1954-55 NHL season

The 1954-55 NHL season still had 6 teams and a 70 game schedule. Notable events include: 1. Terry Sawchuk became first goalie to have 3 40 win seasons. 2. Dick Irvin Sr first coach to 100 playoff wins. March 10, zamboni used for first time in Montreal. December 8 Maurice Richard scores goal 400.  March 13 in Boston, Hal Laycoe of Boston high sticks Maurice Richard. Richard tries to get to Laycoe when linesman Cliff Thompson tries to hold Richard back. After a couple of attemps, Richard turns around and punches Thompson and knocks him out before chasing Laycoe. Clarence Campbell suspends Richard for rest of regular season AND the playoffs. March 17 Campbell attends game in Montreal (ballsy or stupid. You decide). Fans see him and starts pelting him with stuff before rioting. Somehow Campbell got out of the Forum. The riot spills onto the streets of Montreal with looting. Game got forfeited to Detroit (I think it was Detroit). How to overshadow a season. Playoffs had: SF:  Detroit swept Toronto 4-0 and Montreal beat Boston 4-1. Stanley Cup final had Detroit beat Montreal 4-3. Detroit's 7th championship and third in four years. Next season is 1955-56, and a new dynasty begins.
