today in baseball

on this night in baseball in 1977, Reggie Jackson hits three consecutive home runs off of three different pitchers on three consecutive hits in game six of the world series against the Dodgers. his home runs were: 1. a first pitch two run home run off of Burt Hooton to put the Yankees up 4-3 in the 4th inning. Lou Pinella hit a sacrifice fly later to make it 5-3. 2. a first pitch two run home run off of Elias Sosa to extend their lead to 7-3 in the 5th. 3. in the 8th he hit a first pitch solo shot off Charlie Hough to make it 8-3. the Yankees win the game 8-4 and the series four games to two. he became the first player since Babe Ruth in 1926 and 1928 to homer three times in a game. also, with his last at bat in game 5 and the walk in his first appearance in this game, he homered in his last official at bats (walks are not an official at bat) off of four different pitchers and with the walk, his at bats produced runs. Chris Chambliss homered after Jackson walk.
