-wheeler to help me out, and boy did it help. made 3 trips moving 13 boxes. 10 blocks there and 10 blocks back and now i am feeling it. its okay, its 13 less boxes to move later. plus laundry and sports stats on top of that. at least i get to settle down a bit.
baseball fun. yikes. geez, i feel like i've turned back the clock 12 years. the blue jays are winning - FINALLY (i hope this lasts all season). i'm really enjoying this. the jays are 6-2 this year AND leading the a.l. east. (wow i cant remember the last time that happened. short memory). i know it's only 8 games, but boy this is fun. 154 games to go. we'll see how this goes. one can only dream.
advanced auto parts 500 jeff gordon won the advanced auto parts 500 after coming back from 3 laps down earlier in the race. great job and great win - his 6th win in martinsville. next race in texas and the samsung radio shack 500.
a cool thing on mlb.com i discovered something new on mlb.com this season. it's called game mini. what you do is: 1. obviously go to mlb.com. 2. find a game in progress and click on the little diamond on it. when you click on the diamond the game in progress should come up. kinda like a virtual electronic view of the field. 3. on the top left side should say "game mine." what that does is shrinks the game to where you can still see what you're doing and still keep an eye on the game. give it a shot.
the move hype man have i ever packed a lot of boxes. its getting to the point where i have nowhere to put the boxes thats outside my room. i still have to keep walkspace to and from the bathroom and for my nerfball space. i can move my boxes to the new place once the rug is put in. need to get motoring quick. im excited to move. im almost bouncing off the walls. yikes, now thats a scary sight (and thought).
north carolina champions the north carolina tar heels are the 2005 ncaa champions. they defeated illinois 75-70. congrats to them.
full slate of afternoon baseball 10 afternooners to start the first full day of baseball. opening day was last night when the yankees beat the red sox 9-2. the chicago cubs and the arizona diamondbacks are still playing. the cubs lead 16-5 in the bottom of the 8th. all other games on www.mlb.com .
food city 500 this was some race at bristol. 14 cautions (i think, not sure though). kevin harvick won this wild one on the "fastest half-miler" in nascar. lots of cars hitting each other causing most of the cautions. one caution involved 14 cars, while another involved 7. the scariest one was when jimmie johnson bumped jeff burton and spinning him, sending burton into the inside wall. after he hit the wall, jeff burton slid back up the track. at the same time kurt busch was coming and wasnt expecting burton to slide back up. before they knew it, front to front meeting. they came out okay. good thing for the HANS device attached to the helmets and tethered to the seats. the HANS device its to keep the Head And Neck restrained incase of a head to head crash. anyways, theres bristol for ya. next week, another short track race. the advance auto parts 500 in martinsville.
illinois vs north carolina it will be illinois vs north carolina in the ncaa championship game. illinois beat louisville 72-57. north carolina just beat michigan state 87-71. the final is monday night. gonna be a good one
beginning of april its the start of april, and i can smell the baseball season already. season starts on sunday when the boston red sox visit the new york yankees. first time they meet (duh) since the a.l.c.s. when boston came back to beat the yankees 4 games to 3. the yankees make a return visit to boston with a threee game series starting april 11. that night is when the red sox get their world series rings and raise the world series banner. yay for baseball.
springy weather and end of march cant believe tomorrow is april already. final four continues saturday and ends monday. where has march gone. baseball preseason started, as well as march madness started. then there was the confused weather. march started out like a lamb and it looks like its out like a lamb as well. it started out nice, then winter paid a visit, then spring returned. and its supposed to go to 11c. it was 9c today. the snow is almost gone. yay.
major undertaking complete the olympic posters, emblems, torches and mascots are down. took me most of the evening and part of the afternoon to complete the task. thats one last headache that i don't have to worry about for the move at the april. (can't believe the day after tomorrow is april 1 already). one month to me moving. i cant wait.
the final four set the final four is now set. illinois and louisville will play one semi final (as mentioned yesterday), while north carolina will play michigan state. north carolina beat wisconsin 88-82 while michigan state beat kentucky 94-88 in overtime. i missed both games today. curses i had to work today. anyways the semi final games are saturday.
