 Geez it's the end of August already. Seems like the whole summer flew by. School here has begun already.  NFL season and hockey season is around the corner. It's raining here at the moment. Still grateful for a shelter, getting to eat and snoozing on a bed. Will keep searching for those U-Haul graphics and license plates.

 It was nice leaving the doctor office knowing I lost 26 pounds. Felt good.  Got thinking of license plate and U-Haul trucks. The truck graphics seen since June 1 is at 14, US plates at 24 and trailers at 22.  I've seen one or two Canadian trailer graphics, all but two plates (Nunavut and Prince Edward Island). And seen all but one truck graphic, that being Prince Edward Island. Canadian ones were easier to remember. 

 Day after the women qualified, the men's team qualified for the 2028 summer Olympics. Had to beat Mexico in overtime to do it. They need the USA to beat Mexico in the semis to have a chance and got it.

 So, flag football is in the next summer games and Canada's women's team has qualified. Won their semi final game over Mexico 20-6 and will face the USA for the championship. (No idea which one).

 On this day in 1958, the newly renamed CFL played its first game in Winnipeg as the Blue Bombers bead the Edmonton Eskimos 29-21. Winnipeg beat Hamilton for that years Grey Cup 35-28.

 Key West FL is closer to Havana Cuba than to Miami FL. Detroit is north of Windsor. Derby Line Stanstead is a welll know border town. Some of the US/Canada border is on the road.  On this day the first ever night game at Wrigley Field was set to take place vs the Phillies. Game ends up getting called in the 4th due to rain. First official night game was the next night vs the Mets. Cubs won 6-4.

 What an 11 days of the Commonwealth Games.  Boat load of medals and track and field drama on Saturday. Canada finished third overall with 19g, 20s, 23b for 62 total. Australia led with 70g, 45s, 56b for 171 total. England was second with 29g, 45s, 36b for 110 total.  I also had a great birthday yesterday. I had a great day. Had fish and chips for lunch at Mr Mike's.  And dessert. A great day overall.

 The two bronzes are Maggie Coles-Lister in cycling women's elimination race and Coralie Godbout in judo 78 kg. The gold is in judo and it's from Kyle Reyes in the 100kg class. Canada finishes with 19g, 20s, and 23b for 62 total. Now for the closing ceremony.

 The men's team had been disqualified for lane violation. They appealed. They won. And now the silver. The team of Andre DeGrasse, Aaron Brown, Brendon Rodney, Duan Asemota and Jerome Blake has a silver. That is now 18g, 20s, 21b for 59 total. Yippee.

 The team of Frederique Chaisson, Gabrielle Cole marie-Eloise LeClair, Audrey Leduc and Sade McCreath has a silver in the women's 4x100m relay. That is now 18g, 19s, 21b for 58 medals. Stay tuned.

The team consists of Reed De'aeth, Lee Melymick, Kyrell Sopotyk and Garrett Ostepchuk. That is now 13g, 11s, 14b for 38 total.

 Camryn Rogers is the golden hammer thrower, defending her gold from 2022. That is now 13g, 10s, 12b for 35 total.

 This from Noah Vucsics in the men's long jump (T20). That is now 12g, 10s, 12b for 34 total.

 The bronze is from Sophie Angus in the 50m breaststroke. The silver is from Oliver Dawson in the 200m breaststroke. The 2 gold's are from: Charlotte Simoneau in weightlifting 69kg class and Kylie Masse (her 11th) in the 50m backstroke. That is now 12g, 9s, 12b for 33 total. A pair of great days.

 Yep 8 more. Start with the 5 bronze. Lia Monica Fontaine on the balance beam, Felix Dolci on the parallel bars, William Emard on the horizontal bars, Nicolas -Guy Turbide in the 50m freestyle S13 swim and Lorne Winnington in the 400m individual medley. The 3 gold's are Felix Dolci on the vault AND horizontal bar and Maude Charron in weightlifting 63 kg class. That is now 10g, 8s, 11b for 29 total.

 Two bronze. They are: Rowan Hamilton in hammer throw and Zachary Gingras in men's 100m T38. The silver is Michael Barber in 1500m T54. The gold is Ethan Katzberg in hammer throw. First Canadian male to win hammer throw at the Commonwealth Games. That is now 7g, 8s, 6b for 21 total. 12 medals today.

 Yes. 8 more today. Start withe one bronze. That was Rebekah Grouly in weightlifting 53kg class. Now the 4 silver. They are: Ann -Sophie Taschereau in weightlifting 58kg class, William Emard in artistic gymnastics rings, Ellie Black in artistic gymnastics uneven bars, and Rene Cournoyer in artistic gymnastics men's floor. Now the 3 gold. They are Felix Dolci in artistic gymnastics rings, Jordan Carroll inmens pommel horse and Lia Monica Fontaine in artistic gymnastics vault. Wow 6 in artistic gymnastics and 2 in weightlifting. That is now 6g, 7s, 4b for 17 total.

