another new years eve thriller this ended up a pretty damn good game. sweden ended up beating canada 6-5 in a shootout and won group b and a bye into the semis. canada will play in a quarter final game sunday vs the trird place team in group A, pending the result of the u.s vs switzerland game. result later. update: u.s. 2 swtizerland 1. u.s. wins group A and got a bye into the semis. canada will play switzerland in one quarter final matchup with the winner to play the u.s. in one semi. finland and russia play in the other quarter final matchup with the winner playing sweden in the other. quarter finals are sunday.
boxing day madness - except at westmount the usual boxing day madness all over the place. stores crowde. malls jam packes. westmount mall was quiet as usual. just like any other sunday. westmount doesnt have any of the bigname stores. plus its a smaller mall and suited for seniors mostly. boxing day is overrated anyways.
first day of winter with a dash of luner eclipse over night its the first day of winter. okay it acually starts at 4:38pm today. this coincided with the lunar eclipse last night. last time a lunar eclipse happened on the first day of winter was in the 1630s. next time that happens will be 2094. with today being the shortest day of the year daylight wise, the sun will slowly stay out longer.
our own snow storm we got our own snowstorm here on wednesday. got anywhere between 10-30 cm of the white stuff come down. plus the 40-50kph winds and there were some drifts galore. i dont know if all the major streets and bus routed got done yet, but they were bad. it wasn't fun shovelling either. by christmas, temperatures will be to normal average -7.
mass snow creats chaos for some christmassy for others bigtime snow storm went through the midwest united states. the new england patriots played the bears in chicago in the snow there and won 36-7, while in minnesota the n.y.giants and vikings had to move theier game to tomorrow night AND to detroit when the weight of the snow caused the teflon roof to collapse. theres a video of it on the msn page. while here no storms like that, but it snowed a bit the last tree or four days. with the cool weather and christmas lights up, its looking good. snow much fun eh.
the red green show i got the red gren show - the toddlin' years (seasons 4-6) last month and im enjoying it immensely. almost finished season 4 already. of course i had my bag of m&m's. the m&m's go back to when the show first startedup in 1991 and it seemed like when the show was on i had a bag of m&ms. i have the first 11 seasons of the red green show. now i wait for the last four seasons to come out.
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm not much happening lately here besides the hockey. got most of the christmas shopping dont already. saw a christmas play last night and on the way home listened to a hockey game (no surprise there eh). jimmie johnson got his 5th trophy at the awards ceremony in las vegas 48 hours ago. cant forget the world junior hockey championship starts boxing day. not bad for the first five days of december. oh yeah my room is decked out.
end of november already wow november flew by. with the grey cup and the nascar championship and a whole bunch of football, it made for a great month. i guess the christmas shopping begins in earnest tomorrow, although it really began this past friday after u.s. thanksgiving. december brings christmas, hockey, football, and the world jr hockey championships. cant forget new years eve as well.
98th grey cup in edmonton the montreal allouettes just beat the saskatchewan roughriders 21-18 in a close game. montreal scored 13 unanswered points and forced saskatchewan to punt 8 times in the second hal. the riders got a touchdown late with four minutes left to make it close. darian durant had a pass intercepted to seal the win for montreal. jamal richardson was named grey cup mvp. and thus ends championship weeks.
nascar championship and cfl division final with a 2nd place finish and denny hamlin finishing 14th, jimmie johnson has won his 5TH CHAMPIONSHIP IN A ROW!!!!!!! chad knaus deserves the credit for it as well meanwhile in calgary, the riders knocked off the stampeders 20-16 in the west final on a cold and icy and snowy mcmahon stadium in calgary. while in montreal, the allouettes massacred the argos 48-17 in the east final. so it will be a rematch from last year as the riders face the alouettes for the grey cup at commonwealth stadium.
the beginning of "championship week" today marks the beginning of championship weeks featuring nascar practice and qualifying for the ford 400 in homestead. tomorrow, i believe is also practice. sunday is the ford 400, while in the cfl, its the west final between calgary and saskatchewan, and the east final between toronto and montreal. the winners go to edmonton for the 98th grey cup on the 28th. it will get exciting and fun.
