1964 (XVIII Olympiad) games

 These games were held in Tokyo Japan from October 10-24 1964. 93 nations and 5137 athletes participated. First games in Asia. South Africa excluded from games due to apartheid regime. Games first to be televised internationally.  Yoshinori Sakai lit the cauldron. He was born in Hiroshima on August 6 1945, same day the atomic bomb was dropped on city. Judo, volleyball and women's pentathlon added. Abebe Bikila defended marathon gold. Joe Frazier wins boxing gold with broken thumb. Last games to use cinder track. Zambia gains Independence on last day of games, becoming first to enter as one nation, and leave as another. United States won most gold (36), Soviet Union won most overall with 96. Japan won 16g, 5s, 8b for 29 total. Canada won 1g, 2s, 1b for 4 total. Tomorrow - 1968 in Mexico City. Here is the emblem for today.
