1928 winter Olympics
The second edition of the winter Olympics was held from February 11-19. 25 nations and 469 athletes participated. Highlights include:
1. Fluctuating weather conditions wreaked havoc. Blizzard hit during opening ceremonies. Warmer weather happened during the remainder. Warmer weather forced the sudden end of the 10000 m speedskating race as Irving Jaffee had taken the lead from a Norwegian. A Norwegian ref suddenly cancelled the event. Then the IOC overturned the decision. Then the international skating union overturned the IOC decision. Nobody got medals.
2. Switzerland won only a bronze, becoming the host nation with the lowest medal total.
3. Sonja Henie won her first of three golds, and becoming youngest Olympic champion.
4. Canada finished with one medal - a gold in hockey.
