its halloweeeeeeeen..... ...which means end of october (mmmmmmmmm candy). lets see, the end of the cfl regular season, the cardinals winning the world series, got to see gordon lightfoot in concert (cool concert. enjoyed it immensely), the start of hockey season, and got some snow. even cooled off too. for novemober, it's the road to the grey cup (we will have a new champion since the eskimos missed the playoffs for the first time since 1971), the last three races of the nascar season. last years champion - tony stewart - missed the cut for the 10 race chase. the beginning of the nba season starts tonight. so november will be fun.
bass pro shops 500 tony stewart drove the pants off and won. he had the car tonight. jimmie johnson finished 2nd. dale earnhardt jr beat out matt kenseth for 3rd. matt kenseth leads jimmie johnson by 26 points. the last three races jimmie johnson made up 130 points on the leader. next race in texas next sunday.
world series game 5 the st. louis cardinals are world series champions with a 4-2 win. adam wainwright gets the save and the final out with the strikeout. jeff weaver pitched 8 great innings. tony larussa became the second manager to win a world series in both leagues (won in 1989 with oakland. sparky anderson was the first - 1975 with cincinati and 1984 with detroit). the first world series for st. louis since 1982 and their 10th in franchise history. david eckstein was named world series mvp and got an new corvette z06.
world series game 4 the st. louis cardinals won 5-4 to go up three games to one in the series. detroit had a 3-0 lead, but st.louis chipped away and went ahead in the 7th. detroit tied it in the top of 8th, and david ecksteind drove in the winner in the bottom half of the 8th. game 5 tomorrow in st. louis - weather permitting.
game 4 world series and beijing mascot name change game four in st. louis was postponed to rain. it will be played tomorrow night, weather permitting. meanwhile the beijing mascots isn't named friendlies. they are named fuwa (literal, pinyin translation of friendlies. the name change happenend oct. 16.
world series game 3 the cardinals win game 3 5-0 behind a solid performance of chris carpenter, who threw an 8 inning gem giving up three hits. braden looper closed it up with a 1-2-3 9th. game four is tomorrow in st. louis.
subway 500 jimmie johnson won the subway 500. denny hamlin gave him a run, but finished 2nd. jeff burton had an engine failure and finished 42nd. matt kenseth finished 11th. kevin harvick was 9th. matt kenseth now leads the points by 36 points over kevin harvick. jimmie johnson moves to 3rd, while jeff burton falls to 5th. next race in atlanta.
world series game 2 detroit evened the series at one game apiece with a 3-1 win. kenny rogers pitched 8 innings of 2 hit ball. game 3 is tuesday night in st.louis.
world series game one anthony reyes pitched an outstanding game going 8+ giving up two runs and four hits in a st.louis 7-2 win over detriot. reyes went through a stretch where he didn't allow a runner in 17 straight batters. quite a piching performance. tomorrow it's jeff weaver for st. louis and kenny rogers for detroit.
nlcs game seven st. louis wins game seven with a 3-1 win. yadier molina hit a 2 run home run that decided it. earlier in the game endy chaves of the mets literally robbed scott rolen of a home run with a great leaping catch at the fence. he had athe presence to fire the ball back in to double off jim edmonds who was halfway to third thinking it was gone. anyways, its the cardinals and the tigers starting saturday. these teams have met in 1934 and 1968. st. louis won in '34 and detroit won in '68. gonna be a great series.
nlcs game 6 the mets have tied the series with a 4-2 win over the cardinals. the cardinals had a rally in the top of ninth to get the two runs, but fell short. game 7 tomorrow at shea stadium. the winner will face detroit in the world series starting saturday night.
nlcs game 5 st.louis won game 5 5-2. jeff weaver pitched well tonight. game six goes tomorrow with st.louis leading the series 3 games to 2. last time shea stadium hosted a game six - 1986 world series which the mets won the game 6-5 and the series in seven games.
lacking baseball the game in st.louis was called due to rain. so game five will be tomorrow night. game six is still wednesday.
nlcs game 4 the mets tied the series with a 12-5 win over the cardinals. 7 home runs by both teams tonight (4 by the mets 3 by st.louis). a 3 run 5th and a 6 run 6th inning did it for the mets. game 5 tomorrow in st. louis and game 6 is in new york on wednesday.
bank of america 500 kasey kahne won his 6th race of the year tonight. him and 2nd place jimmie johnson had the cars to beat tonight. dale earnhardt jr finished 4th. jeff gordon had an engine let go. he finished 24th. matt kenseth finished 14th with various issues. denny hamlin had a crash on the first lap and finished 29th. jeff burton finished 3rd and added to his points lead to 50 pts over matt kenseth. jefff gordon is 10th. jimmie johnson is 7th and dale jr is 5th. nest race in martinsville on the 22nd.
