USA takes group B

The USA put the finishing touches of a 4-0 win over Sweden. Russia is second and Sweden third. The US has shut out their opponents the last three games. Yikes. The quarterfinals has: Canada vs Czech Republic, USA vs Slovakia, Finland vs Sweden and Germany vs Russia. All quarterfinals are on Saturday.

Canada wins group A.

Canada just beat Finland 4-1 to take group A.  I believe they will play Czech Republic in the quarterfinals on Saturday.  Rest of the quarterfinals will be decided in the USA vs Sweden game.  Update after that game.

Czech Republic vs Austria

This wasn't in doubt. It was scoreless after one.  The Czechs then ended up winning 7-0.  They will finish 4th in group B and will face either Canada or Finland in the quarterfinals. That game starts at 5pm Prince Albert time.

A thriller that end streak.

Sweden had a streak of 54 straight wins in preliminary round.  Key word is HAD. Because Russia put an end to the streak with a 4-3 win in overtime. They won it with five seconds to go. Sweden last lost on New year's Eve 2006 to the USA in a shootout. Russia is on top of group B with 8 points (they are done their preliminary round), Sweden with 7, USA with 6 and Czech Republic with 3. Tomorrow has Czech Republic vs Austria, Canada vs Finland and Sweden vs USA.  That's it until tomorrow.

A tight finish.

Boy this got close. Germany was up 4-0 after two periods and hung on to win 5-4 over Switzerland.  Switzerland is out (and no relegation this year), and Germany finishes third in group A.  Earlier Finland beat Slovakia 6-0. Slovakia finishes fourth and Finland plays Canada tomorrow to decide group A.  I will do a group B update after the Russia vs Sweden game, considering that is the only group B game.

Night 5 done

Russia just beat Austria 7-1.  Earlier in group B, the U.S beat the Czech Republic 7-0.  Sweden still leads with six points in two games. Russia and the United States each have six points in three games. Russia takes second due to beating the United States already. Tomorrow has Finland vs Slovakia, Switzerland vs Germany and Russia vs Sweden. Quarter final spots up for grabs.

A Swiss cheese blowout

This wasn't much of a game.  It was close after the first, but Canada ended up beating Switzerland 10-0.  They lead group A with 9 points.  Group B I will update after the Austria vs Russia game.

Night 4 done

Quite the night cap to finish.  Germany beat Slovakia in overtime 4-3.  I think they also got most of their lineup back.  Canada and Finland still lead group A with 6 pts, Slovakia with 4 after the OT loss, Germany now has two and Switzerland with none.  Earlier Sweden beat Austria 4-0. They now have six pts, the U.S, Russia and Czech Republic have three and Austria with none.  Tomorrow has USA vs Czech Republic, Canada vs Switzerland and Sweden vs Russia.

Award winning soccer player

Christine Sinclair has won the Bobbie Rosenfeld award as CP female athlete of the year.  I think great choice. Broke the record for most international goals at 185.  Has had an outstanding career not only for Canada, but for womens soccer in general.

Nail biter to close out night 3

This one had the Czech Republic beat Russia 2-0. Wow.  The Czechs, Russia and the United States sit at a win and a loss and 3 points, Sweden has 3 points and a win.  Austria has one loss.  Tomorrow has Austria vs Sweden and Slovakia vs Germany.  That's it for tonight.

A close one tonight

Canada hung on to beat Slovakia 3-1 to go to two wins in two games.  The Slovakia goalie stood on his head tonight.  Canada and Finland each have 6 points. Finland beat Switzerland 4-1. Earlier.  Czech Republic vs Russia in an hour in the only group B game.  Stay tuned.

Night 2 blowout fest

The U.S just blew Austria out 11-0 to even their record at a win and a loss and 3 points.  First game of the day had Sweden beat Czech Republic 7-1. They are tied with Russia with three points (one less loss than the u.s.). Czech Republic and Austria with nothing.  Tomorrow has Switzerland vs Finland, Canada vs Slovakia and Russia vs Czech Republic.  Until then, cheers.

Boxing day blitz

Wow this was a blitz alright.  Game just ended and Canada blew out Germany 16-2. (You read that right). Canada, Finland and Slovakia sit atop group A with three points each. Switzerland has one loss and Germany now has two losses. Not sure if Germany had a full lineup or not.  I will do a group B update after the U.S vs Austria game.

