1900 (II Olympiad)

 The games of the II Olympiad was held in Paris from May 14 to October 28, 1900, during the world's fair. 26 nations and 1226 athletes participated. Was held on a non leap year (?).  Helene De Pourtales was first women's champion, winning gold in sailing. Most of the medallists received a trophy or cup. Some of the competitions was angling, ballooning, cricket and underwater swimming. Alvin Kraenzlein won 60m. 60m was dropped after these games. France win most gold and overall medals (27g and 102 overall). Canada participated at the Olympics for first time and won a gold and bronze. George Orton won them both. Gold in 2500m steeplechase and bronze in 4000m steeplechase. Tomorrow is the 1904 summer games. Here is the poster for today.