racing at phoenix and racing to grey cup carl edwards snapped a lengthy winless drought by winning in phoenix. jimmie johnson finished 5th and denny hamlin finished 13 and still leads by 15 points. kevin harvik is third in points 46 points back. last race of the season is one week from today in homestead and the ford 400. meanwhile in saskatchewan the riders just knocked off the b.c. lions 41-38 in overtime to win the west semi final. they will go to calgary to face the stampeders next sunday. while in the east the toronto argonauts went to hamilton and beat the tiger-cats 16-13 to win the east semi final. they will go to montreal to face the alouettes in the east final next sunday.
monday musings so yesterday, denny hamlin won the AAA 500 in texas yesterday, and with jimmie johnsons 9th place finish, he took the points lead. he leads johnson by 33 points. next race is in phoenix on sunday. the CFL regular season ended yesterday. calgary and montreal finished first in their divisions and has the bye into the division finals. calgary will play either saskatchewn or b.c. they play sunday in saskatchewan. montreal will play either hamilton or toronto, who plays their division semi in hamilton. a great november already.
world series game 5 tim lincecum pitched 8 innings giving up a solo homer, edgar renteria hit a key 3 run homer and brian wilson pitched the 9th as the san francisco giants won their first world series in san francisco and their first since 1954 when they were in new york. renteria was also named playoff mvp. congrats to them.
energy juice 500 after a last lap caution brought out when a.j. almendinger ended up upside down and rooled a couple times, clint bowyer was scored as the winner when he passed kevin harvick prior to the caution. points leader jimmie johnson finished 7th and has a 14 point lead over denny hamlin who finished 8th. kevin harvick is 34 back. next race is in texas and the AAA texas 500.
san francisco giant in game 6 juan uribe hit the winning run in the 8th inning with a solo homer and brian wilson got ryan howard looking at strike 3 to end the game as the san francisco giants win game 6 3-2 and the series 4 games to two. they will play the texas rangers in the world series starting wednesday night in san francisco.
texas rangers world series bound with a 6-1 win, the texas rangers are heading to the world series for the first time in franchise history. they beat the new york yankees in six games. in a way it was poetic justice that alex rodriguez, a former texas ranger, struck out to end the series. the rangers will start in either san francisco or philadelphia. game six is tomorrow night at 5pm with the giants leading three games to two.
alcs game 4 and nlcs game 3 the texas rangers just blew out the yankees 10-3 and are on the verge of going to their first ever world series. so far the rangers have outscored the yankees 30-11. game 5 is tomorrow at yankee stadium meanwhile earlier today, the san francisco giants are up two games to none over the philadelphia phillies with a 3-0 win in san fran. matt cain got the win throwing 7 innings of two hit ball. game 4 is tomorrow in san fran.

nhl opener plus night two of playoff baseball the opening night of the nhl season is on. it actually started in finland with carolina beating minnesota 4-3. got the battle of alberta on now. the oilers are leading 4-0 in the third. meanwhile the yankees and the rangers are in control of their series with the yankees beating minnesota 5-2 and the rangers winning in tampa bay 6-0. the giants opened their series with the braves with a 1-0 win helped by tim lincecum's complete game 2 hit shutout.
night one of post season baseball night one just ended with the yankees beating the twins 6-4. in the first game the rangers beat the rays 5-1 and in the second game the phillies beat the reds 4-0 in which roy halladay threw only the second no hitter in post season history. the first being don larsen's perfect game in the 1956 world series. tomorrow the braves and giants start their first round series as well as the american league series. more tomorrow.
price chopper 400 + baseball wrap up greg biffle won the price chopper 400 by 7 seconds over jimmie johnson, who now takes the point lead with denny hamlin finishing 12th. great job to biffle meanwhile the last day of the regular season brought two divisions and a wild card into focus. tampa bay won the a.l. east with them winning and the yankees losing to boston. san francisco won the n.l. west by beating san diego. with that loss, sand diego also lost the wild card thanks to atlanta beating philadelphia. the match upse are: tampa bay vs texas starting wednesday, yankees vs twins starting wednesday, cincinnati vs philadelphia starting wednesday and san francisco vs atlanta starting thursday.
reds n.l. central champs, yankees and rays in the cincinnati reds are n.l. central winners for the first time since 1995 when they were in teh playoffs last. they got in by beating houston. meanwhile the yankees and the tampa bay rays are in the playoffs by both of them winninga and the boston red sox losing. the yankees and the rays will decide the division.

not what bowyer needed clint bowyer lost 150 points after his car had failed post race inspection after sunday's race. the car was found "not to have conformed to nascar rules" and "chassis did not meet certain nascar requirements." he goes back to 12th in the points. his crew cheif got suspended for the next 6 races and was fined $150,000. not a good wat to start the weekend in dover.