Night 1 of World Juniors done

First night of the World Juniors is finished.  Group A had Finland beat an undermanned Germany 5-3 while Slovakia beat Switzerland 1-0.  Finland and Slovakia each have three points.  One game in group B and it ended not that long ago. Russia hung on to beat the United States 5-3. The Russians had a 4-1 lead going into the 3rd period.  Tomorrow Canada plays their first game against Germany in the lone group A game. 5pm start Prince Albert time.  Group B games has the Czech Republic vs Sweden and Austria vs the United States.

A heck of a game for a couple of Saints

First Saints player is Alvin Kamara as he tied an NFL record for most touchdowns with 6, tying Gale Sayers.  Second Saints player is Drew Brees as he has now throw for 80,000+ yards on his career.  I think that is the highest ever.  I may be wrong on this.  Saints beat the Vikings 52-33.

A wonderful Christmas Eve

What a great Christmas Eve.  Went to Dad's and step moms place for Christmas dinner. Open presents with the rest of the family over zoom chat which was neat.  Also got to chat with my sister on the phone. A great Christmas Eve.  Gonna chill quietly tomorrow.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to all here.  I hope it's good.  Stay safe out there, no need to get sick with this pandemic. Cheers.🎄🎅🤶🎀🎁

Pre tournament game

In their only pre tournament game, Canada beat Russia 1-0 in a very good one.  Canada opens the World Juniors Saturday against Germany at 5pm Prince Albert time.  Should be a fun tournament.

Sked is out.

The NHL schedule is out. Loads of back to back games with each team within their own division. Makes sense considering one doesn't want the covid 19 virus getting around.  The Canadian division will play each other 9 or 10 times. The other three divisions will face each other 8 times. With the world juniors starting in a couple of days, it's nice to have hockey back.

Winter has arrived - officially

At 4:02 am today, the winter solstice has arrived. Today marks the shortest day of the year in terms of daylight hours, meaning we now start getting more daylight. Although winter already made an appearance with a big dump of snow last month and has gotten cold a couple of times. Christmas day is in four days.

We have NHL hockey - tentatively

The NHL and NHLPA have tentatively agreed to play a 56 game season, scheduled to start January 13.  Both the owners and players have to vote on this.  I think they will.  Teams will likely be playing within their division only.  What the schedule will look like and how and where the games be played still needs to be figured out.

Some throw back Thursday

A little throw back Thursday for you. The first Olympic champion at the first winter Olympics in 1924 in Chamonix is Charles Jewtraw of the United States.  He won the first winter Olympics gold in the 500m speedskating event.  He won with a time of 44.0 seconds. Silver went out Oskar Olsen of Norway with a time of 44.2 seconds. The bronze went to Roald Larsen of Norway AND Clas Thunberg of Finland. They both got the time of 44.8 seconds. So there you go.

Ya know it's chilly when...

....you decide to go outside to take a couple of pictures of the street (one from the North and South) without a jacket on and it's -17c out. Probably not the best idea but I did it. Now I have to figure out how to post pics on this site from my phone.

A quiet evening.

Been up in the living room playing some Christmas tunes and a Dave and Morley story tonight.  Got the lights on the tree glowing as well.  Pretty neat evening.  Time for another Dave and Morley story.

It's chilly out

Went out to shovel, and didn't last because there wasn't much to shovel.  It's -23c out.  I'm sure we're about to pay for the nice weather we had.  There's a real good chance of a white Christmas assuming the cold stays long enough.  Ahhh yes ahhh yes.

It was nice while it lasted

It sure has been nice the last week and a half.  The cool off is coming. -5c tomorrow and -6c Saturday.  Sunday will really get chilly with -15c for a high and I think -17c Monday and Tuesday. It was bound to come back at some point. Joys of living in Canada.

Dual Lou Marsh trophy winners

Alphonso Davies, Canada's top soccer player playing for Bayern Munich and super bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif are co-winners of the Lou Marsh trophy. Wow this is great. They each got 18 votes.  Last tie was in 1983 when Wayne Gretzky and i forget who. Congrats.

Busy Sunday

Oh boy a busy Sunday. Started by painting the kitchen walls, which took three and a half hours. Cleaned the paint brush, two rollers and the tray, which was about 5-10 minutes.  Also tallied up the NFL early games.  Just got out of the shower.  Now I chill.