2 "final four" teams in illinois and louisville face each other in one of two games next saturday in st.louis. illinois came back from 15 points down to beat arizona in overtime 90-89. louisville made their way into the final four by beating west virginia 93-85 in overtime. so its louisville vs illinois (i think i said that already). tomorrow its north carolina vs wisconsin & michigan st. vs kentucky in the other two regional finals. the winners face each other next saturday in st.louis. the championship game is april 4 in st.louis.
an un-bee-lieveable sight youve heard of rain postponing a baseball game. but how about bees? yeah. a exhibition game between the colorado rockies and the arizona diamodbacks got called after 6 innings due to the bees that decided not to leave. arizona won 3-1. anyways, a "buzz"are sight.
mega pack job boy, do i ever have a lot of stuff packed. i might as well say it now. i am movig to another part of edmonton at the end of april. with the amount of stuff i have, it could take until the end of april to pack it all. good thing for head starts. and lots of boxes. i'll be happy when it's all over. cheaper rent where i'm moving to. it will be cheaper since i'm moving in with a friend of mine and i into the basement of my friends co-worker. him and i will be splitting $600. yay. it will all be good.
major snow boy did we get slammed with snow today. by now - im guessing - we got 10cm today and more to come overnight with flurries. supposed to clear tomorrow. its supposed to be SPRING?! at the rate were going, it'll be spring in may. at least the farmers are getting moisture.

march madness and movie night march madness starts thursday. well it kinda started tonight with a play-in game. thats when the winner gets into the ncaa basketball tournament. oakland beat alabama a&m 79-69. the real fun begins thursday. needless to say i'll be parked in front of the t.v. i wonder if katie follow the tournament. i went to a movie with a couple of friends from work last night. the movie we saw was "the pacifier" with vin diesel. for a guy who does lots of action movies, he did pretty good in this comedy.well worth it. (good thing yesterday was payday). two of us were off at 3 and 4 while the third was off. we went to dinner then the theatre to watch the movie then went home. it was fun. i need to do that more often.
uaw daimler chrysler 400 jimmie johnson won todays race in las vegas and even led the most laps. the home town busch brothers finished 2nd (kyle) and 3rd (kurt). next race is the golden corral 500 one week from today in atlanta.
springy weather great weather here. snow's almost gone - at least till this weekend. supposed to snow this weekend and a high of -1 on sunday. yeah its supposed to cool off too. i guess old man winter isn't dead yet. can't wait till its over. until then, gotta suck it up and live with it. oooo by the way, march madness starts a week from tomorrow. yipee.
me and leslie from what her email said today and from our conversation on friday, leslie MIGHT be coming in april. i am so looking forward to it. from what she said in her email today its looking okay. i hope it happens. we'd have so much fun. she's planning a 2 week vacation. i'm so excited. i just hope it happens. she'll let me know soon when exactly she'll be coming up. it'll be fun.

phew that was close boy did leslie and i survive a scare. i'll start by saying the last time prior to tonight that her and i talked or emailed was sunday the 20th. i emailed her a few times since. she's been working her butt of to save up money to come up and see me. while we were talking tonight, i told her how i felt lonely without her and how frustrated i was that we hardly spoke. she felt the same way. this was probably the closest we came to breaking up without breaking up. i still love her. i still want her to be happy. but, boy that was close.
another olympic anniversary 3 years ago today - gold medal game. canada 5 u.s. 2 in mens hockey. wow. man how time flies. can you believe it. yikes
a realization i realized something today. 3 years ago yesterday the womens olympic hockey team won gold in salt lake with the score of 3-2 over the u.s. i didn't even think about it until this afternoon. yikes.
a reminder to remember i got a reminder to remember yesterday from a google alert 9thanks darren for the suggestion). yesterday's tara lipinski google alert was an anniversary of sorts. 7 years ago yesterday tara lipinski won gold in nagano and i didn't realize it until i read the google alert. it ws a realization of "hey i remember that." a reminder to remember.
the 47th daytona 500 some finish to this race. 4 lead changes in the last 9 races, a green-white-checkered finish, and white knuckled time the last 2 laps. yikes. jeff gordon won his 3rd daytona 500. the finish alone was worth watching it. and even had the usual "BIG ONE" - well a scaled down version. the "BIG ONE" is a multi-car crash. anyways, a hell of a finish to this race. next race - the auto club 500 in fontana, california.
hours away from daytona can't wait till the daytona 500 starts. gonna be a good one too. close racing from green flag to checkered flag. until then, gotta wait. hmmm what can i do? think about leslie, my new girlfriend.

