bass pro shops mbna 500 carl edwards won in atlanta. he won in atlanta back in march as well. gets the sweep and got in the backflip. jeff gordon got second. tony stewart finished 9th and jimmie johnson finished 16th. tony stewart now leads by 43 over johnson and 75 over greg biffle, who finished 7th. next race in texas and the dickies 500.
final baseball thoughts hers some final baseball thoughs related to the world series. jermaine dye was voted mvp and got a new chevy. with the red sox winning after 86 years last year and the white sox winning after 88 years this year, thats 174 years of drought done in two seasons. could the cubs do it next year? last time they won was 1908. we shall see what 2006 brings.
world series game 4 the chicago are 2005 world series champions. a 1-0 win tonite and a 4 game sweep. plus an 88 year drought is over. last time a world series ended 1-0 was 1995 when the atlanta braves won. congratulations to the chicago white sox.
world series game 3 chicago just beat houston 7-5 in 14 innings. longest game time wise at 5h41m. the 14 innings tied a world series record, set in 1916 when boston beat brooklyn 2-1. all time innings record is 18 when houston beat atlanta 7-6 in this years nlds. longest lcs record for innings - 16, also involving the astros. they lost to the mets. chicago is one win away from winning their first world series since 1917. game 4 later tonite. freddie garcia for chicago and brandon backe for houston. stay tuned.
subway 500 jeff gordon won this one. had a good car. first win since talladega on may 1. tony stewart finished second (led the most laps) and jimmie johnson finished 3rd. tony stewart leads by 15 points over jimmie johnson with four races to go. next race in atlanta a week from today.
world series game 2 wow. quite the game that just finished. scott podsednick just hit a game winning home run for the white sox giving them a 7-6 win and a 2-0 series lead going back to houston for game 3 on tuesday. houston was up 4-2 going to the bottom of 7th. i forget who hit the grand slam, but the homer put chicago up 6-4. houston ties it at 6 when lance berkman hit a 2 run base hit in the top of nine. which led to podsednick winning it in the bottom half. game 3, like i said, is tuesday.
world series game one the white sox drew first blood in the first game with a 5-3 win. jose contreras got the win. roger clemens went two innings before leaving with an apparant hamstring problem. the chicago bull pen was working well despite a long layoff. the only action prior to tonite was 2/3 of an inning in game one of the alcs. anyways game two tomorrow. andy pettite goes for houston and mark buehrle goes for chicago.
houston astros to the world series the houston astros are in the world series for the first time in franchise history. they defeated the cardinals 5-1 and the series 4-2. the world series starts saturday in chicago. this was also the last ever game at busch stadium. they start next season at the new busch stadium across the street for 2006. this'll be a great series.
question about "restrictor plate racing" i was reading a comment by darren and he asked what restrictor plate racing was. (i think the entry was after the talladega race on the second of this month). heres the answer. the use of the restrictor plate is to cut down the horse power, which generates speed. the more horse power, the more speed. the only places the plates are used is in talladega and daytona. not only are they 2.5 miles or longer, but if you watch a race from either track, you notice the tracks are wide as well. the result is the cars are bunched up in one "glob" which makes for exciting racing. the downside is the inevitable big wreck. other places like pocono are the size of daytona, BUT they dont use the plate there for two reasons. 1. the shape of the track. its 3 sided. and 2. the thought of going into one of three turns that close together could lead to some serious problems. different kinds of tracks, different kinds of racing. an
nlcs game 5 wow. the astros were one out from going to the world series. before you know it, alber puhols hit a 3 run homer to put st. louis up 5-4 and thats the way game five ended. game six is wednesday from busch stadium in st. louis.
nlcs game 4 & alcs game 5 the houston astros are one win from going to their first ever trip to the world series with a 2-1 win over st. louis cardinals. this may be pay back from losing to them last year. meanwhile the chicago white sox just beat the anaheim angels 6-3 and are making their first trip to the world series since 1959 when they lost to the dodgers in 6 games. cant wait for the world series now.
uaw gm quality 500 crazy. thats all i got to say to describe this race. tire issues left right and centre. most of it the right front. jimmie johnson won tonite. tony stewart ran over debris, cut a right rear and backed into the wall hard enough to continue and finish 25th. stewart and johnson are tied for the points lead with 5777 pts and greg biffle sites 3rd, 11 pts back, ryan newman is 17 back, mark martin is 51 back and carl edwards round up the top 6 54 pts behind the co-leaders. next up, martinsville a week from tomorrow. thats all from me for tonite anyways.
alcs game 4 chicago white sox just won game 4 8-2. geez, one win away from their first trip to the world series since 1959. that year they lost to the dodgers. hopefully they dont pull off on what happened to the yankees - choke. heres hoping.
nlcs game 3 houston won game 3 this afternoon 4-3. dont know how it went since i was working. game four tomorrow.
