merry christmas have a safe and merry christmas. and enjoy unwrapping the presents.
welcome to winter bigtime officialy winterbegan today. from cold weather to snow storms, much of north america has seen it all. travel plans have gone askew, roads are rough and people stranded everywhere. so a nasty winter already. and a white christmas.
im dreaming of a white christmas with the cold weather here and the amount of snow we have, its liable to happen. with a slow warm up to wednesday, it will happen. so yay for that.
cold weather arrives near red green after a hockey game the cold weather is on the doorstep and the wind has a bite already. bundle up or stay home. why freeze? i finally got the red green show - the 2000 season on monday. already a few episodes into it and already a craving for m&m's. goes back to when the show first started airing and i was always munching a bag of m&m's. was at the oilers game last night and boy was it a bummer of a game. lost to the florida panthers 2-0 despite outshooting the panthers 41-15. their goalie saw all the shots, gave up no rebounds at all. plus the oilers didnt forecheck, crash the net or had much energy at all. it was frustrating to watch. next time - hopefully.
lousy cold and confusing weather been dealing wiht a cold the last few days. not exactly fun. and i still have it a bit. no wonder ive been feeling lazy lol. i think weve ditched the freezing rain. it was a rain/snow mix a few days ago. its snowing now and its supposed to sonow again tomorrow and friday. from what global is saying, we could hit highs of -20 by the weekend. and global has been pretty accurate with their forecasts. theyve only shown the four day forecast. so the six day will be interesting.
december has arrived december has arrived via a gust of wind and a bunch of snow in northern alberta. rest of alberta still waiting for snow to show up even thouhg a couple of local ski hills opened up with man made snow. with lots of hockey and nfl football, it will be a good month for sure. hopefully it will snow here
end of november already. cant believe it's the end of november. still trying to figure out where it went. let's see what happened. 1. jimmie johnson wins third straight nascar championship. 2. calgary stampeders wins the 96th edition of the grey cup. 3. it snowed twice and disappeared twice. although its supposed to cool off and snow in the next couple of days. on to december we go.
96th grey cup in montreal the calgary stampeters just beat the montreal allouettes 22-14 in the 96th edition of the grey cup. the calgary defense was huge in the second half holding montreal to one point. calgary's touchdown late in the first half i think was the turning poing. sandro deangelis was named most valuable canadian and henry burris was named most valueable player. so theres another cfl season.
jimmie johnson 3 in a row champion with a 15th place finish, jimmie johnson has won his third championship in a row and chad knaus became the first crew chief ti win 3 in a row. last driver to win thre straight championships was cale yarborough in 1976-77-78
cfl division final saturday it will be the montreal alouettes and the calgary stampeders for the grey cup. the alouetes beat the eskimos 36-26 in the east final. in the west the stampeders beat the lions 22-18 to go to the grey cup. so the 96th grey cup will be nov.23 in montreal. a "home game" for the als. im guessing it will be sold out
jimmie johnson wins in phoenix, closer to history ji mmie johnson won his 7th race in phoenix by beating out kurt busch by a couple of car lengths. the win plus carl edwards finishing fourth moves johnson 141 points ahead of edwards. with the finale in homestead on sunday, johnson needs to finish 36th or better to win the championship. if he does he will be the first driver since cale yarborough in the late '70s to win three championships in a row.
cfl division semi final saturday the edmonton eskimos, who finished 4th in the west and got the crossover spot (by virtue of having more points than the third and 4th place team in the east), beat the winnipeg blue bombers 29-21 in the east semi final. they play the montreal allouettes in the east final next saturday. meanwhile in regina, the b.c. lions beat the saskatchewan roughriders 33-12 and will go to calgary to play the stampeders in the west final, also next saturday. can you believe it? last years grey cup finalists are out. with the riders out, there will be new grey cup champs.
barack obama the 44th united states president barack obama has become the first african american to become president of the united states. with cnn projections pegging him winning 297 electoral votes (270 needed) and beating john mccain convincingly, even with the popular votes close. he will be sworn in on january 20th 2009.
carl edwards wins in texas carl edward won his 8th race of the year and it took fuel mileage for the umpteenth time. jimmie johnson finished 15th and his points lead is now 106. this chase is nowhere year over. there two races left - phoenix and homestead. it will be a great finish
welcome to november november is what i call championship month because of 1. the nascar championship and 2. the grey cup. the run starts this weekend with the last weekend of the cfl regular season and the final three races to determine a championship. gonna be a great finishe in both ways
the night when ghosts and goblins go nutsy coocoo its the night when little runts go door to door for free candy. also the time where i can hide from them. hopefully not rotten teeth, but the sugar rush can make one nutsy coocoo.

