end of november already wow november flew by. with the grey cup and the nascar championship and a whole bunch of football, it made for a great month. i guess the christmas shopping begins in earnest tomorrow, although it really began this past friday after u.s. thanksgiving. december brings christmas, hockey, football, and the world jr hockey championships. cant forget new years eve as well.
98th grey cup in edmonton the montreal allouettes just beat the saskatchewan roughriders 21-18 in a close game. montreal scored 13 unanswered points and forced saskatchewan to punt 8 times in the second hal. the riders got a touchdown late with four minutes left to make it close. darian durant had a pass intercepted to seal the win for montreal. jamal richardson was named grey cup mvp. and thus ends championship weeks.
nascar championship and cfl division final with a 2nd place finish and denny hamlin finishing 14th, jimmie johnson has won his 5TH CHAMPIONSHIP IN A ROW!!!!!!! chad knaus deserves the credit for it as well meanwhile in calgary, the riders knocked off the stampeders 20-16 in the west final on a cold and icy and snowy mcmahon stadium in calgary. while in montreal, the allouettes massacred the argos 48-17 in the east final. so it will be a rematch from last year as the riders face the alouettes for the grey cup at commonwealth stadium.
the beginning of "championship week" today marks the beginning of championship weeks featuring nascar practice and qualifying for the ford 400 in homestead. tomorrow, i believe is also practice. sunday is the ford 400, while in the cfl, its the west final between calgary and saskatchewan, and the east final between toronto and montreal. the winners go to edmonton for the 98th grey cup on the 28th. it will get exciting and fun.
racing at phoenix and racing to grey cup carl edwards snapped a lengthy winless drought by winning in phoenix. jimmie johnson finished 5th and denny hamlin finished 13 and still leads by 15 points. kevin harvik is third in points 46 points back. last race of the season is one week from today in homestead and the ford 400. meanwhile in saskatchewan the riders just knocked off the b.c. lions 41-38 in overtime to win the west semi final. they will go to calgary to face the stampeders next sunday. while in the east the toronto argonauts went to hamilton and beat the tiger-cats 16-13 to win the east semi final. they will go to montreal to face the alouettes in the east final next sunday.
monday musings so yesterday, denny hamlin won the AAA 500 in texas yesterday, and with jimmie johnsons 9th place finish, he took the points lead. he leads johnson by 33 points. next race is in phoenix on sunday. the CFL regular season ended yesterday. calgary and montreal finished first in their divisions and has the bye into the division finals. calgary will play either saskatchewn or b.c. they play sunday in saskatchewan. montreal will play either hamilton or toronto, who plays their division semi in hamilton. a great november already.
world series game 5 tim lincecum pitched 8 innings giving up a solo homer, edgar renteria hit a key 3 run homer and brian wilson pitched the 9th as the san francisco giants won their first world series in san francisco and their first since 1954 when they were in new york. renteria was also named playoff mvp. congrats to them.