On this day

On this day in 1909, the Toronto Varsity Blues beat the Toronto Parkdales 26-6 in the first Grey Cup game.  There had been Dominion Championship games since 1884, but this was the first to award a trophy.  It was the Varsity Blues third championship and fifth appearance, while it was Parkdale's first appearance.

End of November already.

End of the month has arrived.  Felt like it took forever to get here, yet it's here now.  Chase Elliott won his first Nascar championship, NFL been going on getting through rescheduled games thanks to one or two teams getting covid 19, hockey trying to return (some are going and others got suspended), and Saskatchewan got a serious dump of snow. December will fly by like it usually does. Christmas has that effect.

A month to Christmas

Yiye.  A month to Christmas already.  Tomorrow is Thanksgiving state side.  World juniors is scheduled to start Christmas day.  Hard to say if it will be held.  December isn't that far away.  Who knows how the next month will go.

It should be Grey Cup night

I should be listening to the Grey Cup.  Instead I've seen a lot of other Grey Cup memories and I am realizing how bad I miss the CFL.  How bad I miss being at a CFL game.  How bad I miss interacting with other fans, the players and the cheer team.  I just want to be in a CFL stadium to watch a game. I hate covid 19.

Hmmm

While coming home from my dad and stepmoms place (celebrating her birthday early), I noticed a few houses had their Christmas lights on. Got the idea I should get some shots of houses with their Christmas lights on.  With the snow on the ground already, it might be a good idea to do so.  Nice way to spend a few evenings.

Rememberance day

On this day, thank those who are serving now, thank those who have served, and honor those veterans who are not alive and died during the wars.

A medal upgrade

Tammara Thibeault left the Lima Pan American Games with a bronze.  Few months back she was told she would be upgraded to a silver.  Today she got her silver. The woman she lost to in the semis had her medal revoked after a lengthy doping investigation.  Doesn't pay to cheat.

A snowy weekend

Wow a lot of Saskatchewan got slammed with snow.  Prince Albert got 35cm, while Swift Current and Moose Jaw got between 40 and 50 cm.  Add some wind and there were some serious drifts.  The roads are junk. Oh yeah there are some civic elections happening.  Swift Current and I think Saskatoon had to move theirs for Friday.  Eep.  How was your weekend?

Thursday afternoon musings

It's been a week.  Gained back all the weight I lost. (Fell of that horse hard). Meanwhile it has been a nice week. Went to check the mail and there was a chill today.  Supposed to get a bunch of snow this weekend. 10 to 15cm Saturday, 15 to 20cm Sunday, and 1cm Monday morning.  Monday is the city election.  That ought to be fun.

End of October already.

Shit Halloween is here already.  May be some munchkins running around in costumes (wherever safe).  Also a full moon tonight (blue moon as well).  Also the weekend where clocks get turned back an hour tonight. Unless you're somewhere where you don't have to. (Certain advantages of living in Saskatchewan).  To think Christmas stuff will be in stores.  Some stores have them out already.  So that's the weekend.

Friday night musings

I think winter is here.  Not snowing much now.  There's barely any on the ground now. Plus it's windy out to.   Possibly more snow to come overnight from what I heard.  I may be shoveling tomorrow.

Dodgers world series Champions

The L.A Dodgers are world series Champions as they beat Tampa Bay 3-1 in game 6 and the series 4 games to 2.  Their first championship since 1988 and seventh overall (1955, 1959, 1963, 1965, 1981, 1988 and 2020). Congrats.

2021 world juniors sked out

The schedule for the 2021 world junior hockey tournament and for the first time since 2005, it will begin on Christmas Day.  It will be held in Edmonton only, doing the bubble thing like the NHL playoffs. Canada will play its first game on boxing Day against Germany. All their round robin games begin at 4pm Edmonton time, 5pm Prince Albert time.

Dodgers end Braves.

It will be the Dodgers and the Rays for the world series. The Dodgers came back from three games to one down to beat Atlanta.  World series starts Tuesday night.

Rays hang on, go to world series

Boy did the Tampa Bay Rays get away with this series.  Went up 3-0 in games only to have Houston tie the series at three.  Tampa Bay wins game 7 4-2 and will await the outcome of the Dodgers/Braves series. That series has a game seven tomorrow night. Joys of postseason baseball.

