Fun curling fact

There have been 5 four time world champions - and all from Canada. They are: Randy Ferbey, Glenn Howard and the Richardson brothers  (Ernie, Garnet and Arnold).  Crazy eh.  Credit to Devin Heroux for fun fact.

March done

Geez last day of March already.  I think spring is here for good but who knows.  Let's see, what happened?  Baseball season began in Japan between Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners.  Ichiro Suzuki played his last game there.  Hockey is into the final stretch.  March Madness is into the final four.  Started working.  Figuring out Prince Albert slowly.  April means more baseball and postseason hockey.  And nicer weather.

An opening day record.

The Los Angeles Dodgers hit an opening day record 8 home runs in a 12-5 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.  Wow.

Opening day.

It's officially opening day in MLB.  Already two games done.  Mets won in Washington 2-0 while the Yankees beat Baltimore 7-2.  What awaits us during the season?  Stay tuned.  This season will be LIT!!!🔥🔥🔥

World womens finale

It went to an extra end.  Switzerland beats Sweden 8-7 to win this year's world's.   Meanwhile South Korea beat Japan 7-5 to take bronze.  Next year's tournament I believe is in Prince George B.C.

Womens world curling championship

It will be Sweden vs Switzerland for the final while South Korea will face Japan for bronze. Canada failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 1999. Yiye.  Chelsea Carey and her team went 6-6 in the tournament. Update on the final tomorrow.

One last upset

This time it's Ohio State beating Iowa State 62-59.  Ohio state will face Houston on Sunday.

A 4th upset

#12 Liberty just beat #5 Miss. State 80-76.  Top seeds are slowly dropping like flies.  Last 4 games are on. We'll see how the night finishes.

And a third upset unless you're cheering for Oregon

The #12 Oregon Ducks score another upset with a 72-54 win over Wisconsin.  They get #13 UC Irvine on Sunday.

Day 2 has another upset

Day two so far has another upset as #13 UC Irvine beat #4 Kansas State 70-64.  Wow.  Maybe more to come.

First full day of march madness produces first upset

The first on just happened in the west bracket as #12 Murray St. beat #5 Marquette 83-64. They will get Florida State in the next round on Saturday. There is more action tonight.

Spring is here

Spring makes its official arrival at 3:58pm today.  The nice weather will welcome it.  The slow snow melt is on.  The piles of snow seem smaller and there isn't much snow and ice on the roads either.  Feels good.

Tokyo 2020 olympic torch.

Image
Here is what the torch looks like. It is based on the cherry blossom motif.  The relay starts this time next year during cherry blossom season.

A good day

A good day today.   First off I got a job.  Starting next week as a dishwasher. Better than sitting on my ass all day. I live close enough to there where I walked to an from the interview.  Plus I went for a long walk later on.  +9 and the sun out I figured a walk was needed.  A good day.

nhl stat of the day

the Tampa Bay Lightning became the 12th team to reach 55 wins in a season, AND the fourth in last 22 seasons to reach that win.  and with 10 games left, they could be the 3rd team to hit 60 (Montreal in 1976-77 and Detroit in 1995-96).  scary stuff. and quite impressive.

happy St. Patricks day

happy St. Patricks Day.  that annual time of the year where a lot of green comes out.  even the grass.  that time of the year where everyone is Irish for a day.  I think the Chicago river is green again.  and green beer.  enjoy the day

500 days to go

500 days to go to the opening of the Tokyo 2020 summer games.  500 days of qualifying for the games, whether its rugby 7s, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, swimming, or whatever.  500 days before the summer games gets LIT🔥.  (Devin Heroux would be proud of the lit up)

Kevin Koe Brier champ

the team of Kevin Koe, B.J. Neufeld, Colton Flasch and Ben Hebert are Brier champs after scoring two in the 10th to beat the wild card Brendan Bottcher team 4-3.  the Koe team will be representing Canada at the worlds in Lethbridge from March 30 to April 7.  Koe is the fourth skip to win 4 Briers, after Ernie Richardson, Kevin Martin and Randy Ferbey did it.  wow.

an all Alberta Brier final

wild card Brendan Bottcher of Edmonton score two in the 10th end after a double tap back to get the second shot and beat Brad Jacobs of northern Ontario 5-4 and will face Kevin Koe of Calgary for the Brier championship.  gonna be a good one tonight.

fun baseball fact.

Bob Montgomery of the Boston Red Sox was the last player to bat helmetless.  he played with the Red Sox from 1970-79. in 1971 batting helmets became mandatory, yet active players were allowed to bat without one using a grandfather clause.  Montgomery used a protective lining inside his cap to strengthen it.  his last game was September 9, 1979.

a hell of a start

Brad Gushue and his rink from Newfoundland and Labrador, representing Canada, put 7 points in the first end.  what a start.  Devin Heroux looked up some info and find out 7 in the first end has happened six previous times - the last in 2000 when PEI stole 7 against Nova Scotia.  wow.

a Wednesday night

spending a Wednesday night watching Survivor, and afterwards going to watch the second half of Gordon Ramsay's 24 hours to hell and back.  that show has Ramsay coming to a dysfunctional restaurant and has 24 hours to turn their fortunes around.  also I am keeping and eye on the final group B games and a chance of a potential tiebreak.   already a good night shaping up.

a stat on top of upset (unless you're Yukon)

Jon Solberg was the last skip from Yukon to beat Manitoba when he did it in 2002 when the Yukon/NWT team beat Mark Lukowich 11-10.  until today.  he and his Yukon rink beat Manitoba 7-6 and is tied with Manitoba at 2-2 sitting in 4th.  yiye.  all stats and info from Devin Heroux on twitter.

big time Brier comeback + a birthday = a weekend

first the birthday.  yesterday my blog turned 15. 15 years of baseball, hockey, NASCAR, football, Olympics and other random stuff that has happened.  eep.  here's to 15 more years - perhaps. now for the comeback.  Brandon Bottcher (in as a wild card) was down 5-0 and beat Manitoba 9-8 in an extra end.  wow.  the comeback tied the biggest Brier comeback.  1980 was the last time that happened.  yiye.  and the Brier just started this weekend.  should be a good week coming up.
