On this day

 On this day in 1981, Wayne Gretzky scores five goals against the Philadelphia Flyers in a 7-5 win. His fifth, into an empty net with three seconds left, was his 50th of the season in his 39th game. 50 in 39 still stands as an NHL record.  Tim Dancy had the call in Edmonton. Don Cherry says "he's got 50 before anyone's got 30." Remarkable. There's another record he sets later in the 1981-82 season and it's one Phil Esposito had.
