the beijing medals here are the beijing gold, silver and bronze medals for the summer olympics. they were unveiled at the 500 days to go mark earlier today. there is jade in the medals, which i think is cool.
food city 500 wow, can you believe the end of this race. kyle busch beats out jeff burton to win the food city 500 in bristol. jeff burton race him clean to the end. oh yeah, it was a green-white checkered finish. tony stewart had a fuel pump problem while jimie johnson had a blown tire. jeff gordon finished 3rd and now leads the points by 3 over jeff burton. jimmie johnson is 3rd, 75 pts back while tony stewart slides to 12th. next race is in martinsville.
the rest of the final four set #1 florida beat #3 oregon 85-77 and georgetown who beat #1 north carolina 96-84 in overtime. so on saturday it will be florida vs ucla and ohio state vs georgetown (i may have inadvertantly put ohio st vs ucla yesterday. obviously its a lie).
one final four matchup decided #1 ohio state beat #2 memphis 92-76 and will face ucla who beat #1 kansas 68 -55. the other matchup to be determined tomorrow
down to eight + a lenghty streak over (woohoo) 8 teams left in the ncaa tournament. tomorrow, its #1 kansas vs #2 ucla and #1 ohio st vs #2 memphis. on sunday it will be #1 florida vs #3 oregon and #1 north carolina vs #2 georgetown (the latter on the 25th anniversary of the title game between the same teams involving some guy named jordan). on the hockey front, that loud cheer in edmonton was the oilers FINALLY ENDING A 12 GAME LOSING STREAK with a 4-3 win in a shootout over colorado. their last win was exactly one month ago tonight in detroit.
first full day of spring the full beginning of spring and it got to +2 and it's supposed to warm up by the weekend (can you say +12 for saturday). time for the snow to go and grass to pop out.
kobalt tools 500 jimmie johnson wins his second race in a row with a pass on tony stewart with 3 to go and won it. stewart finished second. they are both in the top 10 in points (johnson in 4th and stewart in 6th) mark martin still leads the points by 8. next race is in bristol next sunday and the first use of the car of tomorrow (the new rear spoiler in use). cant wait to see it.
day two of MARCH MADNESS produces another upset another upset with #11 winthrop beat #6 notre dame 74-64 and will play oregon sunday in round two. i am watching virginia tech vs illinois at the moment and illinois is leading in the 2nd half.
the beginning of MARCH MADNESS the ncaa basketball tournament has begun and so far no upsets to speak of - YET. don't worry, one's about to happen. loads of basketball tonight. so a good and busy night ahead. update: upset #1. 11 seed virginia commonwealth just beat #6 duke 79-77. vcu played solid defence and wore out duke.
early morning sight walking out of the house to go to work, i saw the northern lights. they werent strong, but visible enough to see. a nice sight to see.
uaw daimler chrysler 400 jimmie johnson ran away with this one after the last caution with 11 to go. jeff gordon had led the most laps and ended up 2nd. mark martin still leads the points, even though he's on a limited schedule. the way hes going, i doubt it.
early time change tomorrow night, canada and the u.s. set their clocks ahead one hour 3 weeks early. it was decides in 2005 to move it to an earlier date. whether it will work or not who knows. im guessing the sun will rise an hour earlier sunday morning and it will get dark an hour earlier. whether that actually happens, well we'll find out sunday.
spring is back, but for how long? its warmed up nicely. the snow and ice is melting, and the nice weather is to continue into the weekend. its +3 now. i hope it stays. i think a lot of people are sick of winter.
oilers autograph session the oilers had their autograph session today at the mall. the most popular event and the lineups were long. i didnt get any (curses had to work). but i did see jason smith and dwayne roloson. a good time for sure.
on the road again global is 'on the road again' starting tonight at the stollery childrens hospital. good way to begin march. now that exhibition baseball is in progress, its a good time to think spring. and central canada got hit with a nasty snowstorm and is supposed to continue into tomorrow.