red sox do it again the red sox win game 6 4-2 to force a 7th game tomorrow night in tampa bay. two key two out hits sealed it - a jason varitek homer and a david ortiz rbi base hit. the winner of game seven tomorrow night goes to the world series.
can you believe this one at fenway? tampa bay HAD a 7 run lead - and lost 8-7. j.d. drew hit the game winninh base hit for the red sox who scored 4 in the 7th (helped by david ortiz 3 run homer) and a 3 run 8th helped by drew's two run homer. so we go back to tampa bay and game 6 saturday night. tampa bay still leads 3 games to 2. this series isn't over yet.
phillies in world series the philadelphia phillies are in a world series with a 5-1 win in game five and a four games to one series win. they will face either tampa bay or boston. cole hamels won the national league mvp.
election night and rays stranglehold on red sox its election night and by looks of the results so far and by projections the conservatives will have a minority government. 155 seats to get majority and they have 145 at the moment. eeek (in a comical way) meanwhile in boston, the rays are killing the red sox 13-2 in the 8th inning. theyre likely going up 3-1 in the series. update: tampa bay 13 boston 4. rays are up 3 games to 1 and can go to the world series thursday night in boston

where i am - or is it where am i? i dont know, but my head finally stopped spinning after the baseball events of the weekend. like philadelphia phillies winning the national league east, the l.a. dodgers winning the n.l. west and today the milwaukee brewers winning the wild card. the national league division series match-ups are: the phillies vs the brewers and the cubs vs the dodgers. the tampa bay rays are american league east winners, the red sox are wild card winners and the l.a. angels are the west winners. the central is up in the air as minnesota (at 88-74) leads the white sox by 1/2 a game(87-74). the white sox will play detroit tomorrow (a make up game from earlier this month due to rain). if the white sox win, they will play the twins tuesday in a one game playoff for the central. if the sox lose, the twins win. lost in this was a car race that was won by jimmie johnson today. he's now leading the points after the third of 10 playoff races. kyle busch struggled ...
welcome to fall its the first official day of fall. started at 9:44am and boy it feels like it. its rainy and windy. and the leaves are flying off the trees like nothing. its supposed to be fall like for the upcoming week so stay warm.

a rare cubs feat the chicago cubs made it to the post season in back to back seasons in a century by winning the nl central division. in 1907 and 1908 was the last time the did it, which is the last time they won a world series.
a no hit sunday in milwaukee no it does not involve the brewers. the cubs and astros are using miller park in milwaukee to play two games (tonight and tomorrow) due to hurricane ike. anyways carlos zambrano of the cubs just finished throwing a no hitter against the astros in a 5-0 win. he is the 8th cubs pitcher since 1900 to throw one. an accomplishment to remember.
"save"ing history francisco rodriguez of the los angeles angels recorded his 58th save in a 5-2 win over the seattle mariners, breaking the old record of 57 set by bobby thigpen in 1990. it will be likely that rodriguez will hit 60 by the end of the season, which ends on the 28th of this month.
weather mayhem weather mayhem all over, and not just hurricane ike. hurricane ike has the potential of major damage. the cubs and astros had to postpone the game tonight and tomorrow for safety reasons. five other games further east were rained out (detroit at chicago, minnesota at baltimore, atlanta at n.y. mets, tampa bay at n.y. yankees, and milwaukee at philadelphia). the game in philly wil be made up on sunday. the other four in brackets will be made up tomorrow plus toronto at boston and kansas city at cleveland has double headers from previous rainouts. gonna be ugly - or fun.
monday night after sunday mayhem just finished watching green bay beat minnesota 24-19 in the first half of the monday night doubleheader. up next is denver at oakland. this follows a busy sunday with the full slate of week one nfl games that followed the giants beatin the redskins last thursday. plus a plethera of baseball games and jimmie johnson winning his second race in a row yesterday. ten races to go and twelve drivers in the race for the championship. gonna get good.
a good day to remember day after labor day means the kids are back in school for another year. also i picked up season 10 of cheers. that came out today. and today marked the return of radios best duo ever after 14 years. yep this morning on 96.3 capital fm marked the return of rob christie and audie lyns together on the radio. they havent lost their touch either from what i heard this morning. i remember listening to them when i was in grade school during the 80s. they were on 630 ched then (when ched was a music station) and power 92 (now 92.5 joe fm). there was even a launch party for them today too. 96.3 is in west edmonton mall as one of the newcap radio stations. one of the people at the table let me go see them which was cool. anyways a good day to remember.
