1966 British empire and Commonwealth games

 These games were hosted by Kingston Jamaica from August 4-13. 34 nations,  1050 athletes and 256 coaches competed in 110 events and 10 sports.  Lawn bowls and rowing were dropped for badminton and shooting. Final games in which athletics used imperial measurements. Metric was used going forward starting in 1970. Prince Philip opened the games and was accompanied by some future king and princess Anne. That future king is prince Charles. Antigua and Barbuda, South Arabia (South Yemen) and Tanzania debuted here.  England was first in golds and total with 37g, 24s, 23b for 80 total. Australia was 2nd with 23g 28s 22b for 73 total.  Canada was 3rd with 14g, 20s, 23b for 57 total.  New Zealand was 4th with 8g, 5s, 13b for 26 total. Host nation Jamaica was 5th overall with 4s and 8b for 12 total. Only host nation to not win a gold on home games. India and Nigeria reached 10 total (3g, 4s, 3b).
