1942-43 NHL season
The 1942-43 season had 6 teams and had a 50 game season. USA and Canada governments wanted sports to keep going as WWII raged on. WWII ravaged all teams. November 21, 1942 overtime was ended due to wartime travel restrictions as teams needed to get to trains on time. February 4, 1943 Frank Calder dies of a heart attack. Red Dutton becomes president. Playoffs format has 1st place vs 3rd place and 2nd vs 4th and semi final winners play for Stanley Cup. Semis had Detroit beat Toronto 4-2 and Boston beat Montreal 4-1. Stanley Cup finals had Detroit beat Boston 4-0. It's their third cup victory.
