challenger anniversary

today was the 20th anniversary of the challenger explosion. 7 astronauts lost their lives. one of which - christa mcauliffe - was a school teacher. if i remember right, she was to give a lesson in space, which would have been cool. 73 seconds after they blasted off, it was over. i remember coming home from school and seeing the news. still sad.

election night

by the looks of the numbers (and some polls are still adding up the numbers and slow in reporting), the conservatives, under stephen harper, will form the new government. its a minority government. majority is 155, and the conservatives sit at 122. i think canadians sent a message to the liberals for their wrong-doings. the interesting number for them - the have 105 seats. final numbers will be known later tonight or tomorrow morning. so a change in governmenrt for sure.

flyers vs central red army anniversary

thirty years ago tonight was the anniversary of central red army visiting philadelphia. january 11, 1976 the flyers beat central red army. i don't remember the score (i did see the highlights), but there was one play that stands out. ed van impe's elbow on one of the russian players, which caused the red army team to leave the ice. from which you can hear bob cole say "they're going home." it was found out the team wasn't paid, so they had to finished the game. i remember seeing the tape which had comments from players who was involved. so thats that.