full slate of games galore the first full slate of nfl games happened, capped off by a 13-7 washington redskins victory over the dallas cowboys. the cowboys appeared to have won it, but a holding penalty snuffed it out. two monday night games to end week one. the baltimore ravens @ the new york jets at 5 and the san diego chargers @ the kansas city chiefs at 8:15. then it will be back to one mnf game. thats it for this weekend.
air guard 400 denny hamlin held off kyle busch to win the air guard 400 in richmond tonight. at the same time, he also got the first seed in the chase for the championship with 6 wins (10 pts per win equalling 60 pts) and 5060. jimmie johnson will start the chase second with 5050 pts. kevin harvick and kyle busch is third and fourth - each with 3 wins and 5030 pts. kurt busch stars 5th with 2 wins and 5020 pts. greg biffle and tony stewart starts 6th and 7th - each with one win and 5010 pts. from 8th to 12th with 5000 pts: jeff gordon, carl edwards, jeff burton, matt kenseth and clint bowyer. the chase starts a week tommorow in louden, new hampshire.
nfl opening night the opening game featured a rematch from the nfc championship game between the minnesota vikingas and the new orleans saints. the saints came out with a 14-9 win in which both teams had opportunities to score and a few turnovers - from what i read anyways. i wish i could have seen the game (damn the work). anyways go saints. sunday kicks of the rest of the games as well as two monday night games. nice way to kick of the season.
thursday morning mindless banter start of september yay. kids went back to school here yesterday. its felt like fall the past few day and the leaves are starting to show it here. the cfl season goes in earnest tomorrow beginning the labor day weekend games. the nfl season starts next weekend and the nhl starts training camp. baseball is in playoff race mode while nascar goes chase for the championship mode with the lsat two "pre chase races" sunday night and the night of sept. 11 in richmond. setting up to be good already.
end of the month tomorrow already? wtf can't believe the end of august is tomorrow already. i cant believe it went by already. with the kids going back to school wednesday and the labor day football coming up next monday, the nfl starting, the nascar race for the chase begins and hockey hitting training camps. september is shaping up to ge a good one already. this month, i was happy to get internet back, baseball, nfl preseason (yawn), nascar racing, the fringe here, heritage days here, and i cant remember what else.

a clean sweep at bristol unbelievable. capping off with the irwin tools 500 tonight, kyle busch swept bristol this weekend. he on the truck race and the nationwide race this weekend as well. congrats to him meanwhile juan montoya took out jimmie johnson causing him to finish 35th in the race and is now 9th in the points. with the top 12 making it and jimmie sliding, im getting worried. hopefully he gets back on the schnide in atlanta on sept. 5. thats when the next race is
heck of a game at rogers centre - for a second day in a row pitcher brandon morrow of the toronto blue jays struck out 17 batters and took a no hitter to the last out of the 9th inning in a 1-0 win over the tampa bay rays. he ended up getting the last out to pitch a complete game one hitter. not long after the rays got one of their own a few days ago they almost got victimized. the rays were no hit twice as well.
heck of a game at rogers centre - even for a rookie this was quite a baseball game between the toronto blue jays and tampa bay rays. the jays won 17-11 in which they hit 8 home runs in the game - 2 by J.P Arencibia. the first one he hit was in his first at bat and the first pitch he faced. overall he had 4 hits (with the 2 homers). he was the first player since 1900 to hit 2 homers and four hits, the 5th player to hit two homers in his first game and 107th player to hit a homer in his first major league at bat. he had 3 runs batted in also. great game for sure
ahhh the lazy, hazy summer saturday i love it when i have my saturday off. with me working at westmount mall, its me and another worker that alternate saturdays. today im off and coworker works. next saturday i work and coworker is off. its a small crew atwestmount (its a small mall). its been good there. meanwhile today, the laundry is getting done and yesterday i got other things done (i was off yesterday too). a good two days.
im back nearly four weeks without internet. i think it ran from me. im not sure what happened, but i thing the first culprit was a thunderstorm messed with it. in between then and now, spain won the world cup, the national league won the all star game, lots of baseball and football. the nfl began training camps already. back to some fun now.