So the Dodgers did this....

In a 15-3 win over Atlanta, the Dodgers did:. 1. Tied a postseason record for most batters in an inning with 14 in the 1st.  2.  Set postseason record with runs in an inning with 11.  3.set Dodgers records with home runs (5) and runs (15) in a game.  And 4. First time 3 home runs recorded in a first inning.  That was a good night.

Rays zap Yankees

This went the full five, but the Rays will face the Astros in the ALCS after knocking out the Yankees tonight.  The ALCS starts Sunday.

This series wasn't in doubt as the Dodgers own the Padres in a three game sweep and will face the Braves in the NLCS starting Monday.

Astros has A's take off

The Houston Astros are into the ALCS after knocking off the Oakland A's in four games.  They will get either the Yankees or the Rays. We may know tonight.  The Astros are: 1. The third A.L. team to reach the ALCS in four straight seasons (the A's from 1971-75 and Yankees from 1998-2001), and 2. They are the only sub .500 team to reach an LCS.

Braves reel in Marlins

The Atlanta Braves are into the NLCS after putting the finishing touches of a dominating three game sweep of the Miami Marlins.  They will get either L.A. or San Diego.  We may know tonight.

145th Preakness stakes

The 145th annual race was won by Swiss Skydiver with a winning time of 1:53.28.  Robby Albarado was winning jockey and Kenneth McPeek winning trainer.  No triple Crown this year. Hopefully next year back to normal schedule.

The Tampa Bay Lightning are Stanley Cup champions after beating Dallas 2-0 in game 6 and the series 4-2.  Congrats to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Post season baseball is upon us

Post season baseball begins Tuesday.  Here are the match ups: in the A.L., Toronto faces Tampa Bay, Chicago faces Oakland, Houston faces Minnesota and the Yankees face Cleveland.  In the N.L., Milwaukee faces Los Angeles, Cincinnati faces Atlanta, Miami faces the Cubs and St Louis faces San Diego. This is the first time (and possibly the only time) the playoffs was expanded. The wild card round is a best of 3 series.

Yesterday was.....

The first day of fall.  It began at 7:33 am.  Although with the leaves changing colors, I think it began early.  I think it unofficially began once the Labor Day weekend ended.  Winter isn't far behind.

500 days to go

Yup.  That far away from the 2022 winter Olympics in Beijing.  That far away from ski runs, snowboarding, hockey, curling and other sports, medals won and possibly world records.

Pujols is 5th.

With two home runs, Albert Pujols has passed Willie Mays for fifth on the home runs list.  He now has 662.

Lighting bolts Islanders.

This series also finished in overtime. Tampa Bay is going to play Dallas for the Stanley Cup after beating the Islanders 4 games to 2.  Stanley Cup schedule TBA.

On this day

On this day in 1975, Rick Stennett of the Pittsburgh Pirates became the first, and only, player to go 7 for 7 as the Pirates beat the Chicago Cubs 22-0.  Wow. An amazing day. Thanks to 70s baseball on twitter for the stat.

Stars to Stanley Cup

The Dallas Stars are going to the Stanley Cup finals after they eliminated Vegas in overtime in game 5 and the series 4-1.  They get Tampa Bay or the Islanders. That series could be over tomorrow.

No hitter #2

Alec Mills threw 5 strike outs and allowed 3 walks as he and the Chicago Cubs no hit the Milwaukee Brewers. Final score was 12-0. Congrats 👏.

Back at it

Back to work finally.  Got hired by the brick Thursday and had orientation Friday.  Monday is when I really get going.  Will be in the warehouse.  Maybe I can start losing my gut at the same time.  Good to be working again.

Labor day Monday

A good day today.  Put two coats of paint in the spare room, let it dry, took off the edging tape, put the plug in plates up, cleaned the room up, put curtains up put a bed in and vacuumed the living room. Good way to waste a Monday.

Labor Day weekend

It's the Labor Day weekend. Semi nice day yesterday, and today had been shitty with it raining off and on.  Not sure about tomorrow, but I will be doing some painting tomorrow.  Only thing that sucks is that there is no CFL football (damn pandemic). Really missing it.  Not sure about the kids going back to school.  Not much else.

