womens world cup day 5 france is moving on to the quarter finals aftar a convincing 4-0 win over canada. france controlled the game from start to finish. france leads group A with 6 pts anda canada has none. next up germany vs nigeria in about an hour to round up the second game of group A. update: germany 1 nigeria 0. a tight physical game. germany scored in the 54th minute. germany is in the quarter finals joining france, both with 6 pts. canada and nigeria have no points and are eliminated. tomorrow it will be japan vs mexico and new zealand vs england in group B action.
womens world cup day four equitorial guinea battled norway the whole way, but norway got one late in the game to get a 1-0 over equitorial guinea. a pretty close one. next up is brazil vs australia. update: brazil 1 australia 0. brazil got their goal in the 54th minute and survived an australian attack late. norway and brazil have 3 points and australia and equitorial guine have none. back to group A for thier second game. canada vs france and germany vs nigeria tomorrow
womens world cup day 3 in the early game sweden bean columbia 1-0 in a game that sweden could have put more in. anyways they sit atop group C for the time being. USA vs north korea is coming up in about 45 minutes to round up group C. update: USA 2 north korea 0. tight game most of the way. sweden and the USA has 3 pts while north korea and columbia at none. tomorrow in group D its norway vs equitorial guinea and brazil vs australia to round out the opening games of group play.
womens world cup day two. japan just beat new zealand 2-1 to kick off group B action. i caught the last 15 minutes of it. i thought japan had most of the control. mexico vs england will round out group B action. they start in one hour. update: mexico 1 england 1. japan leadds group B with 3 pts, mexico and england with 1 point each and new zealand with none. tomorrow columbia vs sweden and usa vs north korea in group C action.
women's world cup underway the womens world cup has begun in germany with group A action with france beating nigeria 1-0 and germany beating canada 2-1. christine sinclair got the goal for canada in the 82nd minute. france and germany are atop group A with 3 pts each.
road racing in sonoma kurt busch won in sonoma this afternoon. from the bits and pieces that i saw he was pretty good. he is second in th points, 25 behind carl edwards who finished 4th. 5x champion jimmie johnson finished 7th and moved up to third in the points. next race is saturday in daytona.
first day of summer summer officially started today and wouldn't you know it - a severe thunderstorm watch in effect. just not for edmonton. its for the surrounding communities. with the rain finally stopping and it going to 23 today the conditions are right for some storms. its that time of the year.

game 7 no doubter the boston brouins have just won the stanley cup with a 4-0 win in game seven and the series 4-3. boston i think outplayed vancouver, mostly in the net. tim thomas was way better than roberto luongo. tim thomas won the conn smythe trophy as playoff mvp. congrats to the bruins.
something to ponder with the nba final ending last night and game 6 of the stanley cup final tonight makes me wonder the last time the nba was done before hockey. something to ponder and to look up.
mavs cool off heat with a 105-95 win in miami in game 6, the dallas mavericks win the nba championship 4 games to 2. dirk nowitzki was named playoff mvp congrats to the mavericks.
back on after a month without got the internet, phone and cable hooked up today after a month without. mostly because of a move in early may. with the nba final and stanley cup final nearly done and cfl season almost here and baseball season in full swing. plus a no hitter bu justin verlander on may 7th. and the indy 500 won by dan wheldon. hopefully more to come.