world cup semi final two spain defeated germany 1-0 to face the netherlands in the championship game on sunday. spain controlled the game with quick passing, ball control and very good defence. germany could not get anything going. germany faces uruguay for third place on saturday at 12:30 in port elizabeth. spain plays the netherlands on sunday at 12:30 in johannesburg
quarterfinal part one biiig. the netherlands just knocked out brazil 2-1 and will face uruguay or ghana in one semi final game. brazil had the first half, but the netherlands took control of the game when they tied it when melo of brazil headed the ball into his own net. they scored again and brazil lost their composure. anyways uruguay and ghana at 12:30. update: urugauy wins in penalty kicks 4-2 after ghana had the opportuniy to win it in extra time on the last play. a uruguay player stopped the ball with his hand causung ghana to get a penalty kick. that kick ended up off the crossbar. so uruguay plays the netherlands on tuesday.
happy canada day happy 143rd birthday to canada. canada day celebrations all over canada culminating in the fireworks show to cap it all off. even people decked out in anything red and white. even the cfl season started already with montreal and saskatchewan kicking it of with a pretty good shootout so far in a 33-33 tie game midway in the 4th quarter. toronto at calgary is at 8pm. cheers to canada.

round of 16 part four the final day of the round of sixteen began witha great game between paraguay and japan. this one went scorless right to the penalty kicks. paraguay won it 5-3. only japan missed when one oftheir players hit the crossbar. anyways paraguay will face either portugal or spain. that game is at 12:30. update: spain beat portugal 1-0 and will face paraguay on saturday
round of 16 part 3 the netherlands have knocked out slovakia with a 2-1 win. slovakia got their goal on a penalty kick which ended up the last play of the game while the netherlands got a goal in each half. the netherlands will play the winner of the brazil vs chile game. that game is at 12:30. update: brazil 3 chile 0. brazil vs netherlands on friday
round of 16 part 2 germany just knocked out england 4-1 and will go to the quarter finals and will face either argentina or mexico. turning point was a goal england had got disallowed after it hit the crossbar and came down over the line. after that germany took over. argentina and mexico is at 12:30. update: agrentina 3 mexico 1 argentina will face germany on saturday.
round of 16 part one uruguay just beat south korea 2-1 to advance to the quarter finals and will face either ghana or the united states. that game is at 12:30. update: ghana defeats the u.s. 2-1 in extra time. ghana got the winner early in the first half of extra time and hung on to it after the full half hour of extra time. ghana will now face uruguay in one quarter final game on july 2.
world cup day 15 the final day of group stage is half done. brazil and portugal played to a scoreless draw, this giving brazil top spot in group G with 7 points, while portugal finished second with 5 points. in the other group G game ivory coast defeated north korea 3-0 and finishes with 4 points while north korea finished with zero. brazil and portugal will face the top two from group H. the group H games are switzerland vs honduras and chile vs spain. group H games start at 12:30. update: spain beat chile 2-1 and will finish first in group H with chile second. both have 6 pts but spain has goal differential (+2 to +1). switzerland and honduras ended their game with a scoreless tie. switzerland finishes third eith 4 pts and honduras finished with one. spain will play portugal in the round of 16 on tuesday and chile will get brazil on monday.
world cup day 14 group F action produced the biggest shock as slovakia put the defending world cup champs out of it by beating italy 3-2. with paraguay tying new zealand 0-0, the final standing there has paraguay with 5 pts, slovakia with 4, new zealand with 3 and italy with 2. paraguay and slovakia are moving on and will face the top two of group E. so we will have new world cup champs. at 12:30 it is group E action with denmark playing japan and cameroon playing the netherlands. update: japan beat denmark 3-1 while the netherlands beat cameroon 2-1. netherlands win the group with 9 pts, japan with 6, denmark with 3 and cameroon with 0. the netherlands will play slovakia on monday in the round of 16 and paraguay plays japan on tuesday. the rest of the round of 16 wil be determined tomorrow
world cup day 13 group C wrap up. the u.s, in the las minute of the game scores the only goal of the game (one earlier disallowed) and advances with a 1-0 win over algeria. also england defeated slovenia 1-0 to advance to the round of 16. the u.s. and england with 5 pts, slovenia with 4 and algeria with 1. the u.s. gets the group with most goals scored (u.s and england both hada +1 goal differential. u.s had 4 goals and england had 2). group D action is at 12:30. update: group D action had australia beat serbia 2-1 and germany beat ghana 1-0. germany finishes first with 6 pts. ghana and australia finish with 4 pts and serbia finished with 3. ghana finishes second over australia based on on goal differential (ghana's 0 to australia's -3). after this germany plays england in the round of 16 on sunday while ghana plays the united states on saturday.