Isles fly past Philadelphia

The Islanders are in the eastern conference finals after shutting out Philadelphia 4-0 in game 7. Them and Tampa Bay should be good.  All conference finals games will be in Edmonton.

146th Kentucky Derby

Chilly end to August

Ho boy it's chilly out.  And windy.  Fall is definitely here.  11c out now.  Leaves are turning color too.  Yup world series weather is upon us.  What a way to end August.

Today in 1959

On this day in 1959, Nellie Fox of the Chicago White Sox set a record of 98 consecutive games without striking out.  Wow that is an impressive streak.

First no hitter of season

Lucas Giolito threw 101 pitches, gave up a walk and had 13 strike outs as he no hits the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Chicago White Sox win 4-0.  Wow.  Remarkable.  Congrats.

104th Indianapolis 500

Has it been 16 years?

It has been 16 years since the opening ceremonies of the Athens summer Olympics. My god how time has flown. 16 days of magical memories. Canada won 12 medals that year (3g, 6s and 3b).

Columbus has beaten Toronto 3-0 in game 5 and will face Tampa Bay. Next round will start Tuesday or Wednesday.

What a great weekend

What a great long weekend. Had a great time at Emma Lake. Went on a good boat ride, celebrated my birthday on Sunday. Also got to celebrate my sister's and stepbrother's birthday from the previous Monday. Was also good to get off of the Internet for a couple of days. Glad I got to see the family.

Beginning of August

Wow August 1st already. Already shaping up to be good. NHL playoffs begin today in Toronto and Edmonton and there are 5 games today: Montreal vs Pittsburgh, NY Rangers vs Carolina, Florida vs NY Islanders, Winnipeg vs Calgary, and Chicago vs Edmonton. It is also the long weekend here as Monday is a holiday. Tomorrow is my birthday. I am heading for the lake in a couple of hours. Already fun.

Meet the Canadian Olympic cycling team

13 track cyclists and 4 road cyclists will be in Tokyo this time next year. The track cyclists are: Hugo Barrette, Allison Beveridge, Ariane Bonhomme, Vincent Dehaitre, Jasmine Duehring, Annie Foreman-Mackey, Derek Gee, Lauriane Genest, Jay Lamoureax, Kelsey Mitchell, Georgia Simmerling, and Nick Wammes. The road team has: Karon-Anne Canuel, Hugo Houle, Leah Kirchmann, and Mike Woods. Hopefully more to come soon.

Would have been today

Today would have been the start of the summer games. Cauldron would have been lit, parade of nations would have happened and opening ceremonies would have been quite a spectacle. As much as I wanted these games to go, it was a good call to move them a year. I feel bad for the athletes who now have to wait a year to compete. An extra year to train.

Mlb under way

Opening day (finally) has arrived. Yankees beat the Nationals 4-1 and the Dodgers lead the Giants 6-1 in the 8th inning. Rest of the league starts tomorrow.

One year to go. Again.

We are one year away from the Tokyo Summer Olympics. Again. Hopefully this time next year we will have watched the opening ceremonies. Hopefully they go off.

On this day in 1976

Canada won its first medal on home soil as the womens 4X100m won a bronze in the pool in the medley. Susan Sloan, Robin Corsiglia, Wendy Hogg , and Anne Jardin won the bronze at the Montreal Olympics. Corsiglia wad the youngest Canadian to win a medal at 13 years old.

Hockey returns

It's official. The board of governers and the NHLPA have ratified a CBA extension to the end of the 2025-26 season AND has chosen Edmonton and Toronto as hub cities for this years playoffs. Summer training starts Monday and the post season starts August 1. Hopefully some CFL football soon.

Belmont Stakes (was run last month. Just discovered this)

I honestly saw this looking for when the triple crown was rescheduled. Belmont Stakes was moved to June 20th. The race 2as shortened to 1 1/8 miles. Tiz the Law won the race in 1:46.53. Manny Franco was winning jockey (his first in Belmont). Barclay Tagged was winning - and oldest winning trainer at 82. Kentucky Derby is on September 5th.

MLB sked out

The baseball schedule is now out. Season opens on the 23rd featuring the Yankees visiting the Nationals as their world series banner goes up, followed by the Giants at the Dodgers. Play ball

Busy Saturday

Geez ended up a busy Saturday. Ended up showering, started my laundry, had my second load into the dryer and put first load in my room before going to mow three lawns, had lunch with dad, came home and showered again. I don't smell like grass now. Not going to do much now.