labour day classics edmonton beat calgary 36-17 in calgary this afternoon. right now toronto is playing hamilton at ivor wynne stadium. update. toronto 34 hamilton 31
end of august musings end of august. im watching the series finale of frasier. afterwards i will join the car race in california already in progress. cant believe august is over. we had the beijing summer olympics, lots of cfl football, baseball, my birthday, one heck of a heat wave and a sickness thats almost gone. for now thats it. until tomorrow. update: jimmie johnson dominated leadind 227 of 250 laps in winning in fontana
long weekend already? sadly yes. and the end of august is on sunday. can't believe august is almost done. seems like it just started. and the labour day classic in calgary is monday. even toronto and hamilton meet up out east. two heated rivalries on one day. cant get better than that
closing ceremonies and afterthought watching the closing ceremonies that i taped this morning. and it was quite the show. canada finished with 18 medals, which is a pretty good showing. hopefully more than that come the next summer games in 2012 in london. the vancouver 2010 winter games come next. after watching the olympics the last 17 days, it will be a shock to turn on the tv and watching something else. anyways thats the beijing games, from fantastic performances, close finishes, and close-to-medalling finishes. a good show to say the least.
canada's flag bearer at the closing ceremonies is....... ...... karen cockburn. she was selected by the canadian olympic comittee. the closing ceremonies is tomorrow morning here.
adam's redemption adam van kouverden got a silver in the k-1 500m kayaking event. redemption bigtime. after the 8th place yesterday, he knew he had to make it up and did so. now its 3g 9s and 6b. not much events left. and the closing ceremonies is tomorrow morning here. damn almost done already.
two more medals a silver from karine sergerie in taekwondo -welter (57-67kg) final and a bronze from thomas hall in c-1 1000m event. surprising that adam van kouverden didnt win a medal today. hes bummed about it, yet hes got another chance tomorrow in the k-1 500m. so now we have 3g, 8s and 6b for 17 total. now its one less than barcelona 1992. 17 is already their third best total in a non-boycott year (canada got 44 in 1984 when the eastern bloc countries boycotted the l.a. games for the 1980 moscow boycott). hopefully more tomorrow.
a gold and a silver eric lamaze won gold in the individual portion of the equestrian event. great to see coming fronm the past he had. emilie heymans won silver in the 10m platform diving event. so now we have 3g 7s and 5b for 15 total passing sydney 2000 and tying l.a. 1932 and amsterdam 1928. hopefullly more coming.
more medals in. and maybe more to come last night, simon whitfield won silver in the triathlon after getting passed by a german. today 2 silvers anda bronze. alexander despatie won a silver in the 3m springboard diving event. jason burnett won silver in the mens individual trampoline event. and the bronze went to priscilla lopes-schliep in the womens 100m hurdles event. with 2g, 6s and 5b = 13total, we now won more medals in beijing than in athens when canada had 12 there.
two more medals for canada two more silvers for canada. first in the equestrian mixed team event (includes 61 year old ian miller whos in his 9th olympics). the second silver comes from karen cockburn in trampoline. so now we have 2g 3s and 4g = 9 medals
a hatrick of medals 3 more rowing medals for canada overnight and this morning here. a gold from the mens 8 with cox (kevin light, benjamin rutledge, andrew byrnes, jacob wetzel, malcolm howard, dominic seiterle, adam kreek, kyle hamilton and brian price on the team), also a bronze from the mens lightweight sculls (iain brambell, jonathan beare, mike lewis and liam parsons on the team), and a bronze from womens pairs lightweight sculls (melanie kok and tracy cameron on the team). so canada now has 7 medals ( 2g 1s and 4b).
he did it. 8 michael phelps has 8 gold medals. after the first two swimmers, he got his team in front in his leg of the 4x100m medley and jason lezak finished it. phelps broke mark spitz record of most golds in one olympics and the team got (no surprise) a world record. a hearty congrats to phelps and to his team.
a bronze in the pool no. not phelps. ryan cochrane of victoria b.c. won bronze in the 1500m freestyle just a few minutes ago. that makes 4 medals now - 1g 1s and 2b. michael phelps comes up in a few minutes.
canada FINALLY picks up some medals canada got three while i was at work. a gold bycarol huynh in wrestling freestyle 48 kg, a silver by david calder and scottfrandsen in mens rowing the coxless pairs, and a bronze by tonya verbeek in wrestling freestyle 55kg. hopefully more to come. on the cbc now its the womens marathon.
