1952 (XV Olympiad) games

 These games were held in Helsinki Finland from July 19 to August 3. 69 nations and 4932 nations competed.  Most world records were broken here until 2008. People's Republic of China, Soviet Union, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Israel, Thailand, Saarland, Ghana, Guatemala, Netherlands Antilles, Nigeria and Vietnam debuted. Final games under Sigfrid Edstrom. Taiwan (formerly Republic of China) withdrew from games over China entering. Germany and Japan were reinstated. United States won most gold (40) and most overall (76).