Happy 4th of July.

Happy 4th of July to all my friends in the U.S. Stay safe out there.

Happy Canada Day

Happy Canada Day to all my fellow Canadians eh. Too bad there won't be much for fireworks (stupid pandemic). Best time of the year to wear red. Enjoy the day ya hosers (Bob and Doug McKenzie).

End of June

Wow end of June already. Nascar is back up and going again. NBA scheduled to return August 1st. Nhl supposed to announce hub cities any day now. Mlb supposed to start spring training tomorrow but who knows. We'll see how July shakes out.

A chill day

A dull cloudy day. Got Magnum P.I on DVD now. Also have Bonanza, Seinfeld and the Flintstones as well. To think tomorrow ends June.

Out and about

Decided to go for a walk. Got a little bit wet as its been drizzly and rainy all day. Overall pretty misty. Tried to punch a cloud but I mist.

6 into hockey hall of fame

Six new members have joined the Hockey Hall of Fame. They include Kim St. Pierre, Kevin Lowe, Jarome Iginla, Doug Wilson, Marian Hossa and Ken Holland. Well deserved honors.

Baseball returning

Baseball is returning. Players will report to training camp July 1st with a 60 game schedule starting on the 23rd or 24th. 60 game schedule will have a team play the other 4 teams in their division (for 40 total) and the other leagues geographical division for 20 games (ex. A.L east vs N.L. east). Postseason is unchanged from previous years.

Happy summer solstice

Summer begins at 3:43pm Prince Albert time. Also marks the longest day of the year in terms of daylight hours. Also dad's day tomorrow as well as national indigenous day. A good weekend. Now if the sun would show up.

On this day x2

1. In 2003, Reed Johnson of the Toronto Blue Jays became the 4th MLB player to lead of the game and end the game with a home run (Billy Williams - 1893, Vic Power - 1957 and Darin Erstad in 2000 were the first 3). Ian Kinsler (2009) and Chris Young (2010) have since done it. 2. In 1925 in Philadelphia, the A's were trailing Cleveland 15-4 heading into the bottom of the 8th inning. They then proceed to score 13 runs to win 17-15. Wow.

Boredom

Not much for content with no sports going on (stupid COVID -19). Although baseball in South Korea began and even had a game filled with stuffed animals. Some soccer matches in Europe played in empty stadiums. Phase 3 of the NHL reopening has training camps scheduled for July 20th. Oh yeah Dock Ellis threw a no hitter on this day in 1970.

On this day

On this day in 1959, Rocky Colavito of the Cleveland Indians hit 4 consecutive home runs in a game against the Baltimore Orioles. Cleveland won 11-8 in Baltimore. Colavito joined Lou Gehrig and Bobby Lowe for hitting 4 consecutive home runs.

Rainy weekend

Rainy weekend here so far. Managed to get two lawns cut before the rain came. Was rainy Wednesday and Thursday as well. Listening to Randy Bachman's vinyl tap. Fun times.

Good last weekend of May.

Was a good weekend. Nice way to cap off May. Today I finished off sanding off the wood flooring in the living room next door. Watched dad put a coat of verathane on that floor. As it dried up, dad and I put up a shower curtain rod, then mowed two lawns, came back to see dad put on a second coat of verathane. This after yesterday I stained the last of the fence and gaps, mowed two lawns (one was mine), put down wood chips and did my laundry. I think next door is very close to finished being renovated. Good bye May.

Hockey returning

Hockey will be back. In a 29-2 vote, the 2020 Stanley Cup playoffs will be starting in July. Training camps start no earlier than July 1. Two "hub cities" will be chosen at some point. Some firm of sanity is coming back. Slowly but surely. Thanks to Devin Heroux for the updates.

Fun fact.

On this day in 1980 in Tokyo, location testing for a game began and got positive reviews. This game was released in Japan that July and North America that December. That game - Pac-Man. The ghost munching dot eating yellow head is 40 years old. Billy Mitchell was credited and claimed to have been the first to achieve a perfect score (3,333,360 points). 7 players have since gotten said perfect score. Happy birthday Pac-Man.

