The Boston Bruins are into round two after winning game 7 7-4 and will face Tampa Bay.  That will be a good series.  Round 2 starts Friday.

The Washington Capitals are into The second round after beating Columbus 6-3 in game six and The series 4-2.  They will face The Pittsburgh Penguins for The third year in a row.  Series starts later in The week.

The Nashville Predators will face The Winnipeg Jets in The second round after eliminating The Colorado Avalanche in six games.  That has a makings of a doozy of a series.  Dates TBA.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are into The second round after beating Philadelphia 8-5 in game 6 and The series 4-2.  Pittsburgh will get either Washington or Columbus.  Stay tuned.

Sean Manaea of the Oakland A's in A 3-0 win over Boston.  Manaea walked two and struck out 10.

The Tampa Bay Lightning are into The second round after eliminating The New Jersey Devils in five games. They will get either Toronto or Boston.

The Winnipeg Jets are into the second round after beating the Minnesota Wild 5-0 in game 5 and the series 4-1.  They will get either Nashville or Colorado.

The San Jose Sharks will face The Vegas Golden Knights in The second round after sweeping away The Anaheim Ducks.  That should be a good series.

First season, First post season, First series win.  The Vegas Golden Knights are into The second round after finishing a four game sweep of The L.A. Kings.  Wow. Making me a bigger fan.  They will get either San Jose or Anaheim.

the commonwealth games are done.  the closing ceremonies are done and out.  speeches made, handover handed over, performances made.  these games: 1. set a record for number of medal winning countries and territories.  2.   five countries win medals for first time ever 3. the first time a hand over took place over two continents at the same time.  4.  the David Dixon award handed out to David Liti of New Zealand after the medal ceremonies of the weightlifting 105kg+ where he offered to help a Samoan rival who was left in a wheelchair after injuring himself.  Canada finished 3rd overall (4th in terms of gold) with 15g, 40s, 27b for 82 medals.  Australia was first with 80g, 59s and 59b for 198.  England was second with 45g, 45s and 46b for 136.  India (4th overall, third in terms of gold) had 26g, 20s and 20b for 66.  that is it for this year.  Birmingham, England will be hosting these games in 2022.  until then, g'day mate!

The mens basketball team has a silver medal, losing to Australia.  That is now 15g, 40s and 27b for 82 medals.

Vincent Riendeau has the bronze in the 10m platform event.  That is now 15g, 39s and 27b for 81 medals.  Yesss.

Erica Weibe has been chosen to carry the Canadian Flagbearer at the closing ceremonies.

First  silver went to Korey Jarvis in the freestyle 125kg class.  Second silver went to Michelle Fazzari in the freestyle 62kg nordic event.  Our golden diver is Jennifer Abel in the 3m springboard. Wow.  That is now 15g, 39s and 26b for 80 medals.  Yesss.

Jessica MacDonald with the Silver,  this one in freeatyle 50kg nordic wrestling.  Yeah.  That is now 14g, 37s and 26b for 77 medals.  Yesss.

Thomas Blumenfield takes silver in the 64kg weight class.  That is now 14g, 36s and 26b for 76 medals.  Yesss.

Grzegorz Sych has the silver, winning it in the 50m 3 position shooting. (The 3 position is new to me).  That is now 14g, 35s and 26b for 75 medals.  Yesss.

Star with a silver. Mohammed Ahmed in the 10000m in track. 2. Alysha Newman in the pole vault. 3. Harley-David O'Reilly in boxing -81kg class. And 4. Phillipe Gagne and Francois Imbeau-Dulac with a silver in 3m synchro diving.  That is now 14g, 34s and 26b for 74 medals. Yesss.

3 bronze and a silver.  First bronze goes to Tammara Thibeault in boxing - the 75kg weight class.  Second bronze goes to Eric Dasran in boxing - 56kg weight class.  The silver goes to Nina Schultz in the heptathlon.  Last bronze goes to Brittany Crew in the shot put.  That is now 13g, 32s and 25b for 70 medals.   Yesss.

Sabrina Aubin-Boucher has the bronze in the 57kg weight class.  Yeah.  That is now 13g, 31s and 22b for 66 medals.  Yesss.

And not the 5 or 10 pin.  Ryan Bester has the silver in singles lawn bowling.  That is now 13g,  31s and 21b for 65 medals.  Yesss.

The bronze goes to Jordan Steen in the 97kg weight class.   That is now 13g, 30s and 21b for 64 total. Yesss.

First the bronze.   Goes to Emily Schaefer ib the 57kg weight class.  Danielle Lappage has the silver in the 68kg weight class.  That is now 13g, 30s and 20b for 63 medals.  Yesss.

