mens hockey GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD canada just beat the u.s. 3-2 in overtime to win gold on home soil in a very clost and nerve wracking game. sidney crosby scores the winner. canada finished with 14g, 7s and 5 b for 26 medals. the 14 gold breaks a winter olympics record for most gold by a nation and by a host nation. closing ceremonies in more than two hours.
boat load of golds and a bronze three golds and a bronze today. golds won by kevin martin and his curling team from the saville centre in edmonton, jasey jay anderson in parallel giant snowboard slalom and the mens team pursuit team in speed skating. the bronze came from lyndon rush and his four man bobsled team. thats 13g 7s and 5b. best medal count by canada now. ties a record for most golds won by a nation and by a host nation at the winter olympics
golden mens relay the mens short track team just picked up canada's 10th gold of the games by winning the 5000m relay. great skate by them. 10g 7s 4b = 21 medals.
golden bronze mix in 500m short track a wild and crazy finish in this one. after apolo anton ohno gets disqualified for impeding, charles hamelin wins gold and francois-louis tremblay wins bronze. thats now 9g 7s and 4b. hopefully more to come.
curling silver cheryl bernard lost the gold medal game to annette norber of sweden 7-6 in an extra end, yet still gets the silver. 8g, 7s and 3b for 18 medals and two days left.
bronzed figure skater joannie rochette wins bronze in figure skating in what turns out to be a good finish to a sad week for her with the loss of her mom on sunday. a brave, gutsy lady putting on two great performances. way to go joannie. were all proud of you. thats now 8g 6s and 3b
golden womens hockey team canada just beat the u.s. 2-0 to claim their 3rd straight gold. shannon szabados stopped 29 shots to perserve the victory. yay for them. thats now 8g 6s and 2b.
a gold and silver mix in two woman bobsled kallie humphries and heather moyse won the gold and heleln upperton and shelley-ann brown won the silver in women's bobsled with a great final run for both teams. canada now has 7g 6s and 2b for 15 medals. woohoo
silver short tracking relay the canadian short track speedskate relay team picked up a silver after the south koreans got disqualified. canada now has 6b 5s and 2b. womens bobsled almost finished.
bronzed speed skater while canada up on the russians clara hughes picked up canada's second bronze and 12th overall in the 5000m speedskating event. thats 6g 4s 2b. meantime canada leads russia 6-2 in mens quarterfilan hockey action. update: canada 7 russia 3. canada in the semi finals
golden ski cross canadian ashley mcivor won the womens ski cross this afternoon giving canada its 6th gold of the game. canada has 6g 4s and 1 b for 11 medals overall. she will get her medal shortly.
golden ice dancing pair in figure skating the ice dancing pair of scott moir and tessa virtue has won GOOOOOOLD with an exquisite performance tonite. the were exquisite last night and friday. thats now 5g, 4s and 1 b. they will get their medals and a little bit.
silver lining in 1500m kristina groves won the silver in the 1500m speed skating event. ireen wust of the netherlands won. martina sablikova got the bronze. thats now 4g, 4s and 1b = 9 medals.
golden skeleton run jon montgomery just won gold on his final run in skeleton. a great run by him and a tad slow run by martin dukurs of latvia (i think he lost it somewhere on his last run). thats now 4g, 3s and 1 b. WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO.
golden speedskater of the long track variety christine nesbitt got herself a gold in the 1000m event this afternoon. she gets her gold at 8:40 tonight. more info at http://www.vancouver2010.com/ . canada has 3g 3s and 1b
silver speedskater of the short track kind marianne st. gelais just picked up a silver in the 500m short track speedskating event. she finished behind a chinese skater nickednamed "the wayne gretzky of short track." thats now 2g 3s and 1 b for 6 overall. wooohooo
golden snowboard dominique maltais walked away with canada's second gold winning the womens nowboard cross. i didnt see the race. i found out about it watching canada vs norway mens hockey game, which canada leads 6-0. update later. update: canada 10 norway 0.
snowboarded silver mike robertson takes a silver in snowboard cross after seth westcott of the u.s.a passes him2/3rd of the way down to claim gold. a great rae and a close finish. thats now 1 g, 2 s and 1 b.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD COMES HOME alexandre bilodeau just won canadas first ever gold on home soil winning the mens moguls event. time to party it up. 1 gold, one silver and one bronze so far. and its only day two.
52nd daytona 500 jamie macmurray has won the daytona 500 after an exciting finish. deale earnhard jr came from 10th to second on the last lap. there were two red flags to fix a piece of the track. an unbelievable finish to a unbelievable race. next stop in california and the auto club 500.
a bronzed speed skater kristina groves just picked up a bronze in the 3000m speed skating event. she got it after daniella anshutz thoms finished 0.03 sec behind in her pairing. thats now a silver and a bronze in the first two days so far.
first gold medal goes to....... simon ammann of switzerland in ski jumping the normal hill size. jenn heil is in the moguls final and will ski in a bit. charles hamelin finishe third in the semi final heat and didnt make it to the final ( top two in the heats move on) meanwhile in womens hockey canada leads slovakia 10-0. a beating for sure so far. updates later. update: canada 18 slovakia 0. jenn heil picks up a silver in moguls. americans win gold and bronze.
the vancouver olympics are on the opening ceremonies are on and the parade of athletes are currently happening. sadly overshadowed by the tragid death of a georgian (the country not the state) athlete near the end of his luge training run. the georgian team bravely marched in with black armbands to commemorate the athlete. more of the show will continue after the parade of nations and the lighting of the cauldron. who will light it and how will it stay burning indoors? yes b.c. place is the home of the ceremonies. 17 days of competition and i'm ready to go.
super bowl XLIV the new orleans saints have won their first ever super bowl with a 31-17 win over the indianapolis colts. drew brees tied a super bowl record with most pass completions with 32. drew brees also won game mvp. so there's another nfl season. yay saints.
budweiser shootout kevin harvick just won his second straight budweiser shootout and if i heard it right, his 7th shootout of his career. a great prelude to the daytona 500 a week from tomorrow. racing will be good there.
