phew that was close boy did leslie and i survive a scare. i'll start by saying the last time prior to tonight that her and i talked or emailed was sunday the 20th. i emailed her a few times since. she's been working her butt of to save up money to come up and see me. while we were talking tonight, i told her how i felt lonely without her and how frustrated i was that we hardly spoke. she felt the same way. this was probably the closest we came to breaking up without breaking up. i still love her. i still want her to be happy. but, boy that was close.

another olympic anniversary 3 years ago today - gold medal game. canada 5 u.s. 2 in mens hockey. wow. man how time flies. can you believe it. yikes

a realization i realized something today. 3 years ago yesterday the womens olympic hockey team won gold in salt lake with the score of 3-2 over the u.s. i didn't even think about it until this afternoon. yikes.

a reminder to remember i got a reminder to remember yesterday from a google alert 9thanks darren for the suggestion). yesterday's tara lipinski google alert was an anniversary of sorts. 7 years ago yesterday tara lipinski won gold in nagano and i didn't realize it until i read the google alert. it ws a realization of "hey i remember that." a reminder to remember.

the 47th daytona 500 some finish to this race. 4 lead changes in the last 9 races, a green-white-checkered finish, and white knuckled time the last 2 laps. yikes. jeff gordon won his 3rd daytona 500. the finish alone was worth watching it. and even had the usual "BIG ONE" - well a scaled down version. the "BIG ONE" is a multi-car crash. anyways, a hell of a finish to this race. next race - the auto club 500 in fontana, california.

hours away from daytona can't wait till the daytona 500 starts. gonna be a good one too. close racing from green flag to checkered flag. until then, gotta wait. hmmm what can i do? think about leslie, my new girlfriend.

no nhl season gary betteman finally cancelled the season. the announcement was made this morning in new york. which is good. i gave up on the season two months ago and i dont miss it a shit. fuck the players and fuck the owners. im quite happy without hockey. by now ive got some surprised looks. don't worry, i've moved on. theres other things to watch.

budweiser shootout jimmie johnson has just won the budweiser shootout to begin speedweeks in daytona. the twin 150's is thursday afternoon and the daytona 500 is a week tomorrow. as darrell waltrip would say (at least to start the race and in this case the season) BOOGITY, BOOGITY, BOOGITY.

a need for baseball? indeed. this was taken this past saturday. heck i wasn't cold - even if it was -15 at the time. 

one year to torino 2006 can you believe it? one year to the torino 2006 winter games. geez, don't seem that long ago the 2002 salt lake winter games happened. even the athens summer games seemed like yesterday. cant wait. the salt lake games was fun. of course the trip to saskatchewan helped the cause. remember that trip, darren? it was fun wasn't it.

super bowl xxxix the new england patriots have won their 3rd super bowl in four years with a 24-21 win over the philadelphia eagles earlier tonight in jacksonville. dieon branch was named super bowl m.v.p. he tied a super bowl record with 11 receptions and gained 133 yards on those receptions. next year super bowl xl in detroit.

end of spring! dammit. it was a nice and short visit by spring, but winter has to make one last kick at the cat here. by this weekend it will be back to seasonal (if you call -11 seasonal) and some snow. man, and we were doing so well getting rid of the snow. oh well farmers need all the moisture they can get. that and the potential of forest fires stay down during the summer. oh yeah, this weekend marks chinese new year. so happy new year there. for that, darren, i hope your happy.

first of february... ...means the beginning of the short month. lots happening this month. super bowl 39 on sunday, daytona 500 on the 20th (CAN'T WAIT), the beginning of baseball spring training with pitchers and catchers reporting to spring training facilities in florida and arizona. it's gonna be fun.