A good and interesting 24 hours

Had a pretty good thunder storm last night and it sounds like more now (my radio is crackling and I looked outside a few minutes ago and saw dark clouds). Good thing I went for a good long walk. 26k later. Walked the entire rotary trail. Now I'm doing as little as possible.

Serving to olympics

Jeremy Hazin will be going to Tokyo. He will be serving up some table tennis on the mens side. Yay.

3 more going to Tokyo

Three more added to the Olympic team. Evan Dunfee in the 50k walk, Dayna Pidhoresky in women's marathon and Trevor Hofbauer in mens marathon. Tokyo Olympics are next summer.

Of course it did that.

Of course it snowed today. Because it's May. Not sure how much we got here because half of it already melted. I suppose the moisture is needed. Keeps the grass, trees and gardens fed and cleans the roads a bit. Spring in Canada - what else do you expect.

Lazy Friday night to begin May.

Cooler day today. Didn't do too much. Just finished watching the last episode of season 1 of Magnum P.I. I have the whole series. 7 more seasons and 141 episodes to go lol. Still waiting for season 9 of Bonanza to show up so I can watch that and season 10 of that series. Gonna be fun.

End of April already.

Wow end of April already. April flew by. Compared that with March where it felt like it took 3 years to get through. Last couple of days were real nice. Spent the last day and a half painting base boards. Got a bit red on my right arm yet my left one wasn't as red. I think the back of my neck is red, can't tell. Feels like it though. We'll see how May ends up.

It's nice out.

13c and it's 12:30 pm. Most of the snow is gone. Most of the raking is done. Just got to wait for the snow in the back yard to disappear so I can rake that. Pumpkin patch is cleaned out. Won't be long before the lawnmower is brought out. There is still some ice on the river. (Had a peek at it). Good bye snow.

Springy springy

Oh boy spring is here. Last couple of days the snow has been melting. Got to 9c yesterday. On Saturday a city crew ended up uncovering a drain I didn't know was there. (My dad didn't know either). The lake of a puddle did drain after a couple of hours. Yesterday another one formed. Not sure if drain is plugged again. (I assume so). The piles of snow that was here last week isn't so big now. Almost time to pull the rake out and rake the yard out. At least after the snow has disappeared and the ground has dried up.

Spring has shown up - hopefully for good

It's finally been warming up the last few days. Got to 8c today. Snow is finally melting. Back alley has a swimming pool sized puddle. Could use hip waiters to walk through puddle. It's also been good walking weather. We're all sick of winter.

Happy Easter

Happy Easter weekend to everyone. I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend despite the bull that's going on. And loads of chocolate 😁.

Today was. .......

Was supposed to be the first night of the NHL playoffs. Tonight was supposed to be the start of the two month marathon to the Stanley Cup final. Who knows if this season will resume. The Ontario league, the Quebec league and the Western league all cancelled their seasons. First time in the 102 year existence of the Memorial Cup, it won't be contested. Yiye. Don't know what to do.

Summer games scheduled

The Tokyo summer games next year will be scheduled for July 23rd to August 8th. Hopefully the qualifying will continue.

Summer games postponed a year

This years summer games in Tokyo have been postponed to next summer. They will be held no later than the summer of 2021. No surprise really. Dates of the games will be announced at a later date. Pretty sure that Canada and Australia pulling out had an influence as well as other nations threatening to pull out if they didn't postpone.

This just in

From Piya Chattopadhyay: Canada will not be sending a team to Tokyo for the games due to the COVID-19 virus. Understandable move. Hopefully the games get delayed.

The official start of spring

Spring starts at 9:57pm Mountain time (which Prince Albert and Saskatchewan is in). First full day is tomorrow. It's -14c at the moment and is supposed to warm up over the weekend and stay warmed up (hopefully). Time for the snow to start melting.

Happy St. Patrick's day

That time of year where everyone wears green, or tries to. Green beer served at bars (if they're still open), green river in Chicago and St. Patrick's day parades, if there were any. Stay safe out there.

Two more wrestle into Olympics

Yup two more are going. Jordan Steen and Amar Dhesi won their respective classes and will be going to Tokyo. Nice.

Add another one

This time it's Danielle Lapagge of Olds Alberta winning the 68kg class. She will be going to her second games.