alcs game 3 the chicago white sox just beat the anaheim angels 5-2 on a complete game pitched by john garland. he threw close to 120 pitches. back to back complet games pitched by chicago - both wins. last time that happed was by florida in games 5 and 6 in the 1997 nlcs. livan hernandes and kevin brown got the wins. anyways game four in anaheim tomorrow night and st. louis at houston for game 3 of the nlcs tomorrow afternoon.
nlcs game 2 houston has tied this series at one with a 4-1 win. roy oswold got the win in this one. brad lidge got the save. both pitchers stymied the cardinals to 5 hits all game. game 3 is saturday in houston.
baseball action st. louis won game 1 of the n.l.c.s tonite 5-3. chris carpenter, i believe, got the win. game 2 tomorrow on fox. after anaheim won game one of the a.l.c.s 3-1 last night, chicago tied the series at one with a 2-1 win. the win followed some controversy when josh paul clearly caught kelvim escobar's pitch before the ball hit the dirt (check the replay). the umpire called strike thre after a.j. piersynski swung and missed, which would have ended the 9th inning and continued into the 10th tied at one. piersynski, thinking maybe the ball hit the dirt, took a chance and ran for first ans josh paul flipped the ball to the mound thinking the inning was over. anyways the umpires let piersynski stay at first, who got replaced by a pinch runner. he stole second. joe crede ended up winning it with a double off the left field wall and chicago wins 2-1.
angels move on the angels beat the yankees 5-3 and goes to chicago to face the white sox in game one of the alcs tomorrow night. geez, three games in three different cities. last night in new york (yanks won), tonite in anaheim and tomorrow in chicago. in the n.l., its the cardinals and the astros starting wednesday.
banquet 400 mark martin won the banquet 400. had the hot rod today and led the most laps. the roushketeers keep rolling. next race is saturdat in charlotte. tony stewart now leads the points by 75 points.
houston advances and sad day for jays the houston astros advance to the n.l.c.s with a 7-6 18 inning game. long one indeed. they play the st.louis cardinals, who won last night ofer san diego. sad day for anyone who's followed the jays. tom cheek, the long time radio play by play announcer, passed away early this morning to brain cancer. he started there with the first game on a snowy day on april 7 1977 with a 7-4 win over the white sox. doug ault with 2 homers. he went 4306 straight games before missing games with his fathers funeral and the operation to remove a cancerous tumer in his brain. best memory - "TOUCH 'EM ALL JOE! YOU'LL NEVER HIT BIGGER HOMER IN YOU LIFE!" that from game 6 of the '93 world series against philadelphia.
a great saturday night im loving tonite. got hockey night in canada going. montreal beat toronto 5-4 in the first game of the double header. edmonton is leading vancouver 2-1 in the 2nd. in the mlb playoffs, houston beat atlanta 7-3, anaheim and new york got postponed due to rain and st.louis and san diego just started moments ago. plus laundry and montreal beating saskatchewan 38-34 in the only cfl game tonite. talk about a great saturday night.
red sox done the defending world series champs are out. the chicago white sox just finished a 3 game sweep (first round best of 5) and are in the a.l.c.s between either the angels or the yankees. a historical fact for chicago - the last world series they won was 1917. two years later (1919) eight white sox players got kicked out of baseball for "throwing" the world series, known as the "black sox scandal." so there ya go.
nhl season begins tonite GAME ON!!!!! the puck drops tonite in 15 sites. yep, all 30 teams play tonite. new rules. new changes. hopefully makes for an exciting season. as morles scott would say - lets play hockey.
postseason baseball the race to the world series has begun. st.louis beat san diego 8-5 and chicago won 14-2 over boston. the yankees play the angels tonite. atlanta and houston start tomorrow. time to go watch some baseball.
uaw/ford 500 talk about a wild finish. im surprised there wasnt a huge wreck at the end (other than kyle petty) dale jarrett was scored as the winner. tony stewart came second and has retaken the lead by 4 points over ryan newman. there was even two mini wrecks that got mikey waltrip and scott riggs to flip over a few times. mark martin, im under the impression, cant stand restrictor plate racing. exciting, yes. unless your cheering for someone (like i was with tony stewart), you hope your guy dont wreck. anyways thats talladega. next race in kansas on the 9th. and no restrictor plate.
mlb playoffs start tuesday the road to the world series start tuesday. the a.l. matchups: n.y. yankees vs anaheim angels and the boston red sox vs chicako white sox. the n.l. matchups: houston astros vs atlanta braves and the st.louis cardinals vs san diego padres. gotta love october baseball.
n.y yankees a.l. east champs the yankees won the a.l. east by beating boston 8-4. even though they could end up tied for the division, if the red sox win the wild card the yankees get it by the season record against boston. so tomorrow its either the red sox or the indians into the playoffs UNLESS they are tied with the same record. then its a one game playoff in boston. well see.
