on this day in baseball in 1973

during game 5 of the NLCS between the New York Mets and Cincinnati Reds, and during a supreme court hearing, Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart receives a note from his clerk. on that note, it says "Kranepool (Ed) flies to right, Agnew (Spiro) resigns." Ed Kranepool played with the Mets as they beat the Reds 7-2 in game 5 and the series 4-1. they lost to the Oakland A's in the world series. Spiro Agnew had resigned over charges of tax evasion.
