1983-39 NHL season

This season had 7 teams and a 48 game schedule. Notable news: 1. Tiny Thompson of Boston gets injured, forcing GM Art Ross to take a chance on Frank Brimseck.  Once Thompson became healthy, he was sold to Detroit. The choice to keep Brimseck would pay off. He sets a record of three shutouts in a row, and has five in six games. He finishes regular season with 10, and earning the nickname Mr Zero. 2. The playoff format gets changed. The top two teams play in a best of seven semi final. 3rd and 4th place teams play in a best of three quarter final as well as the 5th and 6th place teams. The winners of the quarterfinals play in a best of three semi final, and the semifinal winner here plays the best of seven semi final winner for the Stanley Cup.  The Stanley Cup finals are a best of seven. QF had Toronto beat the new York Americans 2-0, while Detroit beat Montreal 2-1. SF had Toronto beat Detroit 2-1 while Boston beat the New York Rangers 4-3. Stanley Cup had Boston beat Toronto 4-1.  Boston wins their second Stanley Cup.  Months after the Stanley Cup final, WW2 begins, and it will be wreaking havoc on all teams.  Onto the 1939-40 season where the first hints of that war will show.