world cup day 12 the beginning of the last group games began this morning. uruguay defeated mexico 1-0 while south africa defeated france 2-1. uruguay finishes on top of group A with 7 pts, mexico and south africa finishes with 4 and france gets one. mexico will finish second over south africa based on goal differencial (mexico +1 vs south africa -2). so uruguay and mexico move to the round of 16 and will play the top 2 from group B. group B games are: greece vs argentina and nigeria vs south korea. both games at 12:30. update: argentina 2 greece 0 while nigeria and south korea was even at two. argentina finishes group B at 9 pts, south korea at 4, greece at 3 and nigeria at 1. argentina and south korea moves on to round of 16. argenina will face mexico on the 27th and uruguay will face south korea on the 26th. thats it for today

world cup day nine in group D ghana earned a 1-1 tie with australia. combined with serbia beating germany yesterday, ghana leads with 4 pts, germany and serbia has 3 pts each and australia has one. in group E, the netherlands beat japan 1-0 and leads the group with 6 pts. japan has 3 pts. meanwhile denmark beat cameroon 2-1 and has 3 pts while cameroon has none. there she be for day nine.
world cup day 8 huge upset. serbia defeats germany 1-0. serbia's first ever world cup win while germany suffers it's first group loss since 1986 (other losses in playoffs). german player got a red card half hour into the game and a couple minutes later serbia scores. next up usa vs slovenia. update: slovenia 2 usa 2. slovenia got their goals in the first half and looked good to win. the u.s. made a couple players changes and it worked. a goal early in the second half and a goal later got them even. next up england vs algeria at 12:30. update 2: algeria 0 england 0. another lackluster game from england. algeria played well defensively
los angeles lakers nba champions the lakers have won their 16th championship with an 83-79 win over the celtics in game 7. a hard fought win tonight. theyre thie first team to win back to back since they won 3 in 2000, 2001 and 2002. kobe bryant won the bill russel trophy as playoff mvp. like the nhl, see ya in october.

end of january man, where did january go? just doesnt seem like that long ago we rang in 2010 and already its the end of the month. there was lots of nfl playoff football, the world junior hockey championships won by the u.s. loads of nhl hockey, i picked up season 20 of the simpsons and the redd green show the infantile years. february brings the super bowl, the vancouver winter olympics, and the beginning of the nascar season with speedweeks in daytona and the daytona 500. already a busy february lined up.
hockey day in canada today was the annual hockey day in canada marathon with 13.5 hours of hockey coverage from stratford ontario. stories from there and three games with ottawa beating montreal 3-2 in overtime at noon, vancouver beating toronto 5-3 in the early evening game and clagary beating edmonton 6-1 that just finished. lots of hockey today.
divisional playoff weekend two blowouts, a semi blowout and a tight one this weekend. the blowouts both happened in the nfc with minnesota winning 34-3 over dallas today and new orleans winning 45-14 over arizona yesterday. the semi blowout was indianapolis beating baltimore 20-3, although baltimore didnt help themselves with turnovers and penalties at key time. the tight one was today with the new york jets beating the san diego chargers 17-14 - the surprise of the weekend. so the championship games are the n.y. jets at indianapolis in the afc and the minnesota vikings at the new orleans saints in the nfc. super bowl 44 is on the doorstep
wild card sunday the morning after it was sure a wild one. and it featured the arizona cardinals winning a thriller over green bay in overtime 51-45. arizona was up at one point 31-10 before green bay came back to tie it. arizona missed a field goal to win it at the end of the 4th quarter but the ball missed the goal posts. arizona wins it after aaron rodgers trie to pass the ball and he got hit by an arizona defender, the ball gets popped up and another defender grabs the bal out of the air and ran it into the end zone. arizona now goes to new orleans to play the saints in the divisional while dallas plays minnesota - both in the NFC. in the AFC, baltimore beat new england 33-14, handing new ingland its first home loss of the year and first playoff home loss since 1978. baltimore will play indianapolis while the n.y. jets goes to san diego in the AFC divisional. getting interesting i say.
NFL wild card saturday the dallas cowboys just beat the philadelphia eagles (for the third time this season) 34-14 and will go to minnesota to play the vikings on the 17th. earlier the new york jets beat the cincinnati bengals 24-14 and will face either the indianapolis colts or the san diego chargers, pending on the game between the ravens and patriots tomorrow. also tomorrow its the packers and cardinals to round out the wild card weekend.