 Ellie Black has the gold and Lia-Monica Fontaine has the bronze in the women's individual all around. That is now 3g, 3s, 3b for 9 total.

 Kylie Masse has herself a silver in the 100m backstroke.  It's her 10th ever Commonwealth Games medal. Canada now has 2g, 3s, 2b for 7 total.

 Start with the silver by Felix Dolci. Claims it in the men's gymnastics individual all around. He was two tenths from gold  Speaking of gold. Josh Liendo won it in the 100m butterfly. Yes. That is now 2g, 2s, 2b for 6 total . And more to come.

 The silver goes to the women's artistic gymnastics team. Ellie Black, Gabrielle Black, Lia Redick, Lia-Monica Fontaine and Alyssa Guerrier-Calixte all earned the silver. That's now 1g, 1s, 2b for 4 total.

 Let's start with the swimming bronzes. First by Mary Jibb in the individual medley SM10 and the second by Fernando Lu in the butterfly S10. The gold comes from artistic gymnastics in the men's all around. The team of Jordan Carroll, Rene Cournoyer, Felix Dolci, William Emard and Ethan Ikeda. So far just the 1g and 2b for 3 total.  Also announced yesterday was Canada's baton bearer. It is lawn bowler Ryan Bester. Opening ceremony is tomorrow at 1pm Prince Albert time.

 Canada's flag bearer at the Commonwealth Games is Paralympian Kady Dandeneau. She is on the 3x3 basketball team. Let the games begin 

 Commonwealth begins on Thursday with the opening ceremony, which I read will be held indoors. Bowls ( lawn bowling) begins action Thursday afternoon. Fun begins in earnest Friday with some medals handed out. Stay tuned. 2027 women's world Cup is in Brazil from June 24 to July 25. Qualifying is still ongoing. Canada finishes 14th at this past world cup.

 That was a heck of a tournament. Canada had a few firsts. First draw, first win, first time in the knockout round, first win in knockout round. Prior to the tournament, nobody heard of Cape Verde. After tying Spain and giving Argentina a handful in the round of 32, everyone was looking up where Cape Verde was. Norway knocking out Brazil. Spain giving up one goal the whole tournament and never trailed. The finish to the third place game was insane. This was a tournament to remember. Until 2030 (in Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay. The 100th birthday of the world cup), cheers. There's the 2027 womens world cup in Brazil.

 This went to extra time. Spain got the only goal of the game to claim their second world cup. Spain also won 1-0 in extra time in 2010 against Netherlands. Argentina lost 1-0 to Germany in 2014 in extra time. Congratulations Spain.

 This ended up quite a finish. England was up 4-0 at half time, and hung on to beat France 6-4. Wow. England takes 3rd, France finishes 4th. Tomorrow, the finale. 1pm Prince Albert time 

 Argentina scored two late goals to beat England 2-1 to play Spain in the championship game on Sunday at 1pm. England will play France on Saturday at 3pm for third place.

 It's gotten stormy the last couple of nights. Last night was really stormy. Had a tornado warning (red level), hail, even a power outage. Some of Alberta got it too. Quite happy I was indoors. Summer fun haha.

 This went into extra time. Argentina scored two in extra time to beat Switzerland 3-1 and will face England in the semis on Wednesday. I think this is the first time an all champions final four has happened. NOTE: it's the third time it's happened.

The world cup ends in 8 days. But don't fret. The summer is not over.  From July 23 - August 2, the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland will be happening.  The break in between may be needed.

 A goal in the 88th minute gave Spain a 2-1 victory over Belgium and will face France in the semi final game on Tuesday at 1pm. Tomorrow has Norway vs England at 3pm and Argentina vs Switzerland at 7pm to finish the quarterfinals.

 France beat Morocco 2-0 to be the first team to the semis. They will face either Spain or Belgium. This game is tomorrow at 1pm. The semi final game is Tuesday at 1pm.

 This went to penalties. Switzerland beats Colombia 4-3 in said penalties and will face Argentina in the quarterfinals Saturday night. Also Saturday night has Norway vs England at 3pm. Friday has Spain vs Belgium at 1pm and France vs Morocco on Thursday at 2pm. The end is near.

 Argentina beat Egypt 3-2 afternoon being down 2-0. Ouch. They get the winner of Switzerland vs Colombia. That is at 2pm.

