new years eve excitement. getting close to 2010. what a hockey game in saskatoon between canada and the u.s. canada comes back from 4-2 down to tie it and send it to overtime. that settled nothing. it goes to a shootout and canada wins it there. canada wins 5-4 and goes to the semi final, while the u.s. goes to the quarter-final against finland. the other quarter final is russia vs switzerland. canada and sweden has the byes to the semis each winning their pool. now the countdown begins to the new year.
canada beats slovakia, showdown on new years eve canada just beat slovakia 8-2 ans will set up a new years eve showdown against the u.s. for first in pool a and a bye to the semi final. both canada and the u.s. are 3 wins and 0 losses, so this one is HUGE!!!!!! oh by the way steve yzerman will announce canada's olympic team tomorrow morning at 10am (or thereabouts). so an exciting two days coming.
world juniors underway the world junior hockey championships are underway. canada has already played twice and won both (16-0 over latvia and 6-0 over switzerland) canada plays slovakia tomorrow and the u.s. new years eve (cant wait for that). survivied boxing day. christmas was good. cant wait for new years. 2010 is on the doorstep and a party brewing.
martin brodeur sets yet another record after surpassing partick roy for career appearances, martin brodeur surpasses terry sawchik for career shutouts, getting his 104th shut as the devils beat the penguins 4-0. a great accompishment there.
the end of the "roar of the rings" the canadian curling trials ended yesterday. saturday night cheryl benard beat shannon kleibrink 7-6 to represent canada in womens curling at the vancouver winter olympics. yesterday, kevin martin beat glenn howard 7-3 to represent canada in mens curling at the winter olympics. both are alberta teams. benard from calgary and martin from edmonton. good luck to both.
winter blast of nastiness got a bigtime snowstorm that finally let up overnight. a little more is supposed to come down today. i'm guessing we got 10 - 15 cm here. and its supposed to get nasty cold too. bundle up- just dont kill yourself shovelling.
