1994 winter Olympics

 The 17th edition of the winter Olympics was held in Lillehammer Norway from February 12-27. 67 nations and 1737 athletes participated in these games. 

1. 14 nations made their debut hero, including 9 former Soviet republics.

2. New stricter qualifying rules began at these games.

3. Two new distances were added to short track speed skating, and aeriels were added as well. Also speed skating was indoors from these games onwards.

4. Manuela Di Centa (5 for Italy) and Lyubov Yegorova (4 for Russia) dominated women's cross country skiing.

5. A crowd of 100,000 saw Italy beat Norway by 0.4s in the 4x5 men's cross country relay.

6. Oksana Baiul wins the first ever gold medal for Ukraine, beating out Nancy Kerrigan.

7. Sweden wins it's first hockey gold, beating Canada in a shootout in the final (I watched that game)

8. One podium sweep. It happened on February 13 in the men's combined. Lasse Kjus, Kjetil Andre Aamodt and Harald Christian Strand Nilsen won gold, silver and bronze for Norway.

9. Russia finished with most golds with 11 (11g, 8s, 4b for 23) Norway won the most overall medals with 26 (10g, 11s, 5b).