Wrestling to the Olympics

Erica Wiebe is going back to the Olympics after winning the 75kg class event. She is the defending Olympic champion in this event.

Man this is serious

NHL just got suspended. NBA suspended last night. Junos canceled. Leagues everywhere else suspended or cancelled. Some Olympic qualifications moved or cancelled. This Corona virus is an absolute pain in the ass. Anyone who thinks this is a joke needs to get their heads examined. Don't need to have this spread anymore than it has.

Serving to olympics again

Mo Zhang and Eugene Wang got another Olympic spot in the mixed team event. This after they each claimed a spot - MO in the ladies event and Eugene in the mens event. Excellent.

Brier goes on the Rock

Brad Gushue and his team from Newfoundland and Labrador beat Team Bottcher of Alberta 7-3 and will represent Canada at the worlds later this month and at next years Brier. This tournament had great shots, very good games and even a 4 way tie breaker. And that's another Brier.

Serving to the Olympics

Mo Zhang and Eugene Wang each qualified for the Tokyo olympics in table tennis. Couple of Canadians now in serve.

Wall climbing to olympics

Allana Yip will be going to Tokyo after she qualified in wall climbing - a new Olympic sport. Nice.

Volleyballing to paralympics

Canada's sitting volleyball team will be going to the paralympics at winning their tournament and going undefeated. Nice.

Geez end of February already

End of February is here. And a leap day as well. Let's see what happened. Spring training baseball begun, the Brier began last night with Mike McKewan beating Glenn Howard in the wild card game, Kerri Einarson winning the Scotties tournament, Kansas City Chiefs winning the super bowl, NASCAR began and loads of NHL hockey. Canada picked up a few Olympic spots as well. Not bad for such a short month.

Random thoughts

Although it's been a cool -9c day today, it was spring like the last two days an is supposed to warm up again to above 0. Melt some more snow. This time last year it was freaking cold all of February and into the first part of March. I will take the nicer weather any time. It helps that spring training baseball has begun. Aaaaahhhh baseball. Season starts March 26th. Rewatched inning 1 of Ken Burns baseball documentary on the history of the game. Plus the Brier starts Friday. I wonder how insane that will get given what happened at the Scotties. Maybe we can ask Devin Heroux. More later.

Two Olympic spots claimed over the weekend.

Yup two more nabbed. Both the mens and womens fencing teams each nabbed one in the foil event. Can July get here soon enough? I wish.

Scotties final

Kerri Einarson gas won her first Scotties final and Manitoba's 11th as the beat Rachel Homan 8-7 in an extra end. Wow. Einarson and her team will be representing Canada at the worlds next month and at next years Scotties.

Scotties history

New Brunswick scored 7 (yes 7) in the 7th end to beat Manitoba 13-7. The 7 is the highest scoring end with the hammer (last shot). This after there were 68 points scored in the evening draw over the weekend (4 games). Thanks to Devin Heroux for the info.

Scotties making history

The Nova Scotia women's curling team will be making history when Emma Jones becomes the first deaf player to play in the Scotties tournament of hearts. Not sure if Nova Scotia is playing in the wild card game Friday (?) but yeah that is happening.

Hockey day in Canada

The 20th edition just wrapped up with Calgary beating Vancouver 6-2. Earlier Montreal beat Toronto in overtime 2-1, Winnipeg beating Ottawa 5-2 and Edmonton beating Nashville 3-2. Yellowknife was host of the day this year. Don't know where it is next year.

Canada bounces to olympics

With a 80-50 win over Sweden, Canada's women's basketball team had punched their ticket to the summer olympics. Woohoo. A great weekend for women's sports. Thanks to Devin Heroux for his updates on this game today.

Canada kicking to an Olympic spot

With a 1-0 win over Costa Rica, our women's soccer team has qualified for the summer games. Excellent. Mexico vs the U.S is the other semi with the winner joining Canada at the olympics. The final for this is Sunday.

Super bowl 54

The Kansas City Chiefs are super bowl champs after beating San Francisco 31-20. First super bowl win since Super Bowl 4. Patrick Mahomes was super bowl mvp. There's another football season until CFL training camps open up in May.

Image

The youth games are on. 79 nations are in Lausanne Switzerland for these games. Lauren Rajala carried the flag in. The athletes had already been marched in and the showed off the flag bearers.
