1924 summer games (VIII Olympiad)

 Paris was host of the VIII Olympiad, which ran from July 5 to 27. 44 nations and 3089 athletes participated.  Last games under Pierre de Coubertin. Opening ceremony and several events held at Olympic stadium of Colombes. The "flying Finns" dominated long distance. Paavo Nurmi won 1500m and 5000m. Ville Ritola won 10000m and 3000m steeplechase and silver in 5000m. Albin Stenroos won the marathon and the Finns won 3000m and cross country team events. Marathon fixed at 26.219 miles. First games to have standard 50m pool and lanes. Citius, altius, fortius used for first time.  First games to have Olympic village. United States won most gold and overall (45g and 99 total). Host France had 13g, 15s, 10b 38 total. Canada won 3s and 1b for 4 total. Tomorrow is 1928. Here is the first emblem for the summer games.
