1954-55 NHL season

The 1954-55 NHL season still had 6 teams and a 70 game schedule. Notable events include: 1. Terry Sawchuk became first goalie to have 3 40 win seasons. 2. Dick Irvin Sr first coach to 100 playoff wins. March 10, zamboni used for first time in Montreal. December 8 Maurice Richard scores goal 400.  March 13 in Boston, Hal Laycoe of Boston high sticks Maurice Richard. Richard tries to get to Laycoe when linesman Cliff Thompson tries to hold Richard back. After a couple of attemps, Richard turns around and punches Thompson and knocks him out before chasing Laycoe. Clarence Campbell suspends Richard for rest of regular season AND the playoffs. March 17 Campbell attends game in Montreal (ballsy or stupid. You decide). Fans see him and starts pelting him with stuff before rioting. Somehow Campbell got out of the Forum. The riot spills onto the streets of Montreal with looting. Game got forfeited to Detroit (I think it was Detroit). How to overshadow a season. Playoffs had: SF: ...

Geez Canada had a pretty good championships in Budapest. The meet ended today and Canada us coming home with 3g, 4s and 4b for 11 total. Beat their previous high of 9.   I'm pretty excited for this years Commonwealth games. I'm excited for Paris 2024.

Summer has officially arrived

Summer officially began at 3:14 am Prince Albert time this morning.  It's the longest day of the year in daylight hours.  Even though here it's cloudy out. Summer has already made an appearance or two already.  30c here on Saturday and had a good downpour yesterday. Everyone at work could hear it on the roof. Luckily i left work afterwards. I'd rather be slightly damp than drenched. So happy summer solstice.

Run to the Memorial Cup has begun

Saint John New Brunswick is host this year and the home team began with a 5-3 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs. Tomorrow has the Edmonton Oil Kings vs Shawinigan Cataractes. First Memorial Cup since 2019. Who will take the tournament? Stay tuned.

2026 world cup cities chosen

Vancouver and Toronto are the two Canadian cities chosen for 10 games for the 2026 World Cup. Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterey are the Mexican cities. Atlanta, New York City, Miami, Los Angeles, Kansas City, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Philadelphia, Seattle and San Francisco are the USA cities.  No schedule dates yet.

Canada's lawn bowling team

The following will be representing Canada at the Commonwealth games in lawn bowling (yes there is lawn bowling): Ryan Bester, John Bezear, Rob Law, Cam Lefresne, Greg Wilson, Jordan Kos, Jacqueline Foster, Leanne Chinery, Jennifer MacDonald and Kelly McKerihen. Good luck to all in Birmingham England.

Last world cup spot goes to.......

........... Costa Rica.  They beat New Zealand 1-0 in the last inter conference game.  They scored 3 minutes into the game and hung on. They will go into group E with Spain, Germany and Japan. I read this group got tagged the "group of death."  Yikes.  Tournament starts November 21.

Again, here is something neat

This time it's Hans Island.  Hans Island is between Greenland and Ellesmere Island. It's 18km away from both Islands.  Both Canada and Denmark have been waging a friendly war planting their nations flag and leaving Danish schnapps or Canadian whisky. It had been going on since 1973.  Until today. Both agreed to put the border along a rift in the island.  Nothing is really on the island.  Something neat.

World cup going "down under"

Australia is heading for the World Cup after beating Peru in penalties 5-4. The whole game went scoreless until penalty kicks.  Australia will be in group D with France, Denmark and Tunisia.  Tomorrow has Costa Rica vs New Zealand to decide the last spot.

154th Belmont Stakes

The final jewel in the triple Crown was won by Mo Donegal, with a winning time of 2:28.28.  Irad Ortiz Jr was winning jockey and Todd Pletcher was winning jockey.  Three different winners for this year. Stay tuned if we have a triple Crown winner next year.

Lightning knocks out New York

It will be the Colorado Avalanche vs the Tampa Bay Lightning for the Stanley Cup. Tampa Bay just won game 6 2-1 to eliminate tge New York Rangers 4-2. Stanley Cup final starts Wednesday.

CFL opener

Pretty good game tonight.  Montreal was up at the half 24-14, and Calgary rallied to win 30-27. Tomorrow has Ottawa at Winnipeg, Saturday has Hamilton at Saskatchewan and Edmonton at B.C. to round out the opening week.

Here is something neat

Back on May 28, Hamilton's Lucas McAneny won the Buffalo marathon and won in the time of 2h 33m 32s and won by 16 seconds. The neat part - he was pushing 2 year old son Sutton in his stroller as Lucas ran. So technically a 2 year old "won."  How about that eh.

Random thoughts

Hmmmm things i miss: eating M&Ms while watching the Red Green show, being at a CFL game, meeting people and seeing old friends at CFL game, meeting the cheer team at CFL game.  I'm close enough to two CFL cities to go to.  Regina and Edmonton.  Things i need:  rest of my stuff sitting in storage in Edmonton.  Things i could go for:  M&Ms, more tattoos and a girlfriend.  And more weight lost. People I'd like to meet: Sher & Lil (super rugby fans) and Devin Heroux. Maybe some CFL fans as well.  Three road trips i need: two to Edmonton. A CFL game and to get the rest of my stuff. The third to Regina. A CFL game plus a visit with my sister.  I think thats it for now.

Avalanche bury Oilers

The Colorado Avalanche are in the Stanley Cup final after sweeping the Oilers four straight. Colorado was the far better team here.  They will get either Tampa Bay or New York.

Wales to world cup.

Wales beat Ukraine 1-0 to take the last European qualifying spot for Qatar.  First appearance since 1958 when they got to the quarterfinals. They will be in group B with England, Iran and United States.

Hello June

Well hello June, how are you?  Good to see you. What do you have for me? What? NHL playoffs reaching the end? Great. Huh? Baseball? I see you have that too. I see you have some NASCAR.  What's this? You're telling me the CFL starts soon?  Wonderfully awesome and fantastic. Now i need a road trip to Edmonton or Regina for a game or two.  Summer time is here and its great. Let's see what else you bring me June.
