Canada routs Japan

It was pretty much a no doubter as Canada bests Japan 9-0.  Meanwhile Denmark beat Hungary 1-0 despite being outshot 45-19. Uuuf. That's the only two games today.  Canada plays again on Tuesday vs the USA.

Canada wins, Hiirikoski sets record

Canada opens the womens worlds with a 4-1 win against Finland. Also Finland's Jenni Hiirikoski began her 14th tournament,  which I believe set a record. She had also set a Games record. She is now at 76 games played, passing Karoliina Rantomaki, who has played 69. Cool.  Sweden beat Denmark 5-2. So that's opening day.  Stay tuned for more.

Womens hockey championships

It's opening day. This morning the USA beat Japan 10-0 while Hungary beat Germany 4-2. Right now Canada leads Finland 3-1 as is Sweden over host Denmark.

2023 MLB sked is out

It's intriguing.  For the first time, all 30 teams will face each other at least once next season. 52 games within the division, 64 games against hhe other two league divisions (NL East would play central and west 64 games) and 46 interleague games. Scheduled became more "balanced."  All star game is in Seattle on July 11. Opening day is on March 30 and, if weather permitting, all 30 teams will be playing. All 30 teams are scheduled to play on July 4th. St Louis plays the Cubs in London Great Britain June 24 and 25. Regular season ends October 1st. Postseason would start on October 3rd I would imagine.

Just when you think I'm done with hockey.......

....... the womens world championship starts Thursday morning in Denmark. Canada will be looking to repeat as champions.

1956-57 NHL season

This season had, you guessed it,  6 teams and 70 games. October 1, Dick Irvin Sr resigns as Chicago coach due to illness. Tommy Ivan takes over. November 18, Ted Lindsay scores goal #300. January 5, CBS aires an afternoon game between New York and Chicago. New York wins 4-1.  February 11, Ted Lindsay forms the NHLPA.  After this season him and Glenn Hall get traded to Chicago. Chicago will start improving while Detroit starts declining.  Power play rule changes.  Before, you could score as many goals as possible on the power play.  Now, once you score, penalty ends.  Playoffs:  semi finals; Boston upsets Detroit 4-1, while Montreal knocks off New York 4-1. Stanley Cup had Montreal beat Boston 4-1.  Next up is the 1957-58 season.

Field of dreams game

Last night in Dyersville Iowa was the 2nd annual field of dreams game. Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds wore replica uniforms that were worn in 1919. Chicago won 4-2. The uniforms looked pretty neat.

Canada in a romp

Mason McTavish scored 4 (in some good company) as Canada routed Slovakia 11-1. Yikes.  Earlier Finland won in a shootout 4-3 over Czech Republic.  Canada plays again Saturday against Czech Republic at 4pm.

Canada's opener

Canada beat Latvia 🇱🇻 5-2 to open the tournament. Wasn't a perfect game.  There's work to be done. They play Slovakia 🇸🇰 tomorrow for their second game.  Not many surprises but  couple of good games so far. One had Sweden 🇸🇪 beat Switzerland 🇨🇭 3-2 after going up 3-0. Tonight has Germany 🇩🇪 vs Austria 🇦🇹 to finish day two of the tournament.

World juniors 2.0 has begun

The reboot of the holiday tradition has begun with the Czech Republic beating Slovakia in a thriller 5-4. Canada opens tomorrow at 4pm against Latvia.