Sophie Crane had herself a gold as she won the club portion of rhythmic gymnastics.  Woohoo.  That is now 13g, 29s and 19b for 61 medals.  Yesss.

Meaghan Benfeito has a silver in the 10m platform.  Woo.  That is now 12g,  29s and 19b  for 60 total.   Yesss.

Aaron Brown has the bronze, this one in the 200m. Yeah.  That is now 12g,  27s and 20b for 59 total.  Yesss. UPDATE: Aaron Brown has been upgraded to silver.   That would be 12g, 28s and 19b.  Total is stll 59.

Two silvers and Two gold.  First silver went to Phillipe Gagne in the 3m springboard diving.   First gold went to Cristabel Netty in the womens long jump.  Second gold went to Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Parades in beach volleyball. And last silver  went to Shawn Barber in pole vault.  That is now 12g, 27s And 19b for 58 medals.  Yesss.

Would you believe SIX  in the last couple of hours.  Here is what happened:  1.  A gold from Diana Weicker in wrestling 53kg.  2.  A silver for Sam Pedlow and Sam Schachter in  beach volleyball.  3. A silver for Katherine Uchida in rhythmic gymnastics all around.  4. A silver for Steven Takahashi in wrestling 57kg.  5. A gold for Erica Weibe in wrestling 76kg.  And 6. A bronze for Jevon Balfour in wrestling 74kg.   Wow.  That is now 10g, 25s and 19b for 54 medals.  YESSS.

Haley Smith has A bronze on the mountain bike. Woo.  That is now 8g, 22s and 18b for 48 medals.  Yesss.

Two bronze and A silver so far.  First bronze came in the ring as Marie-Jeanne Parent won it in the 69kg weight class in boxing.  Django Lovett won the other bronze in the mens high jump.  The silver came in diving as Meaghan Benefeito  and Caeli McKay won it in 10m synchro diving.   That is now 8g, 22s and 17b for 47 medals.  Yesss.

One in athletics and the other in the pool.  Pierce Lepage wins silver in mens decathlon and the women won silver in the 4x100m medley.  Dont know if Taylor Ruck won her 8th medal yet.  That  is now 8g, 21s and 15b for 44 medals. Update:  Taylor Ruck did win her 8th medal in the relay.  That is a Canadian record.

Our parathletes are having a day.  Morgan Bird won silver and Abigail Tripp won bronze in the S7 50m freestyle swim.  Wow.  That is now 8g, 19s and 15b for 42 medals.   Yesss.

Alex Dupont has himself a gold.   He won the T54 1500m event.  That is now 8g, 18s and 14b for 40 medals.   Yesss.

Diane Roy has herself a bronze in the T54 1500m event.  Her first medal of the games.  That is now 7g, 18s and 14b for 39 medals.   Yesss.

Kylie Masse has another medal - this one a Silver.   She wins it in the 50m backstroke.  That is now 7g, 18s and 13b for 38 medal.   Yesss.

Two bronze and a silvers.   The silvers went to Kierra Smith in The 100m breaststroke.  The first bronze went to Tim Nedow in the shot put.  The recent bronze went to Taylor Ruck in the 100m freestyle.  Ruck now has 7 medals, tying a Canadian record for most medals in one Commonwealth games.   I will bet she carries the flag atthe closing ceremonies.  Canada now had 7g, 17s and 13b for 37 medals.  Yessss.

A silver and A bronze.   The silver goes to Cory Paterson in thr high bar.  He actually tied in the event.  The bronze went to Shallon Olsen in the floor routine.   That is now 7g, 16s and 11b for 34 medals.  Yesss.

The regular season is done and the postseason is set.  The matchups are:  Washington vs Columbus, Pittsburgh Vs Philadelphia, Tampa Bay vs New Jersey, Boston vs Toronto, Nashville vs Colorado, Minnesota vs Winnipeg, Vegas vs L.A., and Anaheim vs San Jose.  Let The battle for The Stanley Cup begin.  Playoffs begin Wednesday.

Two more in the pool.  Both in the womens 200m individual medley.  Sarah Darcell got the silver and Erica Seltenreich Hodgson with the bronze.  That is now 7g, 15s and 10b for 32 medals.  Yesss.

Yep another one.  This one in weightlifting.  Marie-Eve Beauchemin-Nadeau has it in the 75kg weightlifting class.  That is now 7g 14s and 9b for 30 medals.  And it is onlu day 4.

Philippe Vachon has a bronze in the SM8 200m individual medley.  Yay.  That is now 7g 13s and 9b for 29 medals.  Yessss.

