2010 winter Olympics

 The 21st edition of the winter Olympics was held in Vancouver BC from February 12-28. 82 nations and 2626 athletes participated in the games.

1. Alexander Bilodeau won Canada's first gold on home soil on the first night of the games, winning in moguls.

2. First opening ceremonies to be held indoors. (BC Place).

3. Cayman Islands, Colombia, Ghana, Montenegro, Pakistan, Peru, and Serbia made their winter debut here.

4. Slovakia and Belarus win first golds here.

5. Sidney Crosby scores the "Golden Goal" giving Canada a 3-2 win over the USA in overtime on the last event of the games.  This gold gives Canada 14 golds, breaking a record shared by Norway (2002) and Soviet Union (1976) who each had 13. Canada finished with 26 overall (14g, 7s, 5b). USA broke the record for most overall with 37 (9g, 15s, 13b). Germany had 36 in 2002.
