End of May

Shiyte the end of May got here in a hurry.   I don't know where it went.  Now what happened?  Finland won the men's world hockey championships, Stanley Cup final started, CFL preseason is here, Rouyn-Noranda won the Memorial Cup, the Kentucky Derby and Preakness happened, lots of baseball, the Indy 500, and I got my third tattoo.  Will show it soon.

101st Memorial cup

The Rouyn-Noranda Huskies are Memorial cup champions after beating the Halifax Mooseheads 4-2.  Congrats.

104th Indy 500

Simon Pagenaud won the Indianapolis 500 after passing Alexander Rossi on lap 199.  Rossi finished second and Takuma Sato was 3rd.

Russia shoots out bronze, Finns take gold

The bronze game went to a shootout.  Russia ends up winning the shootout and the bronze 3-2.  Meanwhile Finland defended its gold by beating Canada 3-1.  Quite the game here.  Next year the tournament is in Switzerland. Until then....

Semi final two

Canada beat the Czech Republic 5-1 and will face Finland for gold.  Czech Republic will face Russia for bronze.  Both games are tomorrow.

Semi final 1

First semi final had Finland beat Russia 1-0.  First loss for Russia.  Coming up has Canada vs Czech Republic in the second semi final. Game starts after 11am here.

MLB fun fact X2.

Fun fact 1:  Eddie Mathews is the only player to have played for the Braves in Atlanta, Milwaukee and Boston. Fun fact 2: Robin Roberts started in AND won a game against the Braves in all three cities the Braves played in.

Canada gets by Switzerland - barely

Canada trailed twice, tied it twice, then beat Switzerland in overtime 3-2.  They will face the Czech Republic on Saturday in the semis. Czech Republic beat Germany 5-1.  Finland will face Russia in the other semi.  Finland beat Sweden in OT 5-4 while Russia beat the U.S 4-3.  Were getting close to the end folks.

Blues bite Sharks

The St Louis Blues are in the Stanley Cup final after beating San Jose in game six 5-1 and the series 4-2. They will face the Boston Bruins for the cup.  It will be a rematch from the 1970  finals in which Boston won.  Series starts Monday.

Canada beat Denmark 5-0 to go to 5 wins and a loss.  They will play the U.S tomorrow for second  (and potentially first) in the group. Meanwhile both Great Britain and Italy both will be sticking around for next years tournament after beating France and Austria respectively.  France and Austria are relegated.

14th Preakness

War of Will won the Preakness today.  Country House was not in this race with an infection while Maximum Security was withdrawn, with owner saying two week gap was not enough time to rest.  Winning time was 1:54.34, winning jockey was Tyler Gaffalione and winning trainer was Mark E. Casse.   Next race is the Belmont on June 8th.

It was all Canada in this one as they beat Germany 8-1 and goes to 4 and 1, now same record as Germany. Canada plays Denmark on Monday.

Bruins sweep Hurricanes away.

The Boston Bruins are in the Stanley Cup final after finishing off the Carolina Hurricanes in 4 straight. Oddly enough the final score tonight was 4-0.  Now Boston awaits the winner of the San Jose vs St Louis series.

Canada vs France

Canada beat France earlier 5-2 to go to 3 and 1.  Looked like a good game. Canada plays Germany on Saturday.  Germany is having a good tournament winning all 4 of their games.

Canada beats Slovakia

Canada wins a rather sloppy game, winning 6-5 over Slovakia.  They were down 2-0 and 4-2 before getting their act together.  Canada is 2 and 1.  Their next game is Thursday against France.

Canada dumps Britain

Canada blew out Great Britain 8-0 to even their record at a win and a loss.   Not much of a doubt.  Next game is tomorrow vs Slovakia.

1000 to go

1000 days to go to the beginning of the 2022 winter Olympics in Beijing.  Well a little less now.  From hockey to bobsled. From curling to skiing.  From snowboarding to speedskating and everything in between. Should be good.

The Boston Bruins are playing the Carolina Hurricanes in the eastern conference finals after knocking out the Columbus Blue Jackets in six games. Series schedule to be determined later.

145th Kentucky Derby

On a sloppy track,  Maximum Security wins the 145th edition of the Run For the Roses.  He pulled away down the stretch for the finish.  Winning time wad 2:03.93.  Luis Saez is winning jockey and William I. Moti is winning trainer.  Next race is the Preakness in two weeks. The Carolina Hurricanes are going to the conference final after sweeping away the New York Islanders.  Carolina will play either Boston or Columbus.

MLB Stat of the day

Noah Syndergaard oh the N.Y. Mets became the first pitcher since Bob Welch in 1983 to throw a complete game 1-0 win AND hit a home run.  Wow.

Goodbye April hello May.

Geez April is gone.  May is here.  Things are slowly getting green here.  Seen some of the streets swept up already.  Bit of rain should clean up the remnants.  Wouldn't surprise me if it snowed again once or twice.  Snowed last night before I came home from work. When I got home and saw the snow on the porch I was thinking "no.  Just no."  My back was sore and I wasn't going to grab a shovel. It melted away anyways.  Should be a good month.