Both in the 200m backstroke.  Kylie Masse won gold and Taylor Ruck won silver.  Ruck has 6 medals at these games.  Yikes.  That is now 7g, 13s and 8b for 28 medals.  Yessss.

The first silvers goes to Mohammed Ahmed in tge 5000m on the track.  The second silvers goes to Brittany Rogers on the uneven bars.  The bronze goes to Scott Morgan on the rings.  Also his second medal of the day.  That is now 6g, 12s and 8b for 26 medals.

Boady Santavy has a silver in the 94kg class in weightlifting.  Wow.  That is now 6g 10s and 7b for 23 medals.  Yes.  They just keep coming.

Two in one event and one in another.  Shallon Olsen won gold and Ellie Black won silver on the vault, while Zach Clay won bronze on the pommel horse.  That is now 6g 9s and 7b for 22 medals.  Yes.

Scott Morgan has a Silver,  winning it in artistic gymnastics. That is now 5g, 8s and 6 b for 19 medals.  Yes.

Two more silvers in the pool.  First one went to Aurelie Rivard in the 200m Individual medley.  The second one went to the womens 4x200m freestyle relay team.  Taylor Ruck, Kayla Sanchez, Rebecca Smith and Penny Oleksiak swam the relay.  Ruck has 5 medals. That is 5g 7s and 6b for 18 medals.

A gold and bronze in the 100m backstroke.  Kylie Masse won the gold and Taylor Ruck won the bronze.  That is Ruck's 4th medal.   That is now 5g, 5s and 6b for 16 medals. Yes.

Taylor Ruck just picked up a Silver,  This time in the 50m freestyle in swimming.  I think That is her third medal. That is now 4g, 5s and 5b for 14 medals.

Ellie Black is a two time gold medalist after winning the individual all-around event in gymnastics.  This gold goes with her team gold the other day.  That is now 4g 4s and 5b for 13 medals.  Yes.

Maude Charron just won gold in weightlifting 63kg class. Thst is now 3g 4s and 5b for 12 medals.   Yes.

a gold, a silver and a bronze overnight.  the gold in artistic gymnastics.  the team of Ellie Black, Isabela Onyshko, Jade Chrobok, Shallon Olsen and Brittany Rogers claimed gold.  the silver went Tali Darsigny in weightlifting, 58kg class. and the bronze was in the mens 100m backstroke.  Markus Thormeyer won it. that is 2g, 4s and 5b for 11 medals.  great.

Rachael Leblanc-Bazinet picked up a Weightlifting bronze, this one in the 53kg class.  That is 1g, 3s and 4b for 8 medals.  Yes.

A silver in the pool.  Alexia Zevnik, Kayla Sancgez, Penny Oleksoak and Taylor Ruck wom silver in the 4x100m freestyle relay.   That is 1g, 3s and 3b for 7 medals. Great opening day.

4 more medals in just over an hour - a gold, a silver And two bronze.  Taylor Ruck picked up the gold in the 200m freestyle swim.  Sarah Mehain won the silver, also in the pool, in the S7 50m butterfly.  The team of Allison Beveridge, Arianne Bonhomme, Annie Foreman-Mackey, Kenley Gibson And Steph Rooda won the first bronze in the 4000m womens team pursuit.  The men won bronze in their 4000m team pursuit.  Missed who was cycling though.  That is 1g, 2s and 3b fol 6 medals.  Wow.

The team of Jackson Payne, Scott Morgan, Cory Paterson, Zach Clay and Rene Cournoyer won Silver in artistic gymnastic team event.  Yes.  That is 1s and 1b for 2 medals.  Good start so far.

First medal of the Commonwealth games goes to Joanna Brown who won a bronze in the triathlon.  More to come soon.

the games are officially on.  the opening ceremonies were pretty cool.  Canada came in 32nd in the parade of nations.   they do the parade of nations different.  start with the previous host (Scotland)  followed by their region (Europe).  the Oceania region came last, with host Australia being last.  competition begins tonight.  going to be a good 11 days.  stay tuned, there will be a boat load of medals.  here is the logo for these games.

By this time tomorrow, the Commonwealth Games will have kicked off with the opening ceremonies.   Meaghan Benfeito will lead 282 Canadians into the stadium during the ceremonies.  The Games will be held on the Gold Coast on Queensland, Australia.   Gonna be loads of medals won.  Stay tuned for that.

Villanova just beat Michigan 79-62 to win this years national championship.  This tournamemt had a cinderella run (Loyola-Chicago got to the final four) and a few upsets, which includes the first 16 seed to beat a 1 seed (UMBC beating Virginia).  Since 1985, the first year of this format, the one seed is 135 wins and one loss after this year.  Congrats to Villanova - NCAA champions.