 Belgium beat the United States 4-1 to go to the quarterfinals against Spain.  That game is Friday.

 Spain has beaten Portugal 1-0 to advance to the quarterfinals. They play either Belgium or United States. This game is at 6pm. The quarterfinals game is Friday at 1pm.

 This co-host is Mexico as the lost 3-2 to England. England plays Norway on Saturday in the quarterfinals.

 Norway pulls off an upset as they beat Brazil 2-1 (just saw this). They will face either Mexico or England on Saturday at 3pm. Mexico vs England is starting shortly.

 Only one goal needed and France got it as they beat Paraguay 1-0 on a penalty br Kyle Mbappe. France will play Morocco on Thursday at 2pm.

 Morocco just beat Canada 3-0 to go to the quarterfinals against Paraguay or France. This game is at 3pm. The quarterfinals game is Thursday at 2pm. A great run by Canada, but Morocco was the better team.

 Colombia beat Ghana 1-0 to become the last team to make the round of 16. They play Switzerland on Tuesday.

 This went to extra time. Argentina wins 3-2 over Cape Verde. Cape Verde game Argentina a handful. Argentina plays Egypt in the round of 16 on Tuesday.

 It's Egypt who pulls it out in penalties, 4-2 over Australia. Egypt is in the round of 16, where the play either Argentina or Cape Verde. This game is at 4pm. The round of 16 game is on Tuesday.

 Yesterday Portugal beat Croatia 2-1 and Switzerland beat Algeria 2-0. Portugal will play Spain on Monday and Switzerland will play the winner of Colombia vs Ghana. Stay tuned.

 United States beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0 despite being down a player. Yikes . They will face Belgium in the round of 16.

 This went into extra time and Belgium wins 3-2 over Senegal. They will face either the United States or Bosnia and Herzegovina in the round of 16 on Monday at 6pm.

 Yesterday France beat Sweden 3-0 and Mexico beat Ecuador 2-0. This morning England beat Congo 2-1 to advance. Sooooo.... France plays Paraguay on Saturday at 3pm, and Mexico plays England on Sunday at 6pm. This afternoon has Belgium vs Senegal at 2pm and USA vs Bosnia and Herzegovina at 6pm. Winners play each other.

 It's been a month.  Fortunate to have a roof over my head and something to eat. The world cup has kept me sane as well as the few friends that have checked in on me to see if I am okay.  Been doing okay.  I've had my moments, but doing okay. Not to mention t my left knee got infected a bit. Knee is way better now.

 Norway has beaten Cote d'Ivoire 2-1 and will play Brazil in the round of 16 on Sunday at 2pm. That may be a good game. Stay tuned.

 Group h had Cape Verde and Saudi Arabia play to a 0-9 tie and Spain beat 1-0. Group g had Belgium beat New Zealand 5-1 and Egypt 1 Iran 1. Group g had Belgium first and Egypt second and Iran third. Group had Spain first and Cape Verde finishing second and making the round of 32 in their first tournament. More round of 32 matchups has Germany vs Paraguay on Monday, France vs Sweden on Tuesday, Cote d'Ivoire vs Norway on Tuesday, Australia vs Egypt on Friday and Argentina vs Cape Verde on Friday.  Yesterday Ecuador and Curacao played to a scoreless tie and Japan beat Tunisia 4-0. This morning Spain beat Saudi Arabia 4-0. On now has Belgium vs Iran.

 Wow Germany barely wins. They beat Ivory Coast 2-1, getting the winner in stoppage time. They also had two goals get called back due to fouls. Ecuador vs Curacao is at 6pm Prince Albert time 

 Yesterday had USA 2 Australia 0, Morocco 1 Scotland 0, Brazil 3 Haiti 0 and Paraguay 1 Turkiye 0. Today had Netherlands 5 Sweden 1. At 2pm has Germany vs Ivory Coast 

 Canada beat Qatar 6-0 in a statement game. They needed that. Setes up a first place showdown with Switzerland on the 24th. Also their first ever world cup win.  Also Mexico won 1-0 over South Korea.

 After a scoreless first half, Switzerland owned the second half - at least the last 15 minutes as they beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 4-1. They lead group b. Up next is Canada vs Qatar in a huge group b game.

 Started with Czechia and South Africa playing to a 1-1 tie. Czechia had the lead for over 70 minutes before South Africa tied it. Next up is Switzerland vs Bosnia and Herzegovina at 1pm.

 Some games of note.  Austria beat Jordan 3-1 in Jordan debut, France beat Senegal 3-1, Norway beat Iraq 4-1, Argentina 3 Algeria 0 (yesterday games), Iran and New Zealand tied 2-2 from Monday night and so far today Portugal and Congo tied 1-1. England vs Croatia about to start.