tigers win magglio ordonez has just put detroit into the world series with a 3 run homer in the bottom of the ninth to give detroit a 6-3 win and a four game sweep. detroits first world series trip since 1984. update: st. louis wins game 3 5-0 over the mets.
detroit one win away the tigers are one win away from the world series with a 3-0 win over oakland. kenny rogers (not the gambler) pitched 7 2/3 of shut out ball. st.louis @ n.y. mets start in half an hour. update: the mets were up 3-0 and 6-4 and still lost 9-6 to the cardinals. st. louis played gritty and hung in there the whole game. so taguchi hit the key home run that put st. louis up for good in the 9th inning. game 3 tomorrow in st. louis with series tied at one.
n.l.c.s. game one the mets take game one 2-0 with a great pitching performance by tom glavine, going seven innings. jeff weaver pitched good for st. louis giving up the carlos beltran two run homer. game two tomorrow night, while game three between detroit and oakland is tomorrow afternoon.
a.l.c.s. game 0ne detroit won the opener last night 5-1. the tigers were patient with the piches of barry zito, running the count on him. tonight the a's and tigers play game two whilt the cardinals and mets start the n.l.c.s. both start after 6pm tonight. update: cardinals @ mets ppd due to rain. series will start tomorrow with game 2 friday. update 2: detroit 8 oakland 5. oakland had the bases loaded in the bottom of 9th, but frank thomas popped out to end it. game 3 is friday
uaw ford 500 a controversial end to this. brian vickers wins after he touched jimmie johnson (intentional or not), which spun johnson into dale earnhardt jr on the last lap. earnhardt jr finished 23 and johnson finished 24th. jeff burton had a tire problem and finished 27th. jeff gordon got involved in an earlier wreck and finished 36th. matt kenseth finished 4th and closed in on jeff burton. kenseth trails by 6 pts. next race is saturday night in charlotte.
saturday night excitement got hockey night in canada going. watching montreal at toronto at the moment, with edmonton at calgary at 8pm. over in baseball, the tigers just knocked out the yankees with an 8-3 win and will face the oakland athletics in the a.l.c.s. the padres earlier beat the cardinals 3-1 and trail in the series 2-1. the mets and dodgers start shortly. update 1: montreal 3 toronto 2 in a shootout. man i love the shootout. the battle of alberta is now on. oilers lead 1-0. update 2: ny mets 9 los angeles 5. the mets move on to the n.l.c.s. they will play either san diego or st louis. game four there is tomorrow. update 3: calgary 2 edmonton 1. quite the game. a fun first saturday night in hockey.
more post season ball the yankees and tigers are currently playing. the tigers are up 3-0 in the 3rd inning. earlier today the oakland a's eliminated minnesota in three games with an 8-3 win. update on the tigers/yankees game later. update: tigers 6 ny yankees 0 kenny rogers of the tigers pitched 7 2/3 of excellent baseball. tigers up 2-1 with game four in detroit tomorrow
quite the thursday night boy was it ever. the oilers raised their 2005-06 western conference banner tonight AND beat the flames 3-1. the tigers tied their series with the yankees with a win, while the mets and the cardinals both went up 2 games to none over the dodgers and padres with wins. and i went to a gordon lightfoot concert, which was very good. i enjoyed it immensely. theres thursday night.
nhl season begins tonight the 90th nhl season begins tonight with 3 games (buffalo @ carolina, ottawa @ toronto and dallas @ colorado) carolina raises their stanley cup banner tonight. the oilers start at home tomorrow in the much anticipated opener. rexall place will be jumping and the oilers will raise their western conference championship banner tomorrow. an exciting time for sure.
postseason baseball the playoffs began yesterday with the oakland a's beating the minnesota twins 3-2, the yankees beating the detroit tigers 8-4 and st louis beating san diego 5-1. right now im watching the twins and a's in game 2 of that series. the mets and dodgers start their series a 2pm and the yankees and tigers play game two tonight. update: oakland 5 minnesota 2 (oakland leads series 2-0). ny mets 6 los angeles 5 (mets lead series 1-0) ny yankees vs detroit ppd due to rain. game 2 will be tomorrow morning
banquet 400 tony stewart hung on to this one. won as he ran out of gas. kasey kahne ran out of gas. jimmie johnson got caught for speeding leaving pit lane on his last pit stop. 2nd place casey mears ran out of gas getting to the finish. jeff gordon had a fuel pump problem and finished 39th. jeff burton still leads - its now 69 points. jeff gordon sits 6th. denny hamlin is 2nd in the points. quite a finish to this one. next up - talladega.
