end of the month

shit, where did February go?  what happened?  Patriots win snooze fest of a Super Bowl, spring training baseball has started, as did the NASCAR season.  Chelsea Carey wins Scotties tournament of Hears and will represent Canada at the world curling championships, loads of hockey, and still cold out (figures for Canada.  even though -14 today isn't that bad really.).  awesome to see my sister after 20+ years, as well as dad and step mom.  March brings the Brier starting tomorrow, more hockey, more car racing, more exhibition baseball and what ever else.

Alberta steals their way to championship.

the team of Chelsea Carey, Sarah Wilkes, Dana Ferguson and Rachelle Brown capped of the biggest comeback to win 8-6 in an extra end.  Alberta was trailing 5-1 after 4 ends.  Alberta got a point in the 5th, stole a point in the 6th and 7th, gave up a point in the 8th, got that point back in the 9th, stole one in the 10th to tie it and stole 2 in the 11th after Rachel Homan was light on her last shot.  yikes.  they will represent Canada at the world women's championships in Silkeborg Denmark from March 16-24.

the roar of the rings

the Canadian Olympic curling trials - or the roar of the rings - will be in Saskatoon in 2021.  that announcement was mad about roughly 15 to 20 minutes ago.  countdown to the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing is on.

Jennifer Jones sets Scotties record

in her final game of the Scotties this year,  Jennifer Jones of Manitoba (although playing in Canada colours) set an all time Scotties record with her 141st win, passing Colleen Jones (don't know if they are related) for the record.  wow.

the hosts of the 2020 and 2021 Grey cups are.....

Saskatchewan and Hamilton.  both places were chosen an hour ago.  Mosaic Stadium in Regina in 2020 and Tim Hortons field in Hamilton in 2021.  Saskatchewan last hosted in 2012 while Hamilton last hosted in 1996.  so there ya go.

High scoring affair.

PEI and New Brunswick set a Scotties record for most points in a game as PEI wins 13-12.  Yikes.  Insane.  All these updates I am getting from Devin Heroux on Twitter. (Give him a follow. You won't regret it).

Another Scotties surprise.

Canada's Jennifer Jones lost both of her games at the Scotties today.  First from Prince Edward Island and then to New Brunswick.  She is at 2 wins and 2 losses.  Wow.

A first at the Scotties.

First full day of the Scotties women's curling tournament and it's produced a first.  Nunavut wins its first Scotties game ever with a 4-3 win over Quebec. Congrats to Megan Ingram, Allison Griffin,  Jennifer Blaney, Jenine Boder, and coach Susanne Martin - the first of hopefully many wins.

Hockey day in Canada

It's hockey day in Canada. This year Swift Current is host city. Feature games has Winnipeg at Ottawa  (on now), Toronto at Montreal at 6pm, San Jose at Edmonton also at 6pm,  and Calgary at Vancouver at 9pm. (All times Prince Albert times).  Results later. Update 1.  Ottawa 5 Winnipeg 2 Update 2.  Toronto 4 Montreal 3 (OT) San Jose 5 Edmonton 2. Update 3.  Vancouver 4 Calgary 3 (SO). That is it for another hockey day in Canada.

On this day....

In 1976 Darryl Sittler scored 6 goals and had 4 assists as Toronto beat Boston 11-4.  The 10 points still stands as an NHL record. The 6 goals tied Red Berenson for the modern day record.  Joe Malone has the all time record with 7.

Patriots win Super bowl.

The New England Patriots are Super bowl Champs after beating the L.A. Rams 13-3 in the lowest scoring super bowl since super bowl VII when Miami beat Washington 14-7.  Pretty dull game as well.  That's it for another NFL season. Nascar starts in a couple of weeks.