 Saudi Arabia and Uruguay played to a 1-1 draw. Does this feel like a surprise or is it just me. Last game of the night has Iran vs New Zealand.

 Belgium and Egypt played to a 1-1 tie. Not much to say here.  Coming up has Saudi Arabia vs Uruguay.

 Cape Verde made it's debut and played Spain to a scoreless draw. Wo, who saw that coming. Coming up is Belgium vs Egypt.

 Sweden beat Tunisia 5-1 to round out day 4. No surprises today. Sweden leads group f.  Four games tomorrow. Stay tuned.

 The Carolina Hurricanes are Stanley Cup Champions after beating Vegas 3-0 in game six and series 4-2. It's their second Stanley Cup. Congratulations.

 Cote d'Ivoire scores in the 90th minute and wins 1-0 over Ecuador. Late game drama. Big for them. Chance got better to reach knockout round. Last game of the day is Sweden vs Tunisia.

 It was scoreless in the first half. By the end of the game Netherlands and Japan finish to a 2-2 tie. Pretty good second half. Coming up - Cote d'Ivoire vs Ecuador.

 Not much of a surprise as Germany beat Curacao 7-1 in the debut of Curacao. So there's the first game. Coming up is Netherlands vs Japan. 

 Australia wins the last game of the night, 2-0 over Turkiye. They now share the group d lead with the United States.  That's it for tonight.

 Scotland hung on to beat Haiti 1-0 and leads group c with the win. Scotland first win since 1990 and first game since 1998, while it's Haiti first game since 1974. Next up has Australia vs Turkiye to finish group d.

 This finished a 1-1 tie. Morocco opened the scoring on a great goal, followed by Brazil scoring a great goal of their own. Brazilian goalie made a couple key saves. Next up is Haiti vs Scotland to finish group c.

 Switzerland had a 1-0 lead right until added time in the 90th minute. Qatar ties it in added time to eventually make the final 1-1. All four teams in Canada's group has a point. Coming up has Brazil vs Morocco in group c.

 The United States beat Paraguay 4-1 to start their world cup. Owned the first half, the second half was pretty even. So that's it for day two. Four games tomorrow. 

 Canada played its first game and played to a 1-1 tie vs Bosnia and Herzegovina.  First ever draw. Next game is the 18th vs Qatar.

 Finland wins gold on overtime, beating Switzerland 1-0. Finlands 3rd gold in 7 years, and fifth overall. Switzerland gets silver, their fifth overall. Congratulations to Finland, this year's champions.

 Norway takes bronze after beating Canada in overtime. It is their first ever medal. Canada finishes 4th. Just the gold game left.

 Canada suffered its first loss of the tournament, losing to Finland 4-2 in the semi final game that just ended. Earlier Switzerland beat Norway 6-0. It will be Switzerland vs Finland for gold and Canada vs Norway for bronze. Both games tomorrow.

 This wasn't much of a series. Carolina knocks out Montreal in game 5 6-1 and series 4-1. Couple of games Montreal wasn't getting many shots. It will be Carolina vs Vegas for the Stanley Cup. Series I believe starts June 2.

 Canada beat the United States 4-0 in the quarterfinals and will advance to the semi final. Opponent TBD. Semis are Saturday.

 Wow this didn't take long. President's trophy curse lives on as Vegas knocks out Colorado in a 4 game sweep and is now in the Stanley Cup finals. Now they await the end of the Montreal vs Carolina series.

 Canada wins its 6th game, beating Slovakia 5-1. Last game of the round robin is Tuesday vs Czech Republic. A win there should secure top spot in group B. Stay tuned 

 Canada is now 5 for 5 after beating Slovenia 3-1. 14 points and leading the group. Next game is Sunday vs Slovakia.

 Boy Canada barely beat Norway, winning 6-5 in overtime.  11 points now. Next game is tomorrow vs Slovenia.

 I finally got to watching this. Napoleon Solo won the 151st Preakness with a time of 1:58.69. Paco Lopez was winning jockey and Chad Summers winning trainer. Next up the Belmont Stakes on June 6. 

 At 8:32am on this day in 1980, Mt St Helens erupted. 57 people died in the eruption that buried stuff, cataclysmic lahars, forests blown away, Toutle river flowed with ash and trees, Spirit Lake boiled, and flora and fauna took years to recover. Here is a photo of eruption as it started. I don't remember the name of photographer.

 Overtime in game 7 because why not. Montreal wins it 3-2 to advance to the Eastern Conference finals starting Thursday against Carolina. Should be a good one.
