the boston redsox, with their win over minnesota plus the yankees loss over baltimore, takes the a.l. east. the yankees gets the wild card. meanwhile, the chicago cubs win the n.l central by beating cincinnati coupled with the milwaukee loss to san diego. playoffs begin tuesday.
