tigers/yankees deluged by rain tonights game one between detroit vs new york has been called due to rain.  they will resume tomorrow at 6:30pm with the yankees coming to bat in the bottom of the second with the score tied at one.
rays draw first blood the tampa bay rays draw first blood with a 9-0 win in texas.  matt moore pitched seven innings of two hit ball.  seven of the nine runs came by the home run - johnny damon with a two run homer, and kelly choppach had a three run homer and a two run homer.  tampa leads series 1-0.
re-opening of b.c. place b.c. place will be officially re-opened with the edmonton eskimos as first visitors of the b.c. lions home.  b.c. place now has a refurbished retractable roof to replace the teflon roof that they had.  can't wait to see what it looks like.  the lions spent the last season and a half at empire stadium (their old stadium before b.c. place opened in 1983).  the grey cup game is held there this year as well.
end of september tomorrow already?  wtf? doesn't seem that long ago september started and the end of it is tomorrow already.  damn it left in a hurry.  mlb playoff start tomorrow, tony stewart won the first two chase races while jimmie johnson didnt do too great.  tony leads and jimmie is 10th in the points.  gonna be an ecxiting 8 races.  nfl season started, cfl second half is in full swing, hockey season is on the doorstep now with the return of the winnipeg jets.  october is looking good already.
rays snag last wild card after red sox unravel the tampa bay ray came back from seven runs down to beat the yankees 8-7 in extra innings.  that combined with boston losing 4-3 in baltimore (they were up a run going to the bottom of nine).  the rays had a month of september while boston won only 6 games.  the playoff matchups feature the rays vs the rangers and the yankees facing the tigers in the A.L.  in the N.L. it will be the cardinals vs phillies and brewers vs diamondbacks.  fun starts friday.
cardinals go wild card on last day the st.louis cardinals claimed the national league wild card with an 8-0 win in houston combined with atlanta losing 4-3 to philadelphia.  st.louis got on a hot streak while atlanta, who was up 8.5 games, faltered dramatically.  congrats to st.louis.
mlb's 200,000 game in the books "officially" the 200,000th game ended up being colorado at houston, which became official after the 5th inning with the game tied at two not long after kansas city vs chicago was game 199,999.  that was official after 4 1/2 with chicago leading 5-0.  so there you go. update: colorado 4 houston 2.  took 13 innings to get the winner
texas rangers capture a.l. west combined with their 5-3 win over seattle and a 3-1 win by oakland over the angels, the texas rangers won their fifth american league west title and second consecutive title.  congrats to the rangers.
diamondbacks slither way to n.l. west title with a 3-1 over the san francisco giants, the arizona diamondbacks just clinched the national league west title. its their fourth title and fifth playoff appearance (could be five divisions not sure).  congrats to the d-backs.
national league central "brew"ing with a 5-1 win against the florida marlins, combined with a 5-1 chicago cubs win over the st.louis cardinals (this game just ended), the milwaukee brewers won the national league central.  their first division won in the national league and first divison since 1982 when the y won the a.l. east.  congrats to them.
a milestone for major league baseball at some point before the end of the season, major league baseball will have played its 200,000th game.  the very first game was april 22 1876 between the boston red caps (nee red stockings, then would eventally be the boston/milwaulkee/atlanta braves) vs the philadeplhia athletics (not to confuse them with the american league team that started in philly, then kansas city then oakland).  the red caps won 6-5.  this was also the first national league game.  teams then played a 70 game schedule (philadelphia and the new york mutuals wer forced out both not finishing the full sked).  boston finished with a 39-31 record and philly had a 14-45 record.  so who will be the 200,000th game and who will win it? side note:  game #100,000 was on july 16 1964 and had the orioles beating the yankees 6-1.
coming onto the first day of fall the first day of fall is tomorrow (3:04 am).  it's noticable with the leaves changing color and falling off the trees.  we got a summertime forecast for the next few days.  i think we got our summer late, even if it is indian summer.  it'll be gone before ya know it.
yankees eastern playoff bound by sweeping both ends of a double header, the new york yankees wrapped up the a.l. east with a week to spare.  it is their 16th trip to postseason baseball in 17 years.  they have a good stretch going.  congrats to the yankees
rivera nu-mo-ro one save style mariano rivera picked up save 602, preserving a 6-4 win over the minnesota twins.he been using the cutter pitch his whole career and as been keeping them off base.  congrats to mariano.
phive in a row of philly the philadelphia phillies just wrapped up their fifth n.l. east title with a 9-2 win over st.louis.  a six run eighth inning did it for them.  congrats to the phillies.
tigers take bite out of a.l. central the detroit tigers just clinched the american league central with a 3-1 win in oakland.  even though the phillies clinched a playoff spot, the tigers were the first team to win their division.  it is detroits first division win since 1987 when the won the a.l. east by two games over toronto.  congrats to them.
mariano rivera at 600 mariano rivera became the second closing pitcher to record 600 saves in a career.  trevor hoffman sits at 601.  quite an accomplishment for both.  congrats to mariano on the accomplishment.  i think rivera will pass hoffman before the end of the season.
fall is almost here and feels like it fall may be a week from friday, and it feels like it.  its +9 outside at the moment and the leaves are already turning color.  its refreshing now considering before the weekend it was freaking hot.  today is why i love fall.  the sun is setting early which adds to the fall look.  winter on the other hand is a different story and another post.
