Ebbets field

A different view of Ebbets field. Shown is from 1913 near completion. Ground was broken in 1912 and took a year to complete. Was named after Charles Hercules Ebbets, who owned the Dodgers at the time. It was built with steel and concrete. The Dodgers old home - Washington park - was aging, and was a mostly wooden park, which, like other wooden parks, susceptible to fires. First game was an exhibition game vs the Yankees, and the first regular season home game was a 1-0 loss to the Phillies. History lesson.
