on this day in.....

today in 1986, Boston score four in the top of the 9th inning, culminating in Dave Henderson's two run home run off of Donnie Moore, temporarily going up 6-5. the Angels tie it in the bottom of the 9th. Henderson then hits a sac fly in the top of 11th to put them up 7-6. that is how the game ends. the Angels were within one strike from ending the game in the ninth before Henderson hit his home run. also on this day in 1987, the Minnesota Twins - with the worst record among the four teams in this years postseason at 85-77 - caps off a stunner as they beat Detroit 9-5 in game five and the series four games to one. Detroit had a 98-64 record coming in. the Twins eventually win the world series over the Cardinals in seven games (all the wins were home team wins).
