end of the month

i can't believe it is already the end of February. nascar has started, the super bowl was contested and players are showing up in Arizona and Florida for spring training baseball. and nearing the playoff stretch in hockey. spring is not that far away. although the cold doesn't want to go away. March will have preseason baseball, more nascar, more hockey and hopefully warmer temperatures. but who knows.

survivor 30

can you believe it? season 30 of survivor has begun. it is survivor: worlds apart. it is blue collar vs white collar vs no collar. hard work vs top dogs vs free spirits. the immunity challenge just ended. someone will be the first voted out. find out on cbs or global.

is it winter or spring or something

it was mild the last couple of days. it started to rain a bit at lunch. then a home time. now it is snowing and the temperature is about to drop. at least to -11 by tomorrow. supposed to hang around that for the next week. and march begins Sunday. blaaahhh.

canadian flag turns 50

the Canadian flag celebrates its 50th birthday. it was raised on parliament hill on his day in 1965, thus also retiring the red ensign. there were many choices, but the maple leaf and red sides was chosen. there was a lot of controversy in late 1964 when the change was about to happen. even from the war veterans who fought under the red ensign and union jack. Lester B. Pearson was behind the campaign for the flag. so happy birthday to the Canadian flag.

hockey day in canada.

it's hockey day in Canada and this year Halifax, Nova Scotia is the host city. all seven Canadian teams are playing. Edmonton is at Ottawa at noon, Toronto plays Montreal at 5pm, Winnipeg is at Detroit - also at 5pm and the capper has Calgary in Vancouver at 8pm. 13 hours of hockey and features. on cbc right now. update: Ottawa 7 Edmonton 2. after a close first period, it was all Ottawa. update 2: Montreal 2 Toronto 1 in the shootout while Winnipeg beats Detroit 4-3, also in the shootout. update 3: Calgary 3 Vancouver 2. that is it for another hockey day in Canada. until next year

bronzed shot putter - six and a half years later

Dylan Armstrong of Kamloops b.c. will be picking up a bronze medal in a ceremony from the Beijing summer games after the Andrei mishnikev of Belarus was banned for life from competing after a second doping offence this past august. that will put Canada's official total to 19. (3g, 9a 7b) and will move Canada from 14th to 13th in the medal standings.

sunday musing

not much since the super bowl. a tad chilly the past few days. had some more snow on Thursday. 10cm then. spent Friday shovelling stairs at work. meanwhile, the northeastern u.s. is getting slammed again. at this rate the snow will be gone in July. who knows when spring will be here. the time change is in three weeks and more daylight hours. next weekend is a three day weekend. that will be good. and thinking of someone.

super bowl 49

wow that was some game. the new England patriots are super bowl champions in a thriller of a game. it was tied at 14 at halftime. seattle went up 24-14. new England came back with two touchdowns in the fourth. leading up for a crazy ass finish. Jermaine Kearse made one heck of a catch, getting the seahawks into scoring range. instead of handing off to marshawn lynch, Russell Wilson throws for an interception to seal the new England win. former CFL'er chris Matthews had a heck of a game for seattle, made a couple of great catches, one for a td. it is new England's first super bowl in ten years and fourth overall. tom brady was named super bowl mvp and won a 2015 chevy Colorado truck. that's if for another football year. CFL training camps are in four months. looking forward to that already.
