1904 summer games (III Olympiad)

The games of the III Olympiad were in St Louis Missouri from July 1-November 23. 648 athletes and 12 participated. Russo-Japanese war tensions and travel difficulties accounted for low participation. Boxing, dumbbells and freestyle wrestling debuted here. Lifesaving demonstrations were held on a temporary pond on Skinker and Wyodun Boulevards. George Eyser won 6 medals with a wooden left leg. Frank Kugler won four medals in wrestling, weightlifting and tug of war. He is the first to win medals in 3 disciplines. USA ran away with the medal haul (had the most athletes) with 76g and 231 total. Canada won 4g, 1s, 1b for 6 total. Tomorrow, the games of the IV Olympiad. Here is the poster for today's entry.
