one drought ends, an "Angel"ic win and a thriller in St. Louis

today in 2004, the Boston Red Sox end a 86 year drought as they finish off a four game sweep in St.Louis to win the world series, thus also ending "the curse of the Bambino" they were the 4th team to win a world series without trailing in any of their games. Derek Lowe became the first pitcher to win three series clinching games (gm 3 of ALDS vs Angels, gm 7 of ALCS vs Yankees and gm 4 of World Series vs Cardinals). in 2002, the Angels beat the Giants to win their first ever world series winning game 7 4-1. it proved to be somewhat anti climatic after winning game 6 6-5 after trailing 5-0 when they came to bat in the bottom of 7th. they had lost the first game of all three series and rebounded to win each one. they were also the first A.L. World Series winner that was not from the A.L. East since the 1991 Minnesota Twins (Toronto in 1992 and 1993, Yankees in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000). in 2011 the Cardinals won an absolute thriller of a game six against the Texas Rangers. Texas had built a 7-4 lead after 7 and a half innings. botton of the 8th, the Cardinals score one as Allan Craig (who came in to replace Matt Holliday, who had hurt a finger sliding back into third base to avoid getting picked off and got tagged out) hit a solo homer to make it 7-5. Texas got nothing in the top of 9th. bottom 9th, Neftali Feliz came in to close out the series for Texas. he began by striking out Ryan Theriot. Albert Pujols then hit a double. Lance Berkman then walked. Allan Craing struck out. down to his last strike (count was a ball and two strikes), David Freese hits one over a leaping Nelson Cruz and got a two run triple out of it to tie the game. now goint to the top of 10th, Josh Hamilton hit a towering two run homer to put Texas up 9-7. bottom 10th and out of bench players and was facing elimiation again. Daniel Descalso and Jon Jay hit back to back singles. Kyle Lohse puts down a sac bunt to move the runners to second and third. Theriot grounded out, scoring Desalso making it 9-8. Pujols was intentionally walked. Berkman come up and with the count 2 and 2, and again down to their last strike, Berkman hits Scott Feldman's next pitch into center field to Score Jon Jay to tie the game. it was the first time in world series history that a team came back from two different two run deficits in the 9th inning and later in the same game. top 11th Texas got nothing. bottom 11th Freese came up to lead off for the Cardinals. he hit Mark Lowe's 3 balls and 2 strikes pitch into the centre field grass for a home run to win the game 10-9, forcing a game seven. the walk off was the fourth in a game six in world series history. the Cardinals set two milestones. 1. they were the first team to score a run in the 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th innings. and 2. they were the first team to come back from deficits in the 9th and 10th innings. Freese and Berkman were the third and fourth players in World Series history to get game tying hits with their team one out (and in their cases one strike) away from elimination.
