where i am - or is it where am i? i dont know, but my head finally stopped spinning after the baseball events of the weekend. like philadelphia phillies winning the national league east, the l.a. dodgers winning the n.l. west and today the milwaukee brewers winning the wild card. the national league division series match-ups are: the phillies vs the brewers and the cubs vs the dodgers. the tampa bay rays are american league east winners, the red sox are wild card winners and the l.a. angels are the west winners. the central is up in the air as minnesota (at 88-74) leads the white sox by 1/2 a game(87-74). the white sox will play detroit tomorrow (a make up game from earlier this month due to rain). if the white sox win, they will play the twins tuesday in a one game playoff for the central. if the sox lose, the twins win. lost in this was a car race that was won by jimmie johnson today. he's now leading the points after the third of 10 playoff races. kyle busch struggled ...
welcome to fall its the first official day of fall. started at 9:44am and boy it feels like it. its rainy and windy. and the leaves are flying off the trees like nothing. its supposed to be fall like for the upcoming week so stay warm.
final game at yankee stadium the yankees and baltimore orioles just finished the last ever game at yankee stadiume. the yankees won 7-3. mike mussina gets the win, mariano rivera pitched the 9th and jose molina hit the last homer there, 85 years after babe ruth hit the first ever homer ther in 1923. the yankees will move across the street to a brand new yankee stadium starting in 2009.
a rare cubs feat the chicago cubs made it to the post season in back to back seasons in a century by winning the nl central division. in 1907 and 1908 was the last time the did it, which is the last time they won a world series.
a no hit sunday in milwaukee no it does not involve the brewers. the cubs and astros are using miller park in milwaukee to play two games (tonight and tomorrow) due to hurricane ike. anyways carlos zambrano of the cubs just finished throwing a no hitter against the astros in a 5-0 win. he is the 8th cubs pitcher since 1900 to throw one. an accomplishment to remember.
"save"ing history francisco rodriguez of the los angeles angels recorded his 58th save in a 5-2 win over the seattle mariners, breaking the old record of 57 set by bobby thigpen in 1990. it will be likely that rodriguez will hit 60 by the end of the season, which ends on the 28th of this month.
weather mayhem weather mayhem all over, and not just hurricane ike. hurricane ike has the potential of major damage. the cubs and astros had to postpone the game tonight and tomorrow for safety reasons. five other games further east were rained out (detroit at chicago, minnesota at baltimore, atlanta at n.y. mets, tampa bay at n.y. yankees, and milwaukee at philadelphia). the game in philly wil be made up on sunday. the other four in brackets will be made up tomorrow plus toronto at boston and kansas city at cleveland has double headers from previous rainouts. gonna be ugly - or fun.
monday night after sunday mayhem just finished watching green bay beat minnesota 24-19 in the first half of the monday night doubleheader. up next is denver at oakland. this follows a busy sunday with the full slate of week one nfl games that followed the giants beatin the redskins last thursday. plus a plethera of baseball games and jimmie johnson winning his second race in a row yesterday. ten races to go and twelve drivers in the race for the championship. gonna get good.
a good day to remember day after labor day means the kids are back in school for another year. also i picked up season 10 of cheers. that came out today. and today marked the return of radios best duo ever after 14 years. yep this morning on 96.3 capital fm marked the return of rob christie and audie lyns together on the radio. they havent lost their touch either from what i heard this morning. i remember listening to them when i was in grade school during the 80s. they were on 630 ched then (when ched was a music station) and power 92 (now 92.5 joe fm). there was even a launch party for them today too. 96.3 is in west edmonton mall as one of the newcap radio stations. one of the people at the table let me go see them which was cool. anyways a good day to remember.
labour day classics edmonton beat calgary 36-17 in calgary this afternoon. right now toronto is playing hamilton at ivor wynne stadium. update. toronto 34 hamilton 31
end of august musings end of august. im watching the series finale of frasier. afterwards i will join the car race in california already in progress. cant believe august is over. we had the beijing summer olympics, lots of cfl football, baseball, my birthday, one heck of a heat wave and a sickness thats almost gone. for now thats it. until tomorrow. update: jimmie johnson dominated leadind 227 of 250 laps in winning in fontana
long weekend already? sadly yes. and the end of august is on sunday. can't believe august is almost done. seems like it just started. and the labour day classic in calgary is monday. even toronto and hamilton meet up out east. two heated rivalries on one day. cant get better than that
closing ceremonies and afterthought watching the closing ceremonies that i taped this morning. and it was quite the show. canada finished with 18 medals, which is a pretty good showing. hopefully more than that come the next summer games in 2012 in london. the vancouver 2010 winter games come next. after watching the olympics the last 17 days, it will be a shock to turn on the tv and watching something else. anyways thats the beijing games, from fantastic performances, close finishes, and close-to-medalling finishes. a good show to say the least.
canada's flag bearer at the closing ceremonies is....... ...... karen cockburn. she was selected by the canadian olympic comittee. the closing ceremonies is tomorrow morning here.
adam's redemption adam van kouverden got a silver in the k-1 500m kayaking event. redemption bigtime. after the 8th place yesterday, he knew he had to make it up and did so. now its 3g 9s and 6b. not much events left. and the closing ceremonies is tomorrow morning here. damn almost done already.
two more medals a silver from karine sergerie in taekwondo -welter (57-67kg) final and a bronze from thomas hall in c-1 1000m event. surprising that adam van kouverden didnt win a medal today. hes bummed about it, yet hes got another chance tomorrow in the k-1 500m. so now we have 3g, 8s and 6b for 17 total. now its one less than barcelona 1992. 17 is already their third best total in a non-boycott year (canada got 44 in 1984 when the eastern bloc countries boycotted the l.a. games for the 1980 moscow boycott). hopefully more tomorrow.
a gold and a silver eric lamaze won gold in the individual portion of the equestrian event. great to see coming fronm the past he had. emilie heymans won silver in the 10m platform diving event. so now we have 3g 7s and 5b for 15 total passing sydney 2000 and tying l.a. 1932 and amsterdam 1928. hopefullly more coming.
more medals in. and maybe more to come last night, simon whitfield won silver in the triathlon after getting passed by a german. today 2 silvers anda bronze. alexander despatie won a silver in the 3m springboard diving event. jason burnett won silver in the mens individual trampoline event. and the bronze went to priscilla lopes-schliep in the womens 100m hurdles event. with 2g, 6s and 5b = 13total, we now won more medals in beijing than in athens when canada had 12 there.
two more medals for canada two more silvers for canada. first in the equestrian mixed team event (includes 61 year old ian miller whos in his 9th olympics). the second silver comes from karen cockburn in trampoline. so now we have 2g 3s and 4g = 9 medals
a hatrick of medals 3 more rowing medals for canada overnight and this morning here. a gold from the mens 8 with cox (kevin light, benjamin rutledge, andrew byrnes, jacob wetzel, malcolm howard, dominic seiterle, adam kreek, kyle hamilton and brian price on the team), also a bronze from the mens lightweight sculls (iain brambell, jonathan beare, mike lewis and liam parsons on the team), and a bronze from womens pairs lightweight sculls (melanie kok and tracy cameron on the team). so canada now has 7 medals ( 2g 1s and 4b).
