1936-37 NHL season

This season had 8 teams and a 48 game schedule.  Montreal Maroons and New York Americans struggle financially. Americans almost fold, NHL buys team. Americans also get stuck with influenza, sending them from first to last. They also lose Roy Worters to hernia. He ends up retiring.  Eddie Shore has a broken vertebrae and misses rest of seasons. Worst injury was Howie Morenz. He suffers a series leg injury after being checked by Earl Siebert. Morenz skate got stuck in the dasher and had it broken after landing awkwardly.  While healing, blood clots were discovered.  One blood clot was discovered near his heart. As his operation was getting set up, the clot stopped his heart. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful and he died from complications.  In the postseason, the quarter finals had the Maroons beat Boston 2-1 while the Rangers beat Toronto 2-0. Semi finals had the Rangers beat the Maroons 2-0 while Detroit beat Montreal 3-2. Detroit beats the Rangers 3-2 for their second Stanley Cup win (and two in a row).
