1938 Commonwealth Games

The 1938 British empire Games (as they were still known as) was held in Sydney Australia from February 5 to 12 (in late summer for Australia). 15 nations and 464 athletes participated in 71 events. These games coincided with Sydney's sesquicentenary (150th anniversary of the founding of Sydney). They were opened by John Loder, 2nd Baron Wakehurst. The Sydney cricket grounds were main venue.  The Sydney sports ground, North Sydney Olympic ground and Hensen park were also used. Australian Decima Norman was the star with 5 golds in track and field. Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). Makes first appearance as well as Fiji 🇫🇯 (I think).  Australia was first in golds and total (25g, 19s, 22b 66t), Canada was 2nd overall and third in golds (13g, 16s, 15b 44t). England was 2nd in golds and 3rd overall (15g, 15s, 10b 40t). South Africa had 26 total and New Zealand had 22. That is the top 5. No Newfoundland in this one. With WWII starting in 1939, the next games is 1950 in Auckland New Zealand.  Here is the poster for this one.
