On this day

In 1972 Paul Henderson scored with 34 seconds left in game 8 to give Canada a 6-5 win over the Soviet Union in the summit series. Canada won the series 4-3-1. In 1941 Ted Williams goes 6-8 in a double header against the Philadelphia A's to finish the season with a .406 average. He is still the last player to finish over .406.

Fall has officially arrived

Fall is officially here. Began at 1:50 am Prince Albert time. Leaves are already changing color. Had a few cool days here. Had to have seriously rained Thursday night into Friday morning. All the leaves that were on the ground were blocking the drains. Eeep. Daylight hours are getting shorter and shorter.

The mascots are a panda and a lantern. Bing Dwen Dwen panda represents the Olympics and Shuey Rhon Rhon lantern represents the Paralympics. And here they are. What do you think?

Andreescu does it.

Bianca Andreescu is the U.S Open champion after beating Serena Williams 6-3 7-5. Her first career grand slam title and first Canadian to win a major tennis tournament. Williams was gunning for her 24th grand slam title. Congrats to Bianca.

Historic night at U.S Open

Bianca Andreescu is the first Canadian to reach the U.S Open tennis final. She will be facing Serena Williams. Hopefully a good final. Andreescu is 19 and has a heck of a future.

Fall has arrived

Boy has it ever arrived. 10c, rainy, cloudy, and the Labour day weekend ends today. Perfect for CFL tradions - Winnipeg vs Saskatchewan yesterday with the Riders winning, Toronto at Hamilton on now and Edmonton at Calgary later. Fun times.

3 more rowing to Olympics

3 more olympic spots claimed over the weekend. Today had the womens 8s take a rowing spot. Yesterday the mens pairs and the womens 4s claim the other two rowing spots. A good weekend for qualification.

Softballing it to the Olympics

Took a day longer but Canada has qualified for the Olympics after beating Brazil 7-0 on the last day of Americas tournament in Surrey B.C. They join Mexico as the two teams qualifying for 2020. Mexico beat Canada yesterday to qualify.