7 michael phelps JUST BARELY won his 7th gold. he won the 100m butterfly by .01 over milorad cavic who was leading 3/4s of the way through. he's got one more - a 4 x 100m medley.
phelps now with 6 golds yep he just won the 200m individual medley (freestyle, breast stroke, butterfly and back stroke - although not in that order) and he won it in, what else, a world record time. this guy is really impressed me alot - and he's 23.
he's got another one phelps just won the 200m butterfly. thats four in beijing to go with the 6 in athens in 2004. he now owns the most career golds with 10 passing mark spitz's 9. update: now its FIVE. phelps and the u.s. relay team won the 4 x 200m freestyle in world record time. all five of phelps golds have been world records. canada was in this race and finished 5th.
hat trick for phelps he won the 200m freestyle tonight. won it running away - or swimming away. he tied mark spitz record of career gold with 9. he is to swim in the 200m butterfly semi final in a little while. he'll need a good time to get to the final. the final is tomorrow with that. and no medals as of yet for canada.
michael phelps with two - albeit barely phelps and the u.s. 4 x 100m frestyle relay beat the french team by .08 seconds when the u.s anchor got close the the lane barrier to "drag" off the frenchman (the french were leading at the time) at the last 50m and beat him to the wall. quite a finish. canada was in the relay and finished 6th.
michael phelps - first of eight golds? michael phelps on the 400m individual medley. i heard theres a chance he can win eight golds to beat mark spitz's record of seven in one olympics. we shall see.
the olympics have arrived the cauldron is lit. the athletes are in beijing. and the opening ceremonies was a wonderful blend of art and history. and the way the cauldron was lot was cool. now we focus on the sports and in an hour or two, the mens road race is set to go and kyle shewfelt is up in mens gymnastics late tonight. and the dressage in equestrian is happening in hong kong. so thats some of the events already happening or about to happen. there is a 14 hour difference between here and beijing (its 10:32 am in beijing as i write this). so let the games begin. update: first gold medal goes to katerina emmons of the czech republic in the 10m air rifle.
brett favre a jet. it finally happened. my fave quarterback is a new york jet. i still like the packers, but the way they handled favre wanting back was poorly done. i only blame favre for retiring, thats it. then again from what he said, the packers front office were reluctant to keep him. then when favre wanted to play again, he was told 'we wont let you go, and we dont want you here' for fear of him going to a division rival. the nfl accepted favre's wanting back. the packers eventually let favre go to the jets for a conditional pick. im still going to cheer for brett and the jets. im not so sure about green bay.
an almost "perfect" day jeff karstens of the pittsburgh pirates threw 7 2/3 innings of perfect baseball before chris young of the arizona diamondbacks singled in the 8th inning. karsens threw a complete 2 hit shutout win and the pittsburgh pirates won 2-0.
weather insanity in the windy city nasty weather in chicago last night had fans fleeing wrigley field in a torrential downpour as a nasty storm passed through. the game between the houston astros and the chicago cubs was ended after the 8th inning with houston winning 2-0. i think everyone was safe. quite an insane thing.
a day amongst others sitting here on a saturday night watching an episode from season 10 of the simpsons - the treehouse of horrors IX and enjoying my birthday. its been a good day - minus a few afternoon hours at work (the morning part was good). getting hungry for food.
end of july. finally finally the last day of july. the last couple of weeks felt really slow. even with capital ex and the rexall indy here, it still took an eternity to get here. hopefully august flies by. heritage days are this weekend and the fringe is later this month. oh yeah the olympics. hoefully august and the rest of summer goes fast.
an unsummerlike day man, is it ever. rainy, cool and more fall like. 12 degrees at the moment. by the weekned its supposed to be nice again. not overly hot acording to global. just seen the 4-day and its supposed to be sunny and 21 and 22 on saturday and sunday. comfy weather.
allstate 400 at the brickyard jimmie johnson wins a 'tire'ing race. the race was marred by rather rapid tire wear. goodyear, from what i read didnt have the best tires there. anyways johnson wins his 2nd of the year.
rexall edmonton indy scott dixon won the first indy racing leagues first edmonton race (first since the i.r.l. and champ car merge). paul tracy, running his second race this year here, started 15th and finished 4th. helio castroneves stayed close with dixon and almost took himself out on old tires and finished 2nd.
a weekend of business and fun its a busy weekend. there's the rexall indy at the city centre airport (blatchford field to some), capital ex, there's a word baseball championship at telus field and the world canoe polo championships at hawerlack park. plus the weather is great for these events. people should go while its still here. enjoy while you can.

the olympic poster the poster was unveiled on sunday for the olympics in august. another thing added to my olympic collection. enjoy.
saskatchewan 4-0? yep the riders just beat montreal 41-33 to run their record to 4 wins in 4 games. first time the've done that since 1970. they went 14-2 that year and coaching then was eagle keys. fascinating stat.
m.l.b. midsummer classic the american league wins the 2008 all-start game at yankee stadium with a 4-3 win in 15 innings on a sacrifice fly by michael young scoring justin morneau from 3rd in a close play at the plate. the game tied a record for longest game by innings (15) and broke a record for longest game by time at 4h50m. the american league is unbeaten in the last 12 all-star games (including the tie game in 2002). the managers of boht the a.l. and n.l. are happy in one respect - they had used their last pitchers that were available for the game. j.d. drew wins the ted williams trophy for all-star mvp and wins a 2009 chevy tahoe hybrid in the process. a long night.