budweiser shootout jimmie johnson has just won the budweiser shootout to begin speedweeks in daytona. the twin 150's is thursday afternoon and the daytona 500 is a week tomorrow. as darrell waltrip would say (at least to start the race and in this case the season) BOOGITY, BOOGITY, BOOGITY.
Image
a need for baseball? indeed. this was taken this past saturday. heck i wasn't cold - even if it was -15 at the time.
one year to torino 2006 can you believe it? one year to the torino 2006 winter games. geez, don't seem that long ago the 2002 salt lake winter games happened. even the athens summer games seemed like yesterday. cant wait. the salt lake games was fun. of course the trip to saskatchewan helped the cause. remember that trip, darren? it was fun wasn't it.
super bowl xxxix the new england patriots have won their 3rd super bowl in four years with a 24-21 win over the philadelphia eagles earlier tonight in jacksonville. dieon branch was named super bowl m.v.p. he tied a super bowl record with 11 receptions and gained 133 yards on those receptions. next year super bowl xl in detroit.
end of spring! dammit. it was a nice and short visit by spring, but winter has to make one last kick at the cat here. by this weekend it will be back to seasonal (if you call -11 seasonal) and some snow. man, and we were doing so well getting rid of the snow. oh well farmers need all the moisture they can get. that and the potential of forest fires stay down during the summer. oh yeah, this weekend marks chinese new year. so happy new year there. for that, darren, i hope your happy.
first of february... ...means the beginning of the short month. lots happening this month. super bowl 39 on sunday, daytona 500 on the 20th (CAN'T WAIT), the beginning of baseball spring training with pitchers and catchers reporting to spring training facilities in florida and arizona. it's gonna be fun.
end of january already? geez, can't believe tomorrow is february already. is seems like yesterday the world was ringing in the new year and now its almost february. and it was such a gorgeous day today too. got up to 8c today and its supposed to get that high tomorrow and 10c wednesday (my day off too ha ha). feels like spring. winter's not over yet.
a "fog"gy day - literally and figuratively talk about being in a fog. it felt like such a blur, i cant remember what happened - except that it was busy. i leave work it was foggy outside too. claire martin used the word "murky." either way i felt like i was in a fog. go figure.
new england vs philadelphia its the patriots vs the eagles in super bowl 39 on feb. 6. new england beat pittsburgh 41-27 while philly beat atlanta 27-10 yesterday. can't wait. all the junk food and pop you can have. it'll be a superbowl xxxix party for sure.
scary sight at rexall place a scary sight at rexall place last night between the edmonton read runners and the manitoba moose. jaret stoll of edmonton trying to take out a manitoba player and as he fell on the ice, the manitoba player inadvertenly stepped on stolly's calf. and boy did stolly realize it right away. his leg was a mess. don't know how bad it really got, but that motivated the rest of the road runners as the snapped a 6 game losing streak by winning 3-1. i think that was manitobas 4th road loss.
nfl playoffs and darren's 30th b-day today is darrens 30th birthday. i guess it was yesterday for him, with him being in china et al. it's all down hill from here, pal. i should know. its philadelphia and atlanta for the nfc championship next week. philly beat minnesota 27-14 today and atlanta beat st.louis yesterday 47-17. in the afc, its pittsburgh and new england for that championship. pittsburgh beat new york (the J-E-T-S, JETS! JETS! JETS! sorry, i had to do that) in overtime 20-17 yesterday. today new england beat indianapolis 20-3. more news on www.nfl.com .
