reds n.l. central champs, yankees and rays in the cincinnati reds are n.l. central winners for the first time since 1995 when they were in teh playoffs last. they got in by beating houston. meanwhile the yankees and the tampa bay rays are in the playoffs by both of them winninga and the boston red sox losing. the yankees and the rays will decide the division.

AAA 400 jimmie johnson redeemed himself immensely by winning on the monster mile in dover deleware. he moved up to second in the points behind denny hamlin who finished ninth today. even though he finished 11th, jeff gordon lost 4 spots in the points while kevin harvick lost 3. next race is in kansas and the price chopper 400 presented by kraft foods
not what bowyer needed clint bowyer lost 150 points after his car had failed post race inspection after sunday's race. the car was found "not to have conformed to nascar rules" and "chassis did not meet certain nascar requirements." he goes back to 12th in the points. his crew cheif got suspended for the next 6 races and was fined $150,000. not a good wat to start the weekend in dover.
sylvania 300 clint bowyer held off denny hamlin on fuel mileage (after tony stewart ran out of gas) to snap an 88 winless streak. bowyer moves from 12th to second in the points and trails hamlin by 35 pts. jimmie johnson finished 25th and dropped from second to 7th in the points. next race is thw AAA 400 at the monster mile in dover deleware
full slate of games galore the first full slate of nfl games happened, capped off by a 13-7 washington redskins victory over the dallas cowboys. the cowboys appeared to have won it, but a holding penalty snuffed it out. two monday night games to end week one. the baltimore ravens @ the new york jets at 5 and the san diego chargers @ the kansas city chiefs at 8:15. then it will be back to one mnf game. thats it for this weekend.
air guard 400 denny hamlin held off kyle busch to win the air guard 400 in richmond tonight. at the same time, he also got the first seed in the chase for the championship with 6 wins (10 pts per win equalling 60 pts) and 5060. jimmie johnson will start the chase second with 5050 pts. kevin harvick and kyle busch is third and fourth - each with 3 wins and 5030 pts. kurt busch stars 5th with 2 wins and 5020 pts. greg biffle and tony stewart starts 6th and 7th - each with one win and 5010 pts. from 8th to 12th with 5000 pts: jeff gordon, carl edwards, jeff burton, matt kenseth and clint bowyer. the chase starts a week tommorow in louden, new hampshire.
nfl opening night the opening game featured a rematch from the nfc championship game between the minnesota vikingas and the new orleans saints. the saints came out with a 14-9 win in which both teams had opportunities to score and a few turnovers - from what i read anyways. i wish i could have seen the game (damn the work). anyways go saints. sunday kicks of the rest of the games as well as two monday night games. nice way to kick of the season.
thursday morning mindless banter start of september yay. kids went back to school here yesterday. its felt like fall the past few day and the leaves are starting to show it here. the cfl season goes in earnest tomorrow beginning the labor day weekend games. the nfl season starts next weekend and the nhl starts training camp. baseball is in playoff race mode while nascar goes chase for the championship mode with the lsat two "pre chase races" sunday night and the night of sept. 11 in richmond. setting up to be good already.
